You know how when you finish your makeup, and you lightly mist your face with a makeup setting spray, it feels like the confirmation of a job well done?
Like spritz! Thank you! Reward. 🙂
I like that whole experiential angle to makeup setting sprays. The refreshing fragrances and enhanced wear time are just bonuses.
My current favorites are Urban Decay’s $30 All Nighter and MAC Fix+ ($22), but they’re both pretty pricey. I’d love a good drugstore option, which is why I decided to try L’Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray. It’s only $16.99, which is still expensive for drugstore, but less than All Nighter and Fix+.

Unfortunately…and you know that when someone starts a sentence with “unfortunately,” things are not about to go well, I’m going to have to keep looking for drugstore makeup setting spray nirvana.
I tested this a few different times by using it on one side of my face along with Urban Decay’s All Nighter on the other, and consistently, every time, All Nighter made my makeup on that side last longer and look fresher.
Infallible didn’t do terribly. My makeup still lasted longer than it would have if I hadn’t used any setting spray at all, so it’s a’ite, but I was hoping for more.
I’m also not a HUGE fan of the spray nozzle or the scent. The mist comes out of the bottle splotchy and uneven, leaving large drops of the product on my face, and it smells a little funky to me…like plastic and Play Doh, but I’m very particular about scent and super sensitive to it. Probably to a ridiculous degree.
As far as setting sprays go, it’ll do in a pinch, but I’m not about to crawl across a desert to get the last bottle, if you know what I mean.
PRICE: $16.99 for a 3.4-oz. bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now online and at drugstores and Ulta

Good to know, I was thinking of trying this. But I will have to keep looking for a drugstore option!
Ugh. That smell would be a deal breaker for me.
Aw, I think I got a free sample of this in one of my subscription boxes. It’s a shame it’s not all that.
That’s dumb that the sprayer works like that! You’d think for such a pricey product that the packaging would have been on point. Maybe you can put it in a different bottle?
$17? for Loreal
I wouldn’t use a finishing spray but the price is a bit high, we have a discount place here but it would still be high. Love the Infallible line though
i’m sticking with UD. I have a travel size (was free) which is lasting forever.
Also, free is the best price! And if it works that much better than the cheaper stuff, it’s worth it.
Have you tried the Japonesque Color setting spray? Currently on sale for $20 (reg. $29) at Ulta. Just a few bucks more than the L’Oreal. I find the scent pleasant and non-lingering. It’s an aerosol so I think there’s less chance of large drops. I haven’t used it enough to testify regarding the staying power though.
Imma stick with my UD All Nighter Spray then, cool.
I guess I’ll stick to Urban Decay! Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for the review, Karen. I have read similar reviews, and none of them have been raving. I love my All Nighter too, it’s been so hot and humid here lately that I have been using it all the time!
On a related note, can anyone recommend a respectable drugstore primer? I know the MUFE and Hourglass ones are the shizz, but I need a budget-friendly option.
I’ve read in a few reviews that NYX Angel Veil seems to be a good dupe for the Hourglass which I love too but pricey. I haven’t tried it yet and my local CVS doesn’t stock it so I’m going to have to purchase it online direct from NYX. Hoping someone else will chime in with their opinion of the NYX. Bueller? Anyone? …
I use the super cheap ELF setting spray ($3) for everyday and the urban decay for weekends/special occasions
I totally agree, Karen – All Nighter is way better! I found the L’Oreal one made my makeup breakdown a bit and seemed to dry my skin out a bit. I finished my bottle, but immediately re-purchased All Nighter. That’s my HG!!
Crwaling across the desert to get the last bottle. Been there, done that…
Karen,
Try Mario Badescu Facial Spray. It has aloe, herbs and rosewater, and it sets makeup beautifully. You get a decent size bottle for 12 bucks I think, and it smells like roses.

Bleh, sounds yucky smelling!
I wasn’t super impressed with this either unfortunately.
Bummer. I’m not feeling the price tag for a drugstore product & the performance just seals it for me. I’ve heard the mattifying spray from NYX ain’t bad & comes with a friendlier price tag 🙂
Thanks for this! I was wondering when I spotted it in CVS. Too bad too, because I could use coupons! But at least I get Sephora VIB points for UD. 🙂
i like Nyx’s matte setting spray. It’s not UD, but it does well for its price. I did save an empty UD bottle and pour the NYX into it for the superior spray though.
I really like the hard candy fast and fabulous setting spray. Granted its the only setting spray I’ve ever used, but it sprays a fine mist and has a nice dewy finish, and it does prolong the wear of my makeup. It doesn’t smell bad either, as far as I can tell.
I snagged this when it first came out on sale for $13.99 at Target. I immediately hated the spay bottle, but I had an old UD bottle, so I poured the Loreal into that one. I liked it ok….until the weather got warm. That was the difference for me. My UD holds no matter the season. This for me does not. NOT EVEN CLOSE! So, I did finish the bottle, but unfortunately I’m shelling out $30 for my old faithful. Beauty really does come at a price, lol!
I guess I’m the only one who really liked this spray lol. I often work long hours and this stuff locks my makeup in place and leaves it looking fresh after 9+ hours so I use it often
Karen,
I am goin with the NYX fixer ! Better drugstore price . And did you know CVS coupons do not expire !
I am going to use them ,
Michele
I havent been impressed by this. I like Lise Watier setting spray, great scent and hold.
