Don’t knock ’em ’till you try ’em, man! These flat platform sandals — otherwise known as “flatforms” — combine the comfort of a flat shoe with the height of a platform, so you get the extra lift without the achy arches and lower back pain from high heels.
Side note: I can’t believe I just wrote that because it was only a few years ago when I was living in high heels practically 24/7, but now I wear flats all teh time, and my bod feels better.
At first, I poo-pooed flatforms. I thought they looked like a Frankenstein-ian monster mashup of an espadrille and a wedge, but I kept seeing them on blogs and Instagram and thought, “Hey! Those are actually really cute.”
They’re the kind of shoe you almost have to see on someone else’s feet to appreciate them as fashionable footwear…instead of as a questionable science experiment.
And once you slip them on? Ahhhhh! All is right with the world…

I was this close to giving this pair of Bjorn flatforms (at the top) a happy home today. I slipped them on and proceeded to walk around the store for 10 minutes because I forgot I was wearing them! But that’s a good sign, right? When you forget to actually pay for a pair of shoes on your feet because they’re that comfortable? That’s usually a good sign…
In the end, though, I decided to wait because I’m picky about my straps, and this pair had one too many around the ankles. If I’m still pining for them on Friday, I might go back. We’ll see.
I also liked the look of the lighter brown MIA flatforms below, but the straps were a little too loose.

Cute though!

So many flatforms…

Have you tried flatforms? How do you feel about ’em?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I really like those Born ones on you, especially with that outfit! Lookin’ good Karen! And I think all the trips to DSW will imprint on Connor and she will be a future shoe freak!
She mostly just runs up and down the aisles and uses the mirrors to dance when we go there, LOL!
You won’t be surprised that I have never even heard of flatforms. I’m always comfort-first so, no objections here!
I can see you rocking these!
They would be a nice change from sneakers or my wardrobe of Teva-style sandals!! 🙂
OMG, TEVAS. (Although El Hub would applaud you for your practicality. He’s always saying my shoes are ridiculous, and since Tevas can be worn both on water and land, he’d give you mega props!)
We need to get you to DSW asap! ?
I didn’t know that there was a name for those sandals. I love a flatter wedge because I don’t feel like I am unbalanced. I also am picky about straps since my ankles are thick and too many straps make them even thicker.
So we made it through graduation. Only 7 more weeks until he is off to college!
OK, so ankle straps are a dealmaker or deal breaker for me! I’m so picky about my shoes and straps are a vital component. LOL
Girl, what are you going to do with yourself when he’s gone? Maybe look around now for a class to keep you busy?
I always thought the heel on most platforms is too high. I always wished they’d make a platform with a one to two inch heel instead of three to four inches. Looks like a flatform is right up my alley.
I’m in this situation where I rarely wear heels anymore, but I’m loathe to give away my pretty shoes. But I really ought to declutter my closet.
I feel you. I have several pairs of heels that I love but can’t bear to part with. My faves are the Jimmy Choos. I have two pairs that I never, ever wear. Maybe to a party if the occasion every comes up!
I have a pair of beige/taupe snake skin printed Jimmy Choos. Neutral, classic. I hardly ever wear them. And a couple pairs of Manolos, too. Sigh. At least some of my Manolos are flat sandals.
Cute sandals! I only wear comfortable shoes so these flat wedges sound like a great idea. I have a DSW close to me and I’m going to stop in to check these styles out. Baby girl is getting so tall!
Happy shopping, Denise. Hope you find something cute.
Being in the short category but also too old/parental/smart to keep wearing heels, I support this! I love these types of sandals, but lately I haven’t seen ones that are elegant rather than clunky and hippie. I don’t like the flat ones, but I do actually like the ones with a bit more support and gradual lift. I actually do like some of these and am going to check out DSW the next time I’m near one!
Let me know if you find any elegant ones, Miki!
I’m still in orthopedic shoes only 🙁 these are cute though!
