This is one of those beauty no-nos I actually never do! Granted…there are other “beauty rules” I break all the time. 🙂 Like curling my lashes after applying mascara (GASP!) or skipping sunscreen (I know, I’m trying really hard to get better), but I’ve always been pretty good about washing my face and taking off my makeup before bed.
A big part of it is just convenience, because I shower at night before bed (even when we’re out and I get home late, I will ALWAYS, at a minimum, rinse off in the shower before I hop into bed), because if I feel yucky or dirty at all on any part of my body before I go to sleep, I’m very uncomfortable.
I have some friends who break this one all the time, though (it’s OK; no judgment!). Are you one of those gals/guys?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Saturday night. ? I didn’t even brush my teeth! Suddenly I was hit with a terrible headache and my energy crashed to zero so I fell into bed at 8:30pm. I didn’t even change into PJs! Fell asleep in my skirt. ? Thank goodness I had minimal makeup on, though.
I’m so happy I’m not the only one who can’t handle feeling dirty or gross when I get into bed!! I do the same thing!
Last time I did that was on our vacation in Valencia in March. I had caught my sons stomach bug and it kicked in when we were out to watch the midnight fireworks. After we got home all I could do was sleep/toilet/sleep/toilet for the whole night.
Last week when the baby fell asleep on me…
Like you, this is a beauty rule that I never break. I always brush my teeth and wash my face before bed. There may be a few times per year that I don’t floss before bed, but brushing and face washing are non-negotiable. 🙂
This is one of my WORST habits, and has been for years! I’m getting loads better, though – I finally picked up some micellar water a few weeks ago and have been much more regular about wiping off all the gunk before I hop under the covers. I love the feeling waking up with a clean face – and doing it more regularly has definitely helped to nurture that happy morning vibe. 7am me is always so grateful to 11pm me for doing the hard work of cleaning off all that clingy mascara, lol! That being said… I think the last time I got into bed without washing my makeup off was either Friday or Saturday night 😛 ha.
Pretty much never. Once, like five years ago, I got a little black out drunk at a friends place, but I still woke up a few hours later and washed my face! Ha ha. Even my drunk self knew. I also can’t sleep if I’m all sweaty and gross. Going to sleep squeaky clean is so nice!
I also cannot fall asleep feeling grimy. I have my little nighttime routine: wash face, remove contacts, brush teeth, and I very rarely stray from it!
Not sure I’ve ever done that. No matter how tired I am, I take my makeup off and wash my face and the apply my night moisturizer and oil. If I wore eye makeup to sleep I think my eyes would be fused shut when I tried to wake up in the morning!
I’m 62. I can count on one hand the number of times I have gone to bed with makeup on. And I have great skin!
I’m trying to be better about this. I’m maybe up to about 70/30 taking it off before bed.
#confessiontime I am better now, but I probably still get caught of not properly do it once a month or so :D. So give and take, last time would be a couple of weekends ago. Thank goodness for easy to use micelar water!
Uh, about 15 years ago I was out on a movie then dinner date with Dear Hubs. Somewhere near the end of the movie I came down with a sudden, massive migraine. We tried driving to the restaurant which was past our house, but as we got nearer the house I just begged to go home. I didn’t even look at sitter, I just ran to the bathroom, threw up and then crawled to the bedroom with the lights off. I might also have gone to sleep with makeup on while in college 40 years ago. But I only wore brow pencil, mascara and lip balm back then.
Never .
I keep an extra make up remover in the downstairs powder room and a face wash !
Not very often. I like the routine of washing off my makeup, putting on my night time skin care, take out the contacts, lay in bed and watch TV and/or some YouTube videos.
The feeling of taking your makeup off before bed (or even earlier!) to me is like the feeling you get when you take off your bra at the end of the day. Total relief and just a feeling of “Ahhhhhhhh!”
I just read a news article yesterday about how this lady had a habit of not taking off her mascara at night and would just sleep with it on and she did it for so many years that she got an eye infection and almost lost her sight! They showed a picture of the underneath of her eyelids and it was disgusting!
It’s been at least a decade! Maybe even my senior prom or somewhere around that.
I’d have to say that it was so long ago that I don’t even remember! Ever since I was told that your skin can age 11 days each time that you don’t wash off your makeup, I haven’t missed one day, no matter how tired I am…lol
I definitely prefer going to bed and waking up with a clean face!
I don’t think I’ve ever done this. When I was a teen I was really good about washing my face. I had acne and did everything possible to get rid of it. As an adult now I have rosacea, so I don’t mess around. The right cleansers/sensitive skin stuff must be used and I’m a contact lens wearer so I don’t want any eye infections. I’m with you Karen, shower/wash hair before bed, even when I’m out late at a concert or something. (ESPECIALLY when I’m at a concert, those things are so sweaty ugh!)
I really can’t remember, even when I’ve been sick I get up at strange hours just to take off my makeup; maybe a year ago when I truly felt awful.
So I blame Caroline Hirons for making ab obsessed with face cleansing.
Last Friday night! I crashed at my brother’s apartment and they only had Dial handsoap, so I figured leaving my foundation on would be the better option since I’d only actually applied the makeup at 6PM. Other than that, though, I really don’t ever not remove my makeup, even when I’ve come home after a few drinks or a party.
I have fallen asleep before removing my makeup, but for some reason I always wake up at unholy hours when I do. So I get up and remove my makeup at, like, 2 or 3am then go back to sleep.
