Yesterday, I was digging through some old CDs at home when I came across an oldie but a goodie. Remember Version 2.0 by Garbage?
I remember buying it on a whim one day right after it came out. It must have been around 1998. I was in my last quarter in college, and I’d listen to it every day while I did my homework.
Brings back memories… That was a very exciting time filled with promise, but also some nervous uncertainty. I was almost finished with school and itching to move back to the Bay Area from Davis, but I was getting ready to leave something familiar (school) to enter the next phase of my life — or what my parents referred to as “the real world.”
The last time I listened to this CD was probably 10 years ago, and man! — it’s still great. Yesterday when Temptation Waits and Push It kicked in, I couldn’t believe I still remembered all of the words.
Did anyone else secretly want to be Shirley Manson? She seems like such an @ss kicker. An @ss kicker in red lipstick and smokey eyes!

Favorite red lipstick of all time is a tie between MAC Red and Russian Red, depending on the situation. I lean towards preferring Russian Red, but it just can’t be adapted for casual daytime as well as MAC Red can.
And yes, I’ve had red hair. And copper. And black. And espresso. And chocolate. And bright golden blonde. And dishwater blonde. And auburn. And… yeah.
I just discovered MAC red & it’s perfect for my porcelain complexion. The red of the spring for me.

The last time I did a bold Red lip and Smokey eye was for Halloween. I was a rocker in all red and black :3. I looked silly but that was the point since I was going out to Par-tay :D. The only time I had red hair was when I was in high school and I used Sun-In in my hair. I thought that it would turn it blond. Turns out, I have a lot of red undertones in my hair. It wasn’t exactly red, but it wasn’t blond either!!

I have done a smoky eye with a bold red lip! Not often but I love a soft navy smoky eye with a matte brick-red lip (NARS Shanghai Express). If you keep the lip nice and soft with no hard edges and really blend out the eye, it can work.

Well the other day I was in my friend’s car and shake that by Eminem and Nate Dogg came on. Well it reminded us of prom, I know classy right. That was six years ago. I can’t believe how fast time flies.

I tried to get red hair in middle school, but my natural color is so dark that it came out sort of purple. Oops.
I’ve had red highlights and loved them but they faded so fast! Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I haven’t been brave enough to wear a red bold lip. Hopefully I’ll muster up the courage and confidence to do it one day. I do have NYX’s Snow White as my lip color when I’m ready to do so 🙂

I’ve been testing out some setting powders, including ones from Becca, Dior and Burberry and I just love their packaging. They look so luxuriously. I can’t stop looking at them.

Yup, I had bright stop-sign red hair…for one day. Then I went back to the salon that did it and asked them to dye it all jet black. 😛 The really bright red totally didn’t suit me.

I bought Version 2.0 in 2003. I idolized Shirley when I was in high school, and I loved her makeup. She didn’t give a fig what other people thought. She wore what she wanted to wear.
The only time I’ve had red hair was when I tried giving myself a dye job with a Lush henna bar. It turned out subtle and nice (red highlights when my hair caught the light) but I was scrubbing henna out of my bathroom grout for weeks afterward!

I’ve dyed my hair red a few different times. I love how it looks on me but I hate having to touch it up every month. So for now I’m happy rockin my natural dark brown hair. I also love red lips. I like reds that have a bit of pink/berry in it.
I’ve never had truly red hair. I have black hair and I’d probably have to bleach it first for the red to take, and that’s a little too scary for me. The closest I’ve come was using a dark auburn dye on my hair. My hair pretty much stayed black but in direct sunlight it gave my hair some subtle reddish highlights that didn’t look too unnatural.
I’ve never really had a desire to dye my hair.
My new fav lip color is my YSL glossy stain in #7! I tend to stick to certain colors, like a rosy, sometimes light berry-ish color (think Nars Dolce Vita, which I LOVE 6_^), but decided to stick it out and try a coral-ly color cuz it was so pretty. And I couldn’t resist it. And I love it! =D I am a braver person now. ^_^
If I ever was to dye my hair, I’d go redder, but luckily I’m fortunate to have strawberry blonde hair with brighter red natural streaks at my hairline! I call them my “Rogue Stripes” (like X-men’s Rogue lol) and they always lead people to ask where I get my hair colored 🙂

I’m a natural redhead (more strawberry blondeish), but I have been dying my hair all various colors of red since I was 13. However, just recently did I “break” the “myth” for myself that redheads can’t wear red lipstick. You just have to find the right one! After years of trying red lips and them not quite looking “right,” I finally found Laura Mercier’s Mistress. LOVE it, and it’s the red they use on Joan Holloway in Mad Men, so that’s an added perk! 🙂

I usually prefer lip stains or just simple lip balm… But when I am in the mood for a red lipstick, I go for MAC Russian Red. And I have no problem pairing it with dramatic eyes :] I’m never one for a smokey eye but I do like to do a more dramatic pin-up look, with a really heavy wing.

I’ve never had red hair, but I want to! Karen Gillan from Doctor Who has the most GORGEOUS red hair (well, and gorgeous everything else too). She and Christina Hendricks really make me wish I was a redhead!
I love rocking a red lip! My favorite shade is Box by Illamasqua, and it’s flattering on any skin tone. Just such a classic red.
The closest I came to dying my hair red was a rinse called Black Cherry. It only looked reddish in the sunlight. I’m too fickle about my hair to commit to permanent color lol

I’ve actually never worn a red lip out! I’ve done bold looks before, but I mainly focus on the eyes and haven’t done a bold lip in what feels like forever.
I tend to prefer smokey eyes OR red lips, not both — it just looks overwhelming on my features.

Hello, well maybe it’s sad…or not, but it’s a little late to start I think. I thought I’d share it with you tonight. I am turning 35 soon, mother of 2 beautiful children. All my life (well so far) wondering what I was made for?? To do as a living? Something that would passionate me, because this is the way I am, only can live thru passionating things and people, and I only understood and realized now, that I wanted to become a make up artist. I know already a lot, but don’t have the confidence to start something and say: “Hey, here is my card, I am gonna make you beautiful” even though I might have the skills, but perfectionist as I am, I know I want to go to school or something…I cannot even go to the gym;-)) My kids are my pride and joy but they take all my time and energy. And no, I have no aunty or grandma next to me to help. That’s it. i wish I could go back in time. Thanks for reading.
Virginie~ follow your dreams!!!! Even if it means looking for a part-time artist’s gig at Ulta or Sephora to get your feet wet. I have been in the industry for about 10 years (I’m turning 38 this year) and from the bottom of my heart I would say that you have the passion that people are looking for when they are interviewing. If you have a natural knack for makeup, many places like that are willing to train. Trust me…just because one graduates from beauty school doesnt mean that they are a great makeup artist!!! I’m asked all the time where I went to school but I’ve never gone to beauty school, I just always loved playing with makeup & someone took the time to help develope that talent. Please let me know I can help in any way…btw from one mom to another…HAVE AN AWESOME DAY TODAY! You sound like such a GREAT MOM!!! 😉

I did a smokey eye last year for a special event. (I had never done one before.) One of the MUAs at the temp MAC store helped identify the right colors and taught me how to apply.

Closest I’ve gotten to red hair was some red highlights in the past and that was fun. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a red lipstick – kind of scary for me. I remember my mom trying to find the perfect red lipstick for herself and she tried so many and never found it, but maybe she’s still looking. Maybe that’s what scares me, the never-ending search for the perfect red lipstick.
Christina Aguilera’s ‘Stripped’ is the album that reminds me of school- I listened to it so much that I wore out 2 copies of the CD (this was back before ipods :)) I am excited to give my mom her Mothers Day present tomorrow, I bought her the Joan Holloway and Betty Draper Barbies- not practical but super fun!

I have yet to find a red lipstick that flatters me. Bold lips seem to overpower my face.
My first and still fav red lipstick is covergirl hot. I do have a mac cruella deville red but it is harder for me to work with.

I *tried* to have slightly auburn hair last fall and it was kind of an epic failure/hair disaster. Luckily I had it professionally done and my stylist is so wonderful she didn’t stop “correcting” it until I was happy with my hair again. She told me the next time I ask for red she is going to take me out for a drink to calm me down from the crazy talk. lol

Whenever I listen to My Chemical Romance’s album “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” or Green Day’s album “American Idiot”, I always think of middle school. (Yes, that gives you an idea of my age…) It wasn’t the best time of my life, but those albums completely changed how I viewed music. Before, I would listen to pop, but after that, I became a sucker for alternative, rock, and metal.

OMG you brought back some great memories for me. I was home on leave from the Navy when I found out Garbage had a new album out (Garbage 2.0) and had to go get it THAT DAY! I had enjoyed the heck out of their first one and wanted more.
There really isn’t a specific album that brings back college for me, but some songs or groups sure do. Careless Whisper by Wham puts me right back to Freshman year. Ultravox, Roxy Music, the Eurythmics – all of them take me right back. 🙂
Random thoughts inspired by last week postings- 1) Tazo has really good chai tea, the packet ones. All their teas are great, but chai is my fave. 2) If u are obsessed with ur eyelashes then Mac prime+prep eyelash serum is a must. I have been using one since september, every day and just now starting to run out. So worth the $30, my lashes are longer, fuller and stronger. And I get lots of comments on them. 3) Love Nars Mexican Rose lipgloss pencil. I discovered it here………Happy mothers day to all!

I have been trying to do some research on BB creams. I usually use a tinted moisturizer rather than foundation since it works better with my dry skin. Would love to know some good brands that have SPF.Also, if a BB cream can replace a tinted moisturizer/foundation. Obviously it won’t have amazing coverage so a concealer will be needed.
I love bold red lips, but personally dont wear red lipstick. Red hair sounds so cool, but in my town every other teenage chick has red hair. Definitely don’t want to look like a teenager!
i love bright but only in the summer time. otherwise i use nudes or light peaches!

Zomg I love Garbage and Shirley!!! I only rocked smokey eyes and red lips at home..still working on the courage to walk outside with it yet! D: It’s funny you mention hair color … but I think back to high school and I always wanted to have blue hair! I always listen to heavy stuff like Rammstein, I was such a rebel then in high school! Oh I miss those days! Still kickin’ it in my college years now that I graduated officially from high school 6 years ago on the 19th! :/

I’m currently on a blue eyeliner kick! I’ve been liner my eyes (top and bottom) with Urban Decay’s Binge and pairing it with nude lip pretty much every day this last week – I love the pop of color.
a friend from japan uses versace’s pour homme so i went to macy’s to smell it and it made me melt… would def love to use the gift card to buy and wear the cologne!

I love red lipstick – red is my favorite color, and it just makes me feel good to put it on. MAC Viva Glam I is my go-to. I recently found out I have a lot of allergies and sensitivities that make it hard for me to wear eye makeup or foundation, but luckily my lips are spared, so I’ve been trying out a lot of bold lip colors – I also love Illamasqua Kontrol (extremely purple!) right now.
Music that reminds me of high school. Totally garbage and hole. I guess it was the whole girls rock thing. My friend and I told our parents that we were going to be staying at each others houses, but we were really going to a party and camp outside afterwards. We were listening to hole, when her car died. Lucky for us, a cop saw us stranded and then…. Unlucky for us, insisted on getting us home. So our parents found out we lied… And well…busted! 🙂

I love a bold, red lip. But I have to be careful because I have really pale skin and really dark thick eyebrows – so sometimes it can look a bit costumey/goth-y.
i know that the rule says to only do one bold feature at a time, but i’ve been told that it actually looks good on me when i do both.

I was in college in the mid 90’s too and used to wear Revlon Blackberry almost everyday! In ’98 I met a guy that hated the feel of anything on his lips so I stopped wearing lipstick for several years. By then gloss came back into style.
I dyed my hair burgundy back then and it was a little too ‘blue’ of a red for me. This New Year’s Eve I dyed my hair red again but a more medium natural looking red. So far, so good. I’m naturally a dark blonde and people have told me the red looks nice.
