I hope you’re having a great morning so far. I’m just making myself some French toast and a cup of decaf green tea for breakfast while Tabs whines and mewls incessantly around the house.
He’s a very mad/sad tabby right now.
I think his meows roughly translate to, “Caturdays are the WORST, Mom!” Because we sleep in a little, which means that he doesn’t get to go outside at the crack of dawn like he does on the weekdays.
But I’ll take him out right after I have my noms, and after that, I’m heading to Napa for a weekend girls’ trip with my friends Jen and Cindy, just to hang out and relax. We’re gonna do a sleepover at the Meritage Resort & Spa and chill out by the ? pool.
Yes, I am really looking forward to that.

Ok so something other than a picture or painting on my walls is a huge metal day of the dead skull with silver flower eyes that I purchased at Ink N Iron on the Queen Mary. It hangs in my dining room and it is seriously awesome…people comment on it all the time!

still winter here in new zealand and my cat toby the ninja ginger hates it His an outsied kitty independent with an attitude so most days even when its horribe hes on his ‘chair’ outside under the eaves purveying his castle. Sometimes we are graced by his presence or he parks himself on the window sill looking peeved Roll on summer 🙂

I finally tried Nars Pro Prime Eye Primer, and I wish I could reclaim all the eyeliners and mascaras I threw away before because of smudging.
My favorite MAC counter in the whole entire world is the only one within a 50 mile radius of my house, therefore the only one I go to…LOL

I wanted to cut down on my makeup time so I decided to switch my current highlight and contour products, the contour I decided on was nars contour blush in the darkest shade. Normally I’m a creme contour girl but I must say this new method is fantastic (;
I tried liquid highlighter under my foundation the other day…it looked so so good!

I just had an, er, MAC experience yesterday at the MAC store in the mall near me. Let’s just say I had fun. I came home with (among other things) a Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Revved Up and a Cremesheen Pearl Lipstick in Pretty Boy. Like you, I have a serious coral problem this summer!
I bought a yeti to mount on my wall (think like a trophy animal but instead its a fuzzy yeti with horns on a wooden plaque hahaha). It is quite a conversation piece.
I can’t remember a funny movie, but The Office is cracking me up right now.
So, I’ve been so confused at what exactly the point of HD powder is for the longest time. So confused. So, finally I tried it. And I’m still not entirely sure, but I think it might have worked better at shine control than my usual powder? So I’m going to keep using it, even though I’m still not entirely sure it’s even doing anything. Wonderful.
I’m headed to the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival today. I’m dying to get my hands on another tube of MAC Red. I lost mine when I wore it as a chaperone at a prom, and I need a new tube before I’m a bridesmaid in a wedding next Saturday!

The last time I did something different with my makeup and it turned out great was when shooting for my “Inspired by…”-series. I try something different all the time and it usually looks better on me than I would have imagined.
It’s not a movie, but the show Burning Love is the funniest show I’ve ever seen, it’s a parody on the Bachelor/Bachelorette and is hilarious!

I have never had a makeover at a makeup counter
New makeup I encountered that actually worked was trying an eyeliner that was blue. The shade was indigo, and I was a little worried, but now it’s one of my favorite ones!

The last new thing I tried with my makeup was two different brightly colored mascaras. I did electric blue on the top lashes and teal on the bottom ones. I kept the rest of the eye pretty neutral, and used a JCAT Pout-holic lipstick in Candy Man (grayish-blue cream) on my lips. It was a fun way to wear blues other than my eyeshadow.
The funniest movie that I’ve watched recently was Get Hard. So funny!

Hey! This weekend is crunch time for my CPA exams. Your posts give me a brief moment of joy throughout the day as I cram as many FASB, IFRS, and GAAP tidbits as I possibly can into my brain. My exams are in 3 days yikes! I passed two so far and am taking the next two, FAR and REG, back to back this week.I’m so ready for these dumb exams to be done. I finally start working for a firm at the end of this month and you better believe the first paycheck will have a small amount of spend spree reserved on it. Better start checking out some items on your posts with more critical eyes and see what I must get! OR I should probably wait for the holiday sets… UGH decisions! Also I’ve decided to leave my cat with my parents, wah. She was inside, then got a taste for the great outdoors. There is no way I could feel good about sticking her in a cramped little apartment now when I move in two weeks…. I will miss her :,( She is the same way in the AMs as Tabs!!!

On Thursday I tried a new eyeshadow look that turned out awesome! I used the WnW palette Comfort Zone (the one color that’s a dupe for MAC’s Blue Brown but was, sadly, terrible quality) + my UD Electric palette and I lurved the look. I only did one eye because I wasn’t sure where I was going with the colors but it totally convinced me to go out & buy the Buxom No Faux shadow (also a dupe for Blue Brown but in shadow form instead of pigments- which I prefer). Have an awesome girls’ weekend!
Hey Karen! I hope your Caturday is going purrrrfect. Mine is hot and balmy here in Michigan. The last time I tried something *new* with my make up was not wearing make up at all.. lol. Since it has been so hot I have been in a massive ‘oh well’ mode, letting my hair be natural and my face also. It actually turned out great because I am slowly letting go of my somewhat compulsive “need” to wear makeup. So that’s what’s new on my make up end. That being said, $50 for some *actual* make up would be awesome 🙂 Have a nice day!

The latest thing that I tried was false eyelashes!!! I loved it!!! It was so fun! Poor Tabs! I understand/get the whole cat deal – I’ve been taking care of a Momma and kitties for the past few weeks. I’ve been trying to relocate them in new homes and I’ve placed two of them so far — and I’m worried. There’s two girls left and the Momma… and it’s almost the first of the month already. My landlord has already said that he will call the pound and I can stand the thought of those little kitties perishing. Nor for that matter Mattie, the Momma cat. I worry so much about it. I’ve done what I know to do, I put them in a pet finding group on face-book, placed an ad in the local newspaper — no calls yet. I have Gracie as you know and I just cannot keep three more girls!!! Any ideas Karen?

These are movies from the 90’s but it’s a toss up between True Lies and Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber. I laughed out loud repeatedly for all 3 in theaters, something that hardly ever happens. Something might be funny but anymore it’s just noted or you smile, but you don’t burst out laughing. True Lies is still funny every time I watch it, but Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber were only funny the first time and the subsequent times just fell flat, you know?

This afternoon we’ll be going to my MIL’s Care Home for their annual summer BBQ. Despite her advancing dementia, my MIL will ask me to help her put on some “fancy” clothes and help her put on some lipstick. She may or may not know who I am, but she still knows that she wants to “look like a lady” for special occasions. Every time I help her do her nails or dust on some face powder I hope that I am as much of a lady.

I like to head into Nordstrom for most of any brand that Sephora doesn’t have or doens’t have an extended collection of–including MAC. I try not to go into MAC stores period–I’m not a huge fan of the music.
I recently tried using a peach/orange base as a corrector before applying concealer to cover my insanely dark underage circles. It looked ridiculous while applying, but with concealer over top and blended it actually ended up looking pretty good, and concealed better than my usual concealer alone!
i recently tried out the “iconic urban decay smoky eye” from the lookbook inside naked smoky and it is a DREAM! i felt so sultry and glam 😉

Your spa weekend sounds great! Even just a mani/pedi would be great to be honest. So I’ve been craving Red Vines and for some reason the only small packs they had are grape flavored. I just tried them out and they can go straight in the trash hah. Not a fan and I’m still craving Red Vines, if not more now!
My favorite MAC counter is a cozy little place in Paris, near Louvren. As a little girl i went there and was amazed by all the beautiful stuff. This year, as a faithful MAC lover I went there again! Love it!
I have an inexpensive container of 6 eye shadows that I got as a freebie a long time ago. One of them is super dark charcoal with sparkles in it. I didn’t think I’d ever use it, but yesterday I was too lazy to do my eyeliner so I lined my upper lids with the dark shadow instead and it actually looked great! But the drawback was it started smearing about 2 hours later.

I recently started mixing Stila Aqua Bronzer with my foundation and it makes me look so glowy. Also, baking underneath my contour with my beauty blender to put the powder down with before brushing it away. Love that!
My new makeup thing – I’ve been experimenting with new tinted brow fibre products instead of using shadow to fill in and shape my thin recovering-from-the-90s brows. Tried both the Benefit Gimme Brow and L’Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper. Enjoying both and love that they both having staying power and hold in addition to color. A definite makeup win!
I’m about to try something new: false lashes! I picked some up that were on sale, I’m sure they’re cheap ones but I just gotta try it.

So the last time I tried something with my makeup was when I bought sort of a dark red vampy lipstick from MAC. It’s the shade Media if you’ve ever heard of it. I fell in love with the look and I don’t really wear it often, but I am so glad I decided to try something new. I’m thinking of buying a dark purple vampy shade from MAC the next time I want to try something new.
Those MAC eyeshadow colors are gorgeous… How did they get that amazing wave effect in there? They’re like a work of art. I love MAC….

So this week was my first week back to work after I’ve been on maternity leave for 12 weeks and I utterly missed my baby girl sooooo much! I didn’t cry but my heart did long for her. It was very hard!
The best conversation I’ve had recently is with my best friend. We laughed as we remembered trying desperately to fit in as young teens/adults. We failed. Thank the gods.
My favorite MAC counter is the one at the “fancy” mall in my hometown. I used to work at one of the stores there and hang at the Macy’s MAC counter to play with makeup on my breaks.
Currently I’m on the hunt for a treadmill so I can work on my fitness. We’re really limited in our rural area so I’m on the phone with my mom who’s from Iowa, visiting Chicago, looking at treadmills for me.

I don’t know if I have a favorite MAC counter…if any! I always feel so intimidated. The PRO store in SF is always so small and crowded, and the SAs can be a little pushy, trying to make you buy more than you intend to.
Last time I did something new with my makeup, I tried doing some crazy graphic liner and really liked how it turned out!
I am currently in LOVE with the MAC lipstick, Matte Royal A55! Let me just say that this color has not failed me yet! It’s the perfect blue color for a night on the town, and I am so happy I purchased it! I need to go back and pick up some more!:)
I have a collection of carved wooden masks on my walls. I have some African ones and and Indonesian one that looks like a snarling jaguar. They’re kind of scary but they are supposed to keep bad spirits away!
I have a license plate from New Brunswick hanging on my kitchen wall. My dad and I have a long standing completion for who can see the most license plates from different states and countries. He gave me a New Brunswick plate because one year on my birthday he beat me to seeing a NB plate on a car in a Barnes and Noble parking lot.
Well there is only one MAC counter in OKC so I guess by default that is my favorite one,the SA’s are pretty cool. I did see a MAC counter in the Denver airport coming back from vacation in May and if I had more time between flights…I would have attacked that store

Yes, I have a large woven tapestry, a smaller woollen wall hanging from Ecuador and then several embroideries including some very cool bleeding hearts very small Norwegian Hardanger cross-stitch. Oh yes, I also do mosaic glass work, so I have a couple of those in the windows.

Hi karen, hope you are having a great weekend. I had a heart cath procedure Wednesday and everything went well! (For reference, I am 25 years old) I had a family reunion today and it was a great turnout, saw some family I hadn’t seen in years. oh and also! The day I got home from my heart cath, I had urban decay naked smoky waiting for my on my table! I love it! It’s great, very easy to use with a light hand to not go overboard and have a “black eye”.

hey girl! oh gosh, isnt trying on makeup tricks just the best kind of experimentation? I love it way more than science experiments hehe
some of the greatest tricks i have used have been by accident. I used urban decay setting spray to wet eyeshadow brushes and then use them to get really intense pigmentation out of my shadows. other cool things i love to use are using lipstick as blush, i find it works just like a gorgeous cream blush. ive also used a cool tone matte brown shadow for contouring. playing with makeup is ridiculously fun! there are so many possibilities 😀 also another cool way to use makeup is using setting spray, a liner brush and the electric palette from urban decay. you get endless bright colored eyeliners!

I recently tried out Mac’s stone lipstick and love it! At first, I thought I looked dead. But once I started playing around with different lip liners and glosses, I found the perfect combination. Stone lipstick with chestnut liner and either fresh brew or spice lip gloss on top. It’s perfect!

Not really makeup, but I recently started doing my nails myself. (I used to get gel nail polish manicures.) I decided to try some beginner nail art and accent nails. I suck at nail art, but I like a simple accent nail.

Last time you tried something new with your makeup and it turned out great? Yesterday I used loose pigments on my eyelids for the first time. I used FIX+ with a golden brown pigment and the result was amazing! It matched my tanned skin perfectly.

The funniest movie I have ever watched is Rush Hour
I tried to do an ombre lip the other day. I did my top lip in one color (smolder eye kohl from mac) and for my bottom lip i did the ombre. I used smolder again on the outside of my lip and I used viva glam miley in the middle. I blended it together and added a shimmery eye shadow (seedypearl also from mac) It turned out amazing omg i loved it. The color turned from a dark purple color on the outside to a lighter purple and then pink. It was so pretty!! My description does not do it justice.
I haven’t tried MAC! I find the stores to be really overwhelming and I don’t know where to begin. A gift card would be great motivation!
My grad school acceptance letter is hanging on the wall of my office. I love too many funny movies to label one as the funniest, but “The Princess Bride”, “Caddyshack” & “Cry Baby” are among my favorites.
I love experimenting with new types of makeup, especially bright colors of lipstick, but I’m always nervous to wear them out in public since I’m don’t usually wear a lot of makeup. It’s always fun to browse makeup counters though!
The last makeup technique that I used that I am absolutely obsessed with would have to be dampening my beauty blender with my setting spray. It sounds weird, but it seems to work on my skin!
Woo, well last time I’ve tried a dark creamy matt eyeshadow by Pupa as an eyeliner and it totally worked! Firstly I’ve just wanted to put it all over my eyelid, but as it turned out to be not such a great idea (especially for this heat here in Hungary), I’ve cleaned it up and went for a second round. And it worked, didn’t flick, didn’t smudge. Hella good product, I can tell 😀

I love to hang different types of art on my walls. I have several ceramic pieces that are sunflowers and birds made by a local artist. At a craft show I found a gorgeous handcut wood trivet with an intricate design which is on a wall. Lastly, I purchased several old tin ceiling tiles and have hung them in several places.

Although, I hear that MAC just opened a makeup studio on the upper east side of Manhattan, so I’m dying to go there and have my makeup done. Not a movie, but a TV Show. I just love ‘Everybody loves Raymond’. There is this one episode which is my favorite, no actually two. ‘Thank you notes’ and ‘Meat balls’. I am usually quite wary of cream contours/contour products in general !! Obsessed with highlighters though ?!! Just got the Charlotte tilbury Norman Parkinson one ( I admit for the packaging) but I am really loving it!! I tried a look with all cream products including blush, highlighter and the bronzer and really loved the outcome!!
I like the photos of Tabs in boxes—cats are so fun! This morning I emptied out the laundry basket and was about to put it back into the closet and Luna came flying across the room, up over the arm of the couch and into the basket. Basket and cat are still on the couch.

Newest makeup trend I tried has been highlighting and just bronzer no contour ! I love how it’s a really fresh and everyday kind of look!

I prefer to shop online but if I am going to hit a counter it will be the one at the Nordstrom store at Somerset in Troy, MI.
My favorite MAC counter would have to be the one in Chicago where I purchased most of the Madame B collection. That’s when I fell in love with MAC.

The best convo I’ve had this week was with one of my besties who just got married on Saturday! It was a beautiful backyard wedding 🙂
So I just used Mac’s Face and Body for the first time. I started an acne medication that dried my skin out insanely!!! My makeup looked terrible and patchy. But wow!!!! Face and body has worked miraculously on my dry skin! Beautiful dewy finish. Highly recommend. Thanks for the opportunity 🙂

My fave is the MAC store at Tysons Corner.
My favorite MAC Counter in the whole world is the one in Ludwig Beck. Munich, Germany. It feels so lush and customer service is always on point. Plus, it’s a nice little adventure to the city.
I haven’t tried anything super crazy makeup wise lately…. But I wanna try a really colourful eye as that is way outa my comfort range lol.

i honestly don’t have a favorite Mac counter. The one in our Macy’s is just ok. I prefer to shop online.
I have birdcage that slashed into two pieces hanging on the backyard wall. It was actually my canary’s cage but since she was gone and i don’t want to caged another bird, i use it as a decorative item on my backyard.

On a wall from my bedroom I have as decor a vintage style metal sign covered with magnets I have bought during trips and that I have received as souvenirs from others.

I had a really great conversation with my sisters today about Christmas dinner. I know it’s July but you have to start planning for these things way in advance.
I have a shadow-box on my wall that I made which has my Husband’s boutonniere and some of our dating & Wedding related keepsakes in it.
Besides random art placed in a collage like fashion on my wall, I actually hang all my necklaces around clear plastic thumbnails. I think it looks cute and it helps me figure out what to pick out every day because it’s all laid out in front of me.

Hi just saw the movie Trainwreck and it’s up there w some of tr funniest movies I’ve ever seen although Wedding Crashers is still my favorite comedy.
My FAVORITE mac counter is by far the store in the Boca mall (Boca raton, Florida) because they are the most helpful, kind, talented people in the biz! They know all the right stuff. #mycounterisbetterthanyourcounter

well, my favourite casual conversation this past week was with a walk in to the jewelers. i needed to get my wedding set resized, and he was a great conversation. we chatted about what i needed done, and he explained what he was going to do, and that his schedule was a bit pressing since he was leaving for vacation.
so i’m wedding ring set-less until the second week of august. it feels weird! i wouldn’t leave it for so long with just anybody, but his vibe was positive, so i trust he’ll do a fine job. 🙂

I’ve freestyle rapped a couple of times and can’t say I’m any good, but I did spend a stint as a professional beatboxer, so I can do drums for any and all freestyle rap battles to come 🙂
