Believe it or not, this is a tabby’s happy face…
Tabs was thrilled for a number of reasons today.
First, he got to hear one of his very favorite songs, Chamillionaire’s Ridin’ Dirty, which I pumped on iTunes while doing this blue and green eye look with the new Dior $60 Blue Lagoon 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette.
He always stays in the room for Chamillionaire, unlike Maroon 5, of which he’s not a fan (don’t know why, but he always leaves the room when Adam Levine starts singing). I think he thinks of Ridin’ Dirty as his personal anthem.
Picture it, Tabs strutting his stuff while it plays in the background. 🙂 Totally works, right?
Second, Tabs is a snob, or as he likes to put it, has “a taste for the finer things,” like high end makeup, Dior being one of his favorite brands.
Third, this Blue Lagoon is also a bird of Paradise, as in the new Paradise summer collection, of which it’s a part.
Birds? Paradise? Tabs?
The palette probably made him hungry for dinner, but it made me hungry for all of the fun places I could wear it this summer. 🙂
You might be thinking, “but it’s too shimmery,” and well, shimmery shadows that flock to fine lines are for the birds. Nothing makes me feel more “Holy sh*t! I am officially a cougar!” than seeing a frosty finish highlight the fine lines around my smiling eyes. But Dior’s Blue Lagoon doesn’t do that.
These shadows have more of a high-shine sheen than a high-wattage shimmer and reflect loads of light without the frosty effect that can highlight fine lines. I think that’s what makes this palette great for all ages, from teens exploring mom’s makeup collection to mature ladies who love brights.
But my favorite thing is how easily these colors blend, even with their powerful pigments. Sometimes, because of the time and effort it can take, my wrist will ache when I’m trying to blend rich blues and greens like these.
This look took me about two runs through Ridin’ Dirty to blend, so maybe about 10 minutes. Not bad. And I didn’t have to contend with any fallout.
I gotta say, when Dior gets it right, they really get it right. I think I can even talk my friend Jen and my mom into letting me do their makeup with these shades (and they aren’t big fans of blue shadows or green).
Best for: gals/guys who know their way around blues and greens and are looking for a summer splurge, or the cosmetically curious beginner who doesn’t mind spending a serious chunk of change on makeup.

Blue!!! Perfect for coming summer. I like light green eyeshadow, combo with coffee and golden shimmery color, which is my go-to eye make up. This Palette is adorable.

I’m wearing Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation on top of MAC Strobe Cream. 🙂
Put on your surprised face. My first thought was “sky high lashes, sister!”. But the shadows come in a close second. 🙂 I actually love them in the pan, too. They remind me of a comfy, down comforter at a seaside resort. Though I’m not a blue/green shadow kind of girl myself, I think they look great on you!

I know! This is definitely top of my list. I also meant to ask you if you’d tried the waterproof version of Faux Cils. I’ve never had much luck with waterproof and I love the original FC but with summer coming up, I could use some waterproof mascara.
I hear you. Everything is coming back to the sea today. A coworker got me looking at seaside castles in the UK (inadvertently). And I’m apparently the last person in the world to realize that Alnwick castle was used for Hogwarts. Still, sea, cliff AND castle. How do you beat that, really? 🙂

Yes, I read the series to them and they’ve also read some on their own as they’ve gotten older. We just started it again (taking turns reading out loud to each other at night). They’re great for kids because the vocabulary is very straight-forward but the stories are still well written. I love the books. 🙂

Not today – was rushed this morning so I just buffed a little “color” from the naked basics palette o give my eyes some shape. But I have been obsessed with silver lately, combo with green or purple. Really digging the effect with my blue/grey eyes.
Tabs is gorgeous too. So sad I can’t have a kitty of my own…

I have one from the body shop (not great – a little grainy, quite some fallout and a little tricky to blend – but the silver is quite good actually)
but I saw a video from Makeupgeek about their latest batch of shadows and Graphite looks very promising. I haven't gotten around to place my order yet but when I get them I will let you know how they are!

This palette is really beautiful, you should do a break down or a tutorial on how exactly you applied the eye shadows. I was at Ulta yesterday and I broke my no eye hshadow policy to get the LE Lorac palette, it’s amazing. I also fell in love with the new Urban Decay eyeliner in green (The Freak, I believe). I will have to get it next time!

I just started wearing the Bobbi Stick Foundation, and I really love it. One of the artists who works directly w/Bobbi, Marc Reagan, raved about it and so I caved even though I was really happy with my previous foundation routine (a mix of Illamasqua Skin Base and NARS Sheer Glow). The Bobbi stick is AMAZING. It is so flexible and really, really fast. Plus the finish looks great both in pics and real life. I have a review of it coming soon.
Oh — another thing I forgot to mention earlier. I’m also wearing MAC Strobe Cream layered underneath and Hourglass Oxygen Powder on top to set.

Well, I love blues on my brown eyes, I love Dior shadows so there seems to be only one thing to do… Buy it! lol Thanks for the swatches and review Karen. I was on the fence on this one as Dior has really blew it last spring/summer, so I only ordered the Nude Tan in Pink Glow from the new collection. Now I can order it knowing the shadows are so nice :). I’ll definitively enjoy them all summer long. Say hi to Tabs from me 🙂
