There’s absolutely nothing shy or coy about a fiery, orangey red, especially one that’s as opaque and matte as Tom Ford Cristiano. I think it has a little bit of a vintage vibe to it, yeah? Like Betty Draper would’ve gone MAD HARD on this lippie back in the day.
I’ve noticed that orangey red lipsticks, particularly matte ones like Cristiano, look extra vibrant when you wear them with a navy blue or denim top. I don’t always coordinate my makeup and my clothing, but if a bold statement orangey red is involved, I’ll grab a blue dress or shirt when I’m getting dressed in the morning.
I think it’s that whole color theory thing… Blue and orange are on opposite sides of the color wheel, so they’re considered complementary colors. Maybe that’s why a warm orangey red and a cool blue just totally WORKS.
I also like pairing warm orangey red lips like these with bronze eyeshadow and/or eyeliner, which I’m wearing in the top pic. I think the two really go well together, like the colors in a sunset.

Been meaning to ask about your new antique tchotchkes! What did you get? I’m not really into antiquing but I’ve been watching a lot of DIY home decor videos lately and have the weird urge to hit up garage sales so I can find old furniture to repaint. It doesn’t look too hard… FAMOUS LAST WORDS.
I have MAC Lady Danger and a couple drugstore ones that I can’t think of the names of right now.
I’ve been collecting little planters in the shapes of animals or what have you to put a single cacti or succulent in, so I found a few of those. I am running out of space to put them but they look cute sitting on windowsills. Painted furniture looks super cute especially if you use that “chalk paint” which I’ve never tried but I love the look of it. I found a 60’s mid century buffet to put in my dining room at an estate sale a couple years ago and I just had to sand down and re-stain the top. Definitely my favorite piece!

So, our garden store down the street has this intense selection of succulents, and I’m always tempted to get one or two of them when I pop in, but for the life of me I just can’t keep a cacti alive. Every other plant, sure, but succulents — NOPE. The only one I’ve ever did OK with was a gorgeous aloe that my friend’s mom gave me a cutting of when I was in college. Seriously, her plant was, like, 30 years old in 1995. That cutting was on my desk for years. It was my study buddy! I left it at my parents’ house after I graduated, and my dad decided to “free” it in the front yard, which eventually led to its demise.
Re: antique furniture. I think it’s awesome, by the way, that you were able to find that buffet and give it new life. I’ve never revamped furniture before but now I really want to try! Is it very hard to learn how to use a sander?
Succulents are hard! I always overwater! I have found a few varieties that are more tolerant than others. I don’t have a llama (yet) but West Elm has some cute ones. Learning how to use a sander isn’t hard but I can’t say I enjoy it!
Me too. You know what else is hard? Orchids! Have you ever had one? It’s a miracle I haven’t killed the one on my desk. The only reason why it’s probably alive is I only water it once a month, on the 1st.
I can imagine that the dust from a sander gets EVERYWHERE. I would probably wear a shower cap when I used one. 🙂

Yassss Dragon Girl is my THANG lol. I don’t think I’ve tried Red Square, I’ll have to check it out! I wouldn’t mind 365 days of reds, ha!
Oh wow, I think you might like it! It’s definitely warmer than Dragon Girl but it’s just as pretty and punchy! Looks great with warm golds, bronzes and browns.
Such a pretty shade, I love orangey reds especially in the summer.

Speaking of, I put on Smashbox Bing this AM (I’m keeping my word to try reds every day – HAHA!). I nearly had a heart attack because it was so orangey. So, I just took some tissue to it and then clear glossed. It was much more my speed. 🙂 I will say that I feel like I need to line my lips, though. The reds really like to bleed out into Joker territory. So far, I did Bing (today), then Nars Cruella (yesterday) and I did try an EL nude with the only “red” gloss I had. It was MAC Dazzleglass Creme Allure which seemed more hot pink but looked decent. I just don’t care for the stiff brush applicator. I like doefoot much better. And I need to pick up a true red gloss.

You know what really helps the reds stay put and not go Joker? Long-wearing matte liquid lipsticks. Physicians Formula makes a good one, and so does MAC! They both do a great job of not bleeding out.
And yay for at least *trying* to wear reds. Points for that!
P.S. Did you wear Cruella, like, full on? Or did you do a stain?
Oh, stain, of course. It was more of a dab and tap with my fingers. Thanks for the recs on the non-bleeding reds. Are they pretty moisturizing? Yes, I’m definitely giving myself points for wearing something aside from clear balm or gloss. 🙂
Clearly I’m catching up on several days of MBB, but this is gorgeous. Love orange reds. I just don’t like pink reds on me.
