This is an exciting time of year for Tabs. We get company coming over, trees inside, blinking lights, the biggest turkeys of the year — it’s a cat cornucopia of comfy couches, fragrant foliage, tinsel, tasty treats and plump plumage.

As the head of the decorating committee for Tabs the Cat Industries, LLC, Tabs is responsible for the Christmas tree decorations, and I just sort of do what he says.
He hasn’t decided on the overall theme yet, but he’s got it narrowed down to baked red, green and silver catnip crispy ornament treats, or strings of classic white lights and red Christmas balls.
Probably. He’s not sure yet.

Whichever way he goes, he’s got a lot of help. The decorating committee on standby and awaiting orders.

As for this morning’s patrol, it was mostly uneventful, except for this one cat who tried to steal one of the decorative catnip plants by the company main entrance.

But Tabs stared him down, and the cat skulked away.

This is a great time of year for cats. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love Connor Claire hugging her big brother!
No tree here because Mina and Hettie are not trustworthy. We’ve also been babysitting our friend’s 14 year old lab/blue heeler mix, so lots of activity around here!
Hi Chelsea,
She LOVES him. When she was sick last month she slept next to me in bed, and in the middle of the night I woke up to find her sitting up and hugging Tabs just like that. It was the cutest thing!
How long will you be babysitting? Your house always sounds so lively and fun and filled with fur babies.
I’m not sure, my friend’s off her feet for a while so it might be an extended stay. We love him and he’s really good. He needs help getting up and around sometimes because of arthritis.
That’s sweet of you guys. I hope the kids are getting along with him OK.
He and Hettie are friends, although she gets a little overexcited sometimes and knocks him over. The kitties do not seem to notice him since he’s usually just napping.
Your cats are SO chill. Seriously Tabs would have none of that!
Speaking of cats Connor went crazy over some tabby kitties at the pet store a couple weeks ago. We may or may not have been *this close* to taking one (or like all three) of them home.
ah
I’m guessing you have some kind fancy camera to get those cat close ups, that I can’t get with my Iphone
🙂
Hi Isabella,
They were taken with an iPhone! I used portrait mode. Or if you force the focus on the main subjects face (I just tap the screen), you can do it that way too. You have to be close enough but not too close, and you’ve got to hold the camera extremely still.
Karen
don’t think I have that on the 6 s+
spouse has a 7 will check it out there
Kate moves as soon as I get in position
You could also try using the burst mode on your iPhone; that way you get a bunch of pictures at once, and one of them is bound to be a good one!
It is a great time for cats and toddlers!
It sure is! We live in extraordinary times!
I love Tabs. Can’t start my Monday without knowing the goings ons of lil Tabs! Love your writing. Clever, clever, clevah!
Thanks, Nina! Tabs loves you too. 🙂
These are big decisions. I can see why Tabs is taking his time to get things just right! 🙂 I love that he lets Connor hug him. So sweet!
He’s the best tabby boy ever. Just when I think I couldn’t love him even more he goes and becomes Connor’s BFF. It’s too much!
He really is! Kitty modeling aside, he’s a very special boy in many other ways. 🙂
He is. I have a feeling he will always be my “soul cat.” If you met him you’d fall in love with him, too.
Karen,
Tabs has come so far with Connor Claire since you first brought her home and he was “suspicous” of this new “human”. I love the bond that they have!
I have only put up small under 4 ft trees for the past few years, but I got a 6 ft tree from Target on sale last week so I’m going to attempt this, hoping Rose does not want to go exploring UP the tree. As you know, she is a little older now so I’m hoping she has no interest in climbing this!
When I lived in Manhattan she was a kitten, and I caught her trying to climb the tree–I yelled at her so loudly she didn’t attempt it again.
I bought unbreakable ornaments!
Fingers crossed!
xoxo
Anne Marie and Rose
Hi Anne Marie and Rose,
We have many stories of Tabs and trees and lots of naughtiness. One year he climbed up the trunk and knocked the entire thing over; the funny thing is I was actually in the same room, and he did it in slow motion or something because I DIDN’T HEAR A THING. I looked over my shoulder and then bam, there was the tree horizontal on the ground.
He’s more chill these days and prefers to hang out underneath the branches. Occasionally he’ll take a bite or two out of one just for fun.
Good luck with the tree and please give Rose a hug for me.
