Bring Out Your Inner Makeup-Loving Mermaid With the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Makeup Brushes

In addition to a whole boat load of amazing marine inspired products, Tarte also introduced a set of fabulous brushes fit for Ariel herself with their Rainforest of the Sea collection.

I tend to feel like brushes don’t get enough love… I mean, it seems like we generally only talk about them when we’re complaining about washing them (guilty as charged). On top of that, I’m one of those former kids that just loved finger painting and can’t get enough of my (clean) god given applicators when I’m putting on my makeup each morning. BUT, an artist is only as good as their tools, and a good makeup brush can make all the difference.

Tarte Double-Ended Foundation Brush ($34) — This brush was designed with the brand’s Sea Water Foundation in mind. Each end is composed of duo-fiber bristles with a different intended purpose. The smaller side of the brush is ideal for facial contours and concealer application. I personally prefer working with smaller tools, so I also find this side helpful when applying foundation across my entire face (particularly with Sea Water Foundation, as it requires speedy blending before it sets). The larger end of this brush can be used to buff and blend, and per Tarte creates an “airbrushed effect.”

Tarte Double-Ended Highlighter Brush ($34) — This brush would be ideal for fans of strobing. The precision end allows you to really pack on highlighter wherever you desire — on the tops of your cheekbones, brow bones, the inner corners of your eyes or on your Cupid’s bow. The larger fan-shaped end still deposits a fair amount of product; however, it creates a more diffused effect. I can see the large side of this brush working equally well for blush application as it does for highlighter. (And, if I’m honest, this is my favorite of the bunch!)

Tarte Double-Ended Color Correcting Brush ($24) — This brush is intended to be used with the Wipeout Color Correcting Palette to create an airbrushed look that perfects the overall appearance of the skin. The precision side (shown right below) can be used to target specific problem areas, while the duo fiber side is ideal for blurring out harsh lines. I love this brush for color correcting, but it’s also great for concealing and contouring as well.

Tarte Double-Ended Eyeshadow Brush ($24) — This brush is a classic kit essential for professionals and everyday makeup lovers. If you already own a trusty shadow brush, it might not to be essential for you, but it is exceptionally soft and gives me a diffused, soft smokey look that I love. It contours with matte colors, pats on shimmery shades and blends deeper shades at my outer corners. Tarte’s double-ended dynamic duo has quickly replaced my MAC 217 as my most reached for shadow brush. It is that good.

Tarte Double-Ended Lip Brush ($24) — Unlike almost all other applicators that can remain comfortably at home on your vanity, lip brushes really do need to tag along wherever you go. That’s why Tarte’s handy little tool is one of my favorites. The precision point (shown below on the left) has a twisting mechanism that allows the brush to retract, keeping the bristles safe and hygienic. On the opposite end, a larger brush allows you to pick up color directly from the tube and blend on the lips. The large end comes with a metal cap, meaning that both sides will be 100% protected in your purse should you choose to take this tool on-the-go, along with your favorite Tarte lipstick.

I love that the double ends of these brushes make for quick blending before your product sets.

Rather than fishing through my cup of brushes for the tool that will be just right, I’m able to do a quick switch-a-roo and change my application method. This is most noticeable when color-correcting and concealing. I dab the product on with clean fingers, blend in the product with the precision end of the brush, and then diffuse harsh lines with the larger side.

Best of all? Generally speaking, whenever I get a new brush, the bristles shed like mad the first few times I use it, but all of Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea brushes are especially well made and haven’t shed a bit, despite being washed several times. The base brushes, for instance, have already been washed five times with nary a shedding hair in sight!

For the price point, I think Tarte created a high quality and particularly gorgeous range of brushes here. Whether you’re looking for the next special applicator in your tool arsenal, or you’re a collector of gorgeous brushes, or you haven’t washed your current brushes in a while and find yourself picking out something new at Sephora because you don’t want to face the inevitable heavyduty brush cleansing session at home, Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea brushes are sure to please.
