With “1” being unimportant and “10” being very, VERY important, where do you fall?
I’m probably about an “8” on the flavor scale. If I really like a color and how the product performs, I can overlook a mildly funky flavor as long as it’s faint and fades quickly, but if something tastes a lot like plastic or feet or plastic feet (LOL! But you know it’s true sometimes…), then there’s no freakin’ way. Not even if it’s the most perfect lip product ever in the most beautiful color I’ve ever seen.
How about you? On a scale of 1-10, how important is flavor when it comes to lip products?

Not important. But if I get to pick I’d go for fruity or vanilla. Nothing too minty or fresh.
Very! I’m super picky, which is a big reason I don’t buy a lot of lip products. I prefer no scent or flavor, but if it’s mild, I can deal.
Very important, but not as important as long wear. There are enough good tasting, good formula, and long wear products out there that there’s no reason to settle!
I don’t like flavor that stays around but I’ll accept it if it’s an ok flavor. What gets me is when it interferes with the taste of food. My Fresh and Pacifica tinted balms do that. Bite depends on how long I’ve been wearing it before eating. Luckily none of the flavors taste bad, but it’s still annoying.
I put a 6. I’m not really picky, and I can put up with a not-so-great scent if I love the product. However, I can’t stand super-plasticky or perfumey. Heavily floral scented lipsticks are a “no.” I also had a LORAC lip gloss that was so heavily artificial cotton-candy scented that I gagged every time I try to use it. So that kind of thing is a “no,” as well. Heavy SPF taste is also a deal-breaker. So gross!
VERY IMPORTANT!!! I snagged a couple of lipsticks and glosses from Gucci back when they first launched and sadly they all sit in my makeup drawer collecting dust? I just couldn’t get past the awful floral/soapy taste they had. And they are gorgeous. I may try them again if I can find a solution to getting past the taste
Fairly important. I don’t mind a subtle scent but I really prefer unflavored lip products. If it’s a very light fruit or floral taste, I can deal with it. I don’t like minty, but the worst are the plastic-y, chemical ones. Yuk!
I guess it’s really important to me, because I can’t stand fragrance or flavor in my lipsticks. MAC is about the most I can tolerate in the lipstick taste/smell category. I’m trying to get better about it, but sometimes the taste and smell just get to me.
I like mind a fruity smell like YSL and MAC but if it’s a strong floral or other scent it really puts me off and no matter how much I like the color I just won’t reach for it. I have to try on before buying any lip product for sure!
I have to say I don’t find Flavor all that important as long as its not really bad, but smell is very important to me I can’t use things that smell funky I just can’t I get a lot of headaches which are frequently caused by smell so I try to stick to things that are pleasant smelling haha.
very important. i love vanilla or mint, but i can’t stand heavily scented lipstick, it gave me headache (e.g milani lipstick). but i am ok with unscented lipstick
I can’t stand perfumey lip products — Lancome comes to mind here. A few years ago I got a Lancome lipstick as part of a GWP and the lipstick looked good on me but the scent… yuck. Somewhere I read that if the tube was uncapped and left for a few days the scent would dissipate, but that didn’t work either. On the other hand, I love Bite Beauty’s lipsticks because they have a fruity scent and flavour when first applied, and they’re made with food-grade ingredients which is a plus. I like MAC lipsticks too because of the vanilla scent.
I put 1! It’s honestly not important to me at all, especially if it’s a gorgeous color. Also, I always put the same super minty lip balm under my lip products, so that might have something to do with it 😉

Of course, since I’m a food blogger, taste in lip products is of extreme importance. Whatever I’m wearing on my lips must coordinate with the food I’m eating. (I kid, I kid).
But seriously, what a lip product tastes like is very important to me. I’ve returned lipsticks before that have had a weird flavor. And when I find a lip product I love whose taste is also the jam, I’m thrilled.
That said, the taste of the Makeup For Ever Artist Plexi Glosses, which I adore, really bothers me. It’s got a weird like grassy smell and taste but I love the wear and the colors of their lip gloss so much, I’m dealing with it. But I’m not happy about it. #firstworldproblems
Super important because if the flavor is bad (overly strong vanilla or chemical taste), then I won’t use the product. My fav is mint. Tarte’s LipSurgence has a lovely mint scent.

I choose 8. Same as you, I’m willing to overlook a slight unpleasant taste if the product is long performing, moisturising, etc. but if it’s really bad, I’m not in. Makes me glad they have testers in shops.
