Now that we’re cocooned in our homes for the next few weeks (months?), chances are you’ve already participated, or will be soon, in plenty of virtual meetings.
The good news? You can easily skip wearing pants that day and nobody will be the wiser. ?
(Side note: I may or may not be wearing pants right now.)
The bad news? It’s sooooo not the same for makeup.
As anyone who’s ever stood in a self-checkout line at Target and looked at themselves on those terrible tiny security monitors knows, video is completely and unabashedly unforgiving. The Zoom video meeting is here, and it’s NOT playing, folks!
But that doesn’t mean you have to think, HOLY EFFING CRAP! IS THAT MY FACE FOR REALS!? every time you see yourself on camera.
There are simple things you can do with your makeup to perk up for your next meeting.
Here are my favorite ways to cheat the camera and look fresh and profesh on virtual visits!
1. Play with light by adding dimension to your cheekbones

One of the easiest ways to enhance your skin on screen is by adding dimension to it, and the easiest and quickest way to do that is with highlighter on the high points of your face. To catch the best light, dust a shimmery highlighter on your cheekbones and down the bridge of your nose in a tone that suits your skin.
2. Boost your blush

You can go heavier on the blush when you’re meeting virtually with colleagues, as the camera tends to wash out color, so turn it up a touch more than usual by applying an extra layer or two of your favorite peachy pink satin or matte blush to the apples of your cheeks.
3. Bold brows are your friend

There are times to skip filling in your brows… This isn’t one of them. When you’re on camera, brows, like blush, can easily fade into the background, so take the time to fill them in.
Pro tip: Use upward strokes with your brow pen or pencil to mimic the appearance of real brow hairs.
4. Make a statement

Last, but not least, incorporate one big statement element into your look, like by using a colorful lipstick or liner. I’m a fan of purple pencil myself.
The final look

Now you’re ready to handle anything that comes your way on your next virtual meeting. ??
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Love it!
Thanks, Sarah!
trying this in my next meeting!
I’m sure you’ll be the star of the show, Aditi!
I thought you were gonna blend everything til you got the the brows. Hahah thanks for the laugh today!
You’re welcome, Mary! Hope you have a nice day today.
People are gonna ask me if I’ve been isolating in Hawaii, I will look so good!
Thanks for the ? today.
That’s a power face indeed! Between the stache and the brows you would command the meeting. Power Face, No Pants!
#TeamNoPants, Jennifer!
Haha! Nice brows!
They frame the entire lewk!
omg I thought this was super serious at first and then I saw the purple stache and was like LOL ?
Ha! This totally made my day!

hahaha. April fool’s! You still look cute, though! <3
You might do better senz makeup.
Just the gray streakis perfect !
On another note, I appreciate you turning me onto Kate Somerville and now I have a new favorite: Paula’s Choice – I am using her; Azelaic Acid Booster, Triple Action Dark Spot Eraser, Skin perfecting 8%AHA gel exfoliant and Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment. They are game changers. especially the dark spot eraser (I have a lot of old acne scars that already look so much better). Love your look!
Thank you, Linda! I like Paula’s Choice (I use the BHA toner). Gonna look into those other items ASAP!
You never disappoint girl. Thanks for keeping in tradition! Just received my order with the Laura Mercier mascara btw.
Thanks for the laugh. You made my day.
Hahahaha you’re the best, Karen!! ❤️❤️ Happy April 1 ?
Annnnd happy April Fool’s to you too! Great post – needed the laugh!
Thank you for this!!!
You killed it with this look! Sheesh, here I was thinking how it’s always too dark for my Zoom meetings to pick up on my face, but this would totally make a statement!
Well this brightened my day. I would still like a tutorial on the look in the first photo, because that is how I’d like to look everyday. Polished, poised and elegant!
Funny that you should mention that makeup. I took pics of it and the products just in case somebody mentioned that they liked it! It took me about 10 minutes. 🙂 Maybe I can whip up a tutorial for ya here…
Oh, I would love that! It’s so pretty and polished.
This is SO GOOD.
LOL, I hope you wear it to your next work meeting! Along with your fun lip color, of course. 🙂
LOL!!! You are funny! I thought: what a coincidence that we had the same idea -but yours turned out to be much more effective than mine! Hahahaha! Thank you for a good laugh! ?
