They’re what I like to call “brain cheese.”
Ya know, brainless B-movies that border on unwatchable, but you end up watching them anyway because you’re not in the mood to think.
I had some brain cheese the other night in the form of SyFy’s Rise: Blood Walker (starring Lucy Liu!). It’s the usual “You turned me into a [INSERT PRETERNATURAL CREATURE HERE], and now I want my revenge!” flick.
Like a Lifetime movie…except with vampires.
Anywho, during one of the commercial breaks, I saw a promo for the new season of Face Off, SyFy’s special effects makeup reality show.
I didn’t watch the show last season, but I heard it was good. If you saw it, what did you think? Is it worth using my telekinesis, like in Chronicle, which I saw last night (OMG!), to program the DVR with my mind??
Oh, yes, CHRONICLE! Brain cheese need not apply, not unless we’re talking about Caciocavallo Podolico, which’ll set you back about $650/pound. I thought it was smart, thought provoking, thrilling, different and really well filmed (LOVE the flying scenes). One of my favorite sci-fi movies in years.
It’s a superhero/villain origin story of sorts about three high school friends who, through mysterious means, acquire the ability to manipulate objects in their environment with their minds. Telekinesis.
Okay, now, maybe from that description…it doesn’t sound very smart or different, but that’s just the dressing. What happens before and after that is the yummy salad.
I was worried about the cinematography before going in because I’d read that it was filmed in a style called “found footage,” like The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, where the characters are supposedly filming themselves with home video cameras, but while the camerawork in those two movies seemed a little gimmicky and clumsy to me, I thought it blended beautifully into the story in Chronicle.

I loved your post about the China Glaze/Hunger Games collection, but I am a little confused. To me, the ‘colors of the capital’ should be a lot brighter and flamboyant. Don’t get me wrong, I love the neutrals – but the collection seems misnamed.
I don’t wear a lot of makeup to the movies, maybe just concealer, mascara, bronzer and lipgloss.

I have indeed auditioned for a play (just a few weeks ago) and I got a part! The theatre I work with is doing a 1950’s play, The Tender Trap, so I’ve been hard at work finding vintage costumes and researching 50’s hair and makeup. Must master the red lip/winged eyeliner look!

I auditioned for a musical once..and made callbacks! But I was so nervous I botched it. I did end up getting understudy for the lead 🙂 Unfortunately, the musical was cancelled. It was a great experience, regardless!

I wear makeup to the movies unless I know it is one where I will be crying the entire time! (like extremely loud & incredibly close)…. just saw that and cried throughout the whole movie! However, the exception is definitely when I am on a date at the movies… makeup is necessary in that case!

Ohmigosh Face Off is so addictive! Seriously… I make any of my friends who are even mildly interested in makeup to watch it (especially my guy friends), and I’ve now gone through the whole series three times, not to mention random episodes with people on top of that. When I was around 10 years old, I auditioned for and got the part of Mother Goose in a silly play. I think I had about 2 lines in the play, but it was fun wearing the outfit!
I’ve never auditioned for a play, but I used to do a lot of backstage work. At several points, I had to help run auditions. It was an interesting if sometimes maddening process 🙂

I always wear powder, lip stain, hace curled lashes, and groomed brows if I am going to be leaving the house. Except when I go to volunteer at the animal shelter. If I am cleaning cages, it is the only time that I can leave the house without minimal make up.
I know it sounds silly but I had acne as a teenager and rosacea as an adult, so I am pretty self conscious about my face. The curled lashes and groomed brows make SUCH a huge difference and do not take long to do.

As “E” from Pixar’s Incredibles said, capes are disastrous with superheros. They get caught in wind turbines, jet engines, missiles, etc. Non functional and probably more of a hazard than anything!

We had a snow storm two weeks ago and our power was out for five days. On the second day we went out to eat and I used the ladies room to wash my hands. I came out of the bathroom exclaiming to my husband “They have hot water!” My husband replied “you go girl, use that hot water!”

In high school I auditioned for the West Side Story play and got a part. It was a very fun experience.
Man, I was torn last night from having to choose between Chronicle and The Woman in Black. My fiance and I went ahead with the thriller. I was quite impressed with Daniel Radcliffe’s performance. There were a lot of scary jump in your seat moments. Let’s just say my man is too cocky enough to admit he got scared. Hahahaha As for make up at the movies, regardless if no one sees my blending skills, I gotta make sure my face looks nice and pretty. ;~)

I do wear makeup to the movies, if I’m going with the bf! Not a requirement but I just like to put in the effort whenever we go out, no matter where we go 🙂 also its fun to see him try to figure out why I look different that day, whether it’s a different eyeshadow combo or a touch of bronzer.

You know I never really thought about not wearing makeup to the movies; I guess because I always either go to the store or dinner before or after the movie. But since you mentioned it if the destination is only the theater and then home it really doesnt make sense to put on a full face of makeup since you will be in the dark. My husband and I are going to see the Woman In Black tomorrow and yes I probably will be wearing makeup! lol
If I had a superpower it would be the ability to be invisible and no, I wouldn’t tell anyone. 🙂

I used to be more carefree with going out without make-up but now that I’m older and have started my career I try to look my best when I leave the house. You just never know who you will run into!
I wear makeup everytime I’m going out, to work, or to the movies! 🙂
I always wear at least a little makeup whenever I go out, and that includes going to the movies.
I usually wear make up to the movie theatre. It’s usually a date with my husband and I love to look special for him. 🙂
In addition, I really love your blog. Especially the pictures you take of the products you use. My skin tone is similar to your’s so I can see of certain colors will work for me 🙂

Capes on superhero costumes aren’t really “tacky,” they’re just…a terrible idea. Useless, trite, and hazardous.

My boyfriend and I are planning to get engaged soon- and he brought me ring window shopping the other day to gauge the prices of rings. I fell in love with a Tiffany & Co ring, which cost about US$ 300+, but I’m still considering it because I believe in an expensive wedding ring and not an expensive engagement ring haha 😛 I definitely have my eyes on the Tiffany platinum rings though!

I’m trying to convince my parents to let me keep an alpaca at their farm. Mom says no and that we’ll just have to go to the winery near them that has a pack of alpacas.

Real Steel was a pretty good sci-fi that I saw recently – yes, it’s robot boxing, but it was more of an endearing father-son story at it’s core.
Plus, Hugh Jackman is ALL kinds of hot!!
one of my favorite sci-fi novels from when I was younger was Ender’s Game, and I loved the book. not sure I loved the character (Ender) as he ended up being a villain of sorts. I do want to watch Chronicle! I remember being really intrigued with the cf.
