Swarovski sparkles
Did you know L’Oreal has two free-standing retail stores, one in Connecticut and the other in Southern California? Too bad the closer one to me is approximately 400 miles south at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles because I’d love to peep Red Carpet, a fancy shmansy mirrored compact designed by Kwiat for the Golden Globes.
It doesn’t come with any product inside and costs $50 (oy!), but 20 percent of the purchase price goes to support the Ovarian Cancer Fund, which I think is awesome. I dig the curvy star pattern of Swarovski crystals. Pretty, yah?
Eye-safe glitter
There seemed to be a lot of reader distress last week about MAC Glitters not being safe for eye use. In the spirit of glitter and makeup research, I went to Nordstrom and asked a few makeup artists for some recommendations.
They tipped me in on Prescriptives Eye Shadow Effects ($25), a fine glitter powder safe for use around eyes. One of the makeup artists applied some Cool Effects shadow on top of my Chanel Aurora Blues, and the tiny silvery flecks made my eyes really pop!
Both the Cool Effects (silver) and the Warm Effects (gold) shadows can be used to transform a matte look into a shimmery one. Too bad the counter was out of stock of both products at the time. Le sigh.
Japanese language comprehension
Would someone please translate this screenshot for me? I’m looking for a button that says, “spend all your money here.”
I found out about this super cute limited edition collection by Paul & Joe for Disney via Muse Media. Check out her blog sometime. It has lots of awesome Japanese makeup.
The collection contains two powders, a hand cream and a lip cream in cute Disney themed packaging. Too bad it’s only available in Japan because it’s too cute, and my irrational self says that I need it all!
Sidenote: Speaking of Disney, I just read a story today about how one of their Disney World Florida restaurants actually banned children, LOLOLZ!

Prescriptives got good foundation 🙂 I remember buying one of their foundation back when I was about 14. It wasn’t really a foundation, tinted moisturiser to be more precise. It didn’t clog my pores & didn’t leave any booboos on my young skin 🙂
Paul & Joe got good stuff. They’re so cute too. On that screenshot, it’s just talking about dates.

Parents must control their children. I am not mad @ Disney for not letting those rugrats into the restaurant.
Okay…so definitely who would take their kid to a restaurant that starts at $125 per person…seriously…I am childless…but my neices and nephews tend to prefer grilled cheese and chicken nuggets to swiss chard and coq au vin (not that I know what Victoria and Albert’s serves…I’m just saying)LOL I’m definitely not mad at Disney for that. There are a number of nice restaurants where children aren’t allowed. In fact…I think there are a lot more places where children should not be allowed. Seriously…don’t get me started on the bad parents who drag babies out to the movies at 9 at night. Or the wonderful *eye-roll* mother who brought a 4 year old to the nail shop and wanted to get mad when the kid can’t sit still through her mani and pedi…seriously I’m all for beauty and making time for yourself… but you can’t expect a 4 year old to sit still and do nothing for 40 minutes…and getting mad at the 4 year old and yelling at them for wanting to play just proves you are a bad parent.

i have been to the store at the beverly center, a couple times but i some how still buy the hip products atwalgreens or rite aid, why? because they always have buy one get one free they have it going on right now again. i am a mac girl but if i want a color i will not use often then i use the hip loreal hip cosmetics. it actually last longer than the usual drugstore brands. i have not tried pigments but reading your blog have me considering getting some. so is there a difference between the glitter and pigments? are they both safe for the eyes?

Yeah, I used Prescriptives foundation back in the daaaaay. I remember really liking it, too. They have a new one called Virtually Fresh which is supposed to be pretty amazing too – lightweight, with SPF 15.

I hear that, Megan. That poor kid at the nail shop, that’s terrible. And all the youngin’s in my fam are the same way too – no fancy shmansy meals, just mac & cheese and frozen corn is considered gourmet in their book.

One of these days when I’m in LA I’ll make it to that store. I totally want to check it out. But yeah, you’re right, if you can get a 2-for-1 you might as well stock up!
Anyway, the pigments are different from the glitters. Glitters aren’t usually eye safe, but pigments are (depends on the color though – the jar will indicate if it is/isn’t). Lots of people love MAC pigments because they have a lot of intense color, and they’re great for bold or shimmery looks!
If you’re thinking about either I’d suggest getting the pigments. I think they’re way prettier and more useful. Golden Olive is very pretty, and I’ve heard Vanilla is also good too! Hope this helps.

I love, love, love your blog – the writing is so funny and I found it a few weeks ago when I was trying to decide if I should buy MAC softsparkle liners online since I live in Japan! I spent the next few nights reading freaking everything on here and loving the swatches – what a great site. Anyways the Takashimaya department store in Tokyo is right near where I work and they carry Paul & Joe – they say it starts from 1/25 so I am on it and will go check it out for everyone for sure. You can’t get much better than Bambi and Skunk powders right?
