Sonia Kashuk Fall 2012 Nail Colours from the left: Hocus Pocus, Emerald City, Two Cents, Dime a Dozen and All Vamped Up
Beep-beep-beep!
Did you hear that…? That beeping sound? Is a truck backing up outside my window? Did I suddenly get a page from 1997 (007734-411-007-911)?
Oh, I see what it is. It’s just the sweet, sweet sound of my Bargain Beauty Thrill-o-Meter sounding off. 🙂
Even before I swatched ’em, I had a feeling Sonia Kahuk’s five new $4.79 fall Nail Colours would rock my budget-loving boat.
With finishes from creamy to metallic and colors perfect for fall, these highly pigmented jewel-toned polishes look like the kinds of nail accoutrements I’m more accustomed to seeing on Dior and Chanel counters, and with price tags closer to $30 than $5.
Looking at metallic copper Two Cents and creamy eggplant All Vamped Up, fall seems just days away, and I can almost hear the leaves crunching beneath my feet as I stroll around my neighborhood looking at Halloween decorations…
Creamy purple Hocus Pocus and rich green Emerald City should look right at home on my paws as I hoist a cup of hot cocoa up to my lips (can’t forget the marshmallows!), while gunmental Dime a Dozen looks like a lovely shade to bring to Thanksgiving dinner with the fam.
In the swatches below, I’m wearing two coats of Emerald City, Two Cents and Dime a Dozen. I think I also could’ve gotten away with two coats of Hocus Pocus and All Vamped Up, but I decided to apply a third because I noticed the faintest bit of streaking from those two in direct sunlight.

Aside from some minor streaking from a couple of the shades, I have to agree with Tabs about these. They’re almost purrr-fect.
Smooth, with a wide, easy-to-use brush that covers a large swatch of the nail with every pass, a reasonably quick-drying formula (about 15 minutes for three layers sans a base or top coat), and an almost blinding high-shine finish?
Not bad at all. 🙂
And when worn with a base and top coat, I get between 7-10 days of chip-free color from these.
If you happen upon these sub-$5 shades at your nearby Target and feel inspired, consider snatching ’em up sooner than later. I have a feeling they’ll be going, going, gone quicker than you can say, “Trick or treat?!”
PRICE: $4.79 each

What are you reading?

Last night I started a new book called Angelfall, by Susan Ee.
I’d never heard of the author or the book before, but El Hub read an excerpt on Amazon.com while searching for zombie books (his current favorite niche) and thought I’d like it, so he downloaded it to my Kindle for me (thanks, babe!).
It’s a young adult book set in a post-apocalyptic Silicon Valley. Avenging angels have taken over the earth, having killed off most of civilization.
Three chapters in, and I’m liking it so far, but the similarities with The Hunger Games are striking! A strong female lead character who can fend for herself, a younger sister whom she loves and protects, and a mother who hasn’t always been there in the past.
Hopefully, the familiar recipe still leads somewhere interesting! So far it has.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love Hocus Pocus! Just bought a similar Sally Hansen color a couple days ago, but haven’t gotten time to paint my toenails yet… I love Emerald City too, green is one of my favorite colors.
Ooooh! I like the sounds of that book! Will download it!
These polishes look great! I really like Two Cents!
Be still, my beating heart! Emerald City and Dime a Dozen look absolutely gorgeous swatched — and less than $5 for over-a-week wear? I’m impressed!
Love Emerald City!
Loving 2 Cents and Dime A Dozen (I am mostly attracted to very shiny or bright colors). I am reading a lot of different things right now. I tend to read multiple books at once. I am reading the latest Anita Blake Vampire Hunter book (for all of the Sookie Stackhouse fans Anita was there before Sookie and the books are a great and interesting read if you like Sookie). I am also reading various running books and I just got this new book by beauty editor Andrea Pomerantz Lustig that was mentioned in the latest Glamour magazine.
Dime a Dozen is like the nail polish version of Moth Brown — want!!!!
Im currently re-reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I had a copy long ago, but lost it. I randomly found a copy for less than 15 bucks at Target – and I had to have it.
Id forgotten how much I love this book. 🙂
Being the shimmer fanatic that I am, Two Cents and Dime a Dozen are really calling to me!
Currently I’m re-reading a book called What is Normal? It’s author is an acquaintance of mine and I think she did a fabulous job telling this sometimes difficult but ultimately inspiring story:

I love Two Cents. It looks more flattering than Revlon Copper Penny.
Oh geez. I love all of them. I wish my target is closer!!
I agree with Katherine G. Just like her, I also like to read multiple books at once:-)
Dime a Dozen looks fabulous! I wonder if it’s close to the newly released chaos from Estee Lauder?
Loving Dime a Dozen and Two Cents. There’s a possibility I’ll get to go to the US for work next month. So going to check out Target and haul some of these. *Fingers crossed*
Emerald City and Dime a Dozen are SO gorgeous! I think the jellyish finish makes these dark dark shades really wearable, and the metallic ones are just wow!
Emerald City looks gorgeous!
These look beautiful! The solid shades look like jelly finishes. Do I detect a hint of purple in Dime a Dozen? I don’t think I own anything like it.
That Two Cents goes perfectly with my CLE Brown’s gear. Can ya tell I’m ready for fall to be here?
I’m really surprised by how rich the colors look. Very nice!
Angelfall sounds cool – let us know if you like it when you finish. 🙂 I’m in between books right now and the Hubs is trying to get me to read I am Ozzy. He thinks I’ll find it funny. Any spare time I have right now is being spent watching the Olympics, though.
Oh, and I forgot to say I was loving the Curiosity footage. How awesome was that when all the scientists went nuts and were jumping up and down? What a great feeling, just to watch them. I can’t imagine being one of them. What an amazing accomplishment!
Those are gorgeous!
I love love love Sonia Kashuk–her line is amazing by any standards, not just for a drugstore brand. But I love that it’s so affordable! And I’m OBSESSED with those shades–especially that green and the coppery shade…and the 2 vampy shades. Ok all of them. Leave it to Sonia Kashuk to release a line of colors that would persuade me to leave my summertime brights behind!
“Emerald City” and “Hocus Pocus” are beautiful! Is it my eyes playing tricks on me, or does the “Dime a Dozen” polish look like it has a purple undertone to it?
Also that book sounds like an interesting read, I’m going to check it out.
