There aren’t many makeup compromises I won’t make when I have to, because life happens, and necessity is the mother of invention. But whenever I do commit to doing something, anything, and as long as I have enough time for 5-minute makeup, I’ll always do the following…
1. I’ll fill in my “ghost brows” ?
Also known as the tail end of my brows, which tend to disappear like ghosts! I’m currently loving Hourglass Arch Brow Gel.
Will I ever stop talking about this product? Um…probably not!
Well, not until something better comes along. 😉 It’s pretty amaze-balls.
2. Curl my lashes
Every time I do them (the Surratt is my go-to these days), I pray that nobody sneaks up behind me and yells “BOO!” while I’m in the process… I have an irrational fear of accidentally pulling out big chunks of lashes while I’m curling.
Anyone else suffer from this affliction? Anyone? Bueller?
3. Tightline my upper water line
Every. Damn. Day. It’s why I go through so many sticks of Chanel 88 Noir Intense. I do it more now than I did in my 20s and 30s because my eyes are getting progressively more hooded as the years go by (it happens to all the women in my family).
Tightlining creates the illusion of a little extra space on my lids and makes my eyes seem like they’re set deeper, and it also makes my lashes look thicker. 🙂
How about you? Hook or crook, what are the steps in your makeup process that you never, ever skip?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Corrector to cancel out the blue under my eyes and mascara. The rest of my face can be bare, but that is the minimum.
Concealer, concealer, concealer….then I would say brows and a bit of gloss.
Cheers, Lisa

I have a basic 5 minute face that I do pretty much every day. I’ll do a little more if I’m going out or its a special occasion. It includes concealer, color corrector on my cheeks, foundation, setting powder, bronzer/blush, brow powder, eyelash curler, mascara, and something neutral on my lips. Sounds like a lot but its pretty fast!
I always fill in my “ghost brows,” too. ? And mascara. Then chapstick. Always. I’ll even accept being late to make sure I finish the above steps!
I have this thing…where I am incapable of doing a minimal/five minute face. It’s all or nothing for me, ha ha. My skin and eyelids are oily so I can’t really forego primer or powder because if I do it’ll just look bad anyways.
I’m 100% the same way! It’s so frustrating because I LOVE makeup and wearing makeup, but I don’t feel like “me” unless I have on my usual full face, which is admittedly a lot of makeup by most people’s standards. When I don’t have time to do the whole she-bang, I usually just opt to go without entirely.
I do wish that I could find a less involved routine that makes me happy but also takes much less time!
I’m in this club! It’s all or nothing ?
I never skip moisturizer and gobs of sunscreen, but that’s skincare not really makeup. Hmm, I guess mascara and some type of moisturizing lip color.
You’re not alone in your fear of ripping out lashes. My DH calls my eyelash curler “prisoner of war eye torture”. Lol.
I’ve been trying to get a Surratt lash curler forever. It’s always sold out. It was listed as in stock for the Sephora sale and I put one in my cart but it was sold out before I could check out. Grrr. I keep calling Barney’s in SF but they never seem to have it in stock either. I guess it doesn’t really matter because I only curl my lashes for super fancy made up occasions, otherwise I just rely on my mascara to create curl.
Hi! Have you tried in-store at Sephora? That’s where I found mine. It was tucked away in an end cap. SpaceNK has them too, but they’re often sold out.
I never look in my local Sephora because it’s small and they don’t carry Surratt. So I just assumed there wouldn’t be one. Will check it out tomorrow on my way home from the gym. Thanks for the tip.
I do these same things! Brows, curl and tightline. I recently bought the Ultra HD Perfector Blurring Skin Tint from Make Up For Ever. I’m able to quickly apply it and it helps even out my skin tone. And it has SPF 25.
After that a quick roll of the lint brush to remove the ever present cat hair and I’m good to go! 🙂
So , I’ve been leaving out concealer because no matter which of my 1000 eyeliners I choose they all run !
I fill in my microbladed brows w my new found Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow gel . Only $8 drugstores .
I use one of my one million face bases . Hourglass is the best and they also have a stick .
Blush always because I am pale .
Eyeshadow . Probably brown .
Then curled lashes get mascara .
Lipstick or gloss .
I’ve been doing this for more than 50 years so I have it down !
For me the fast makeup is tinted sunscreen or SPF foundation + lipstick. if I have a few more seconds I will add blush, lash curl and mascara. pretty please Karen with sugar on top, can you do a tightline tutorial for those of us who have sensitive eyes and are makeup technique challenged? I have tried for years to master this trick and I don’t know what I am doing wrong! it always ends up a mess and/or with irritated eyes. maybe I need to get a Chanel Stylo eyeliner to help? am I using the wrong product, wrong technique? I am so lost here but others make it look easy.
Me too!!!! And by years I mean I tried it once and it was terrible. I couldn’t stop blinking and the eyeliner came off instantly because my eyes were crying. It shouldn’t be that hard!
I send that emotion! I need a tightline tutorial.
Hi Lorraine,
Sure, I can do that. I think it can be easy with a few tricks and certain products.
What liners have you tried in the past, by the way?
mostly soft pencil type liners or waxier kohl pencils, but I did try Laura Mercier tight line cake eyeliner, as well. I give up too easily once my eyes start to water. thanks for the help!
Besides skincare, I cannot leave the house without doing my lashes. Curl, prime and 2 coats of mascara are a must. Lately it seems my brows are getting lighter so I do add brow envy quickly and brush it out so it looks natural.
Question Karen, what other colors of the Chanel liner do you use for tightlining? My eyes are dark brown, what would you suggest? Definitely going to try the Chanel liner. Right now the only one I can use that doesn’t bother my eyes is Bobbi Brown gel liner. Always looking for something new to try!
Hi Pam,
I use 88 Noir Intense regularly, but I’ve also used and loved Ebene. Nero Volcanico is also very beautiful. Chanel periodically releases beautiful colorful versions of the liner in purple, blue and green! Legendary Green is one of my faves.
Thx for the info Karen!
Brows (usually Glossier Boy Brow) and concealer!
Always and ever–MASCARA. And some brow stuff. (I’m working through some Benefit ka-BROW! but can’t wait to try that Hourglass fiber gel!) Ah, the curse of gingery blonde lashes and eyebrows.
I don’t wear makeup every day, but if I do I always wear base, even if it’s just some tinted moisturizer. My main “concern” is redness, and I feel weird with my face being a drastically different color than my neck if I’m wearing eyeshadow or lipstick. Also blush. If I could only choose one category of non-base makeup to wear it’d be blush. Nothing else perks me up like it! I also always do my brows, even if it’s just a tinted gel, because my hair is very dark auburn (dyed) and my natural eyebrows are ashy mouse brown and I hate they way they clash. All I really need is a light base, some blush, and brows to feel more alive, but I do love being able to do fun eyeshadow and lipstick and things.
I would never skip mascara. Just thinking about it makes me itchy. Even at a water park or the beach, I’ll wear something waterproof. I should tightline but even my fave UD runs. I know the solution – get Chanel. 🙂
