Hi, guys! ? Got dry hair? GIRL. I feel you. ?? I went to Target last week because my ends have been feeling bone dry lately, and here’s what I picked up. I think you might like these things, too!
Lately when I get up in the morning, my first thought is, “What’s gonna happen today in this level of Jumanji?” Because seriously, life right now could pass for a crazy dangerous video game. Smoke-filled air from wildfires, ash falling from the sky, dusky twilight at 10am, economic crisis, a pandemic… If I stepped outside and saw a herd (flock?) of angry ostriches stampeding toward me, honestly, I would not be shocked.
Weird and unexpected things are happening almost daily, on both a large and small scale. In the category of “not a big deal in the larger scheme of things but still mildly concerning in my immediate world” is the current state of my hair.
It’s wicked dry!
Has your hair ever gone from pretty decent to crazy wicked dry in a matter of weeks? Something verrrry mysterious has sucked the moisture out of the ends of my mane, which has gone from relatively healthy (for someone who hasn’t cut it in over a year) to drier than horse hay.
My best Scooby Doo detective agency guess is that it has something to do with the smoke in the air, coupled with the stress from the wildfires and the virus the past few weeks. I’m also long overdue for a cut, and that’s not helping, either.
Anywho, I recently went to Target and picked up a few things that have helped with the dryness. If you have dry, thirsty hair, they might help you, too.
Two goodies by Hask
This first one is an old love, Hask Argan Oil Hair Mask ($2.49). When I reviewed this workhorse for dry hair last year, I said:
My hair feels silky soft, but not in the way that feels like your hair is coated in sedimentary layers of silicone… The tangles and knots are gone, and the obnoxious white ramen noodle flyaways in my hairline — which normally stick up at every unfortunate angle you can imagine — are relatively tame and smooth and lying in one direction (SAY WHAT?!).
Ya know what? It’s as fabulous as ever. Just as great as the $$$ masks at high-end lines like Kerastase.
I stretch one package out to use it twice. Depending on how thick your hair is, you should be able to get anywhere from 2-5 treatments, I think.
I also grabbed a bottle of the Argan Oil Repair shampoo by Hask ($5.99), although I’ve yet to try it. I’m hoping it’ll be just as good as the mask. It’s sulfate- and paraben- free.
A lightweight but rich hair serum with volume for days…
Now, onto Pantene, which is currently one of my favorite drugstore hair brands and has been ever since Rosewater Shampoo and Conditioner from the Nutrient Blends line came into my life. If you have unruly or dry hair that needs TLC, the Rosewater line is a gamechanger.
This time around, I grabbed a bottle of their Fortifying Damage Repair Overnight Repair Serum ($7.99), a rich, moisturizing serum for dry hair that doesn’t weigh it down (and therefore preserves your volume).
It feels like a thin, runny lotion, so it’s easy to work through your strands. Massage it through your mane, starting from the ends and working up, after you shampoo and condition, and let it air dry.
I’ve used it a few times so far, and I’m already in love because my ends are definitely a lot softer and smoother and less crunchy overall. I also love how bouncy my hair looks. I’ve been embracing my natural volume lately, and this definitely does not weigh it down.
It’s pronounced “oh-dell.”
Their Leave-In Conditioner ($11.99) and Air Dry Styler by the Odele ($11.99), which is a vegan cruelty free line only available at Target, are also new to me.
Confession time: I bought these two because I liked the font. LOL!
Speaking of fonts, I’m pretty sure that seeing Papyrus on the Hask Argan Oil Shampoo is slowly going to chip away at my soul every time I see it in the shower! ?
Gosh, I’m all over the place today… OK, technically, Odele is pronounced “oh-dell” (which is a phonetic translation of Norwegian for “to share”), but I keep wanting to call it “oh-dah-lay,” as in “Órale” in Spanish.
I am convinced I’m not the only person who wants to do this.
I’ve used both of these items once. After washing and conditioning, I did a few pumps of the Leave-in first, and then a few squeezes of the Air Dry Styler, which is essentially a soft-hold gel. Then I let my hair air dry. The result? Hella big, curly hair, but in the best possible way. I’m talking massive volume, and very defined curl separation. Good stuff!
I have a hunch that mixing the Serum into the Leave-in will be nothing short of epic, by the way. ?

I have the Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner Pack. I use it once a month, My hair loves it. Hask’s website says the pack should last 2-3 uses. With my thickness. I used my first pack twice. I though about trying the Argan one. So I will pick that one up as well. I would love to know how the shampoo works out.
I’ve tried the Keratin one and it’s great too. LOVE! I’ll use the shampoo tonight and get back to you. 🙂

I tried the Hask mask after I read your previous post. I think maybe I’m not using enough or not leaving it in long enough. It helps, but it wasn’t earth shattering in it’s results. Then again, I’ll probably get 6 to 10 uses they way I’m using it.
It’s been ages since I’ve used Pantene. Thanks for the heads up that there is new and improved stuff in the line. Willing to give it a try.
I never thought to associate my super dry, frizzled hair that is falling out with the wild fires and stress from the pandemic. You can seriously see my scalp now. Dear Husband even said I should do something about it. When I snapped back, “like what!!??” He replied, “Maybe try some Rogaine” ?
It’s 3pm and it’s as dark as just past sundown. I’m hoping for better air tomorrow.
OK, so I think the trick with the Hask Mask is to really coat your hair. Like put an obnoxious amount in it. And then hang out for at least 5, maybe even 10 minutes.
I’m sorry to hear about your hair and your scalp. 🙁 My friend and former stylist (before she moved!) Alis has been doing hair for a really long time and she says that her clients who take Viviscal vitamins see visible improvement. Have you tried them? I know several people who swear by them.
I’ll have to try Viviscal. A while back I tried Halo Beauty hair, skin and nails. Helped my nails, skin was ok, but did nothing for my hair. Thanks for the tip.
Just wanted to let you know I used one of my Hask masks again. After I put some in my hair I doubled the amount and let it sit. I worked better. Thanks for the tip. I think I wasn’t using enough. I have three of them, the Argan Oil, the Coconut Oil and the Keratin one. Of the three, the coconut one leaves my hair the silkiest. Thanks again! Hope the air is getting better in the north bay. I’ve heard tomorrow is supposed to be better.

Believe it or not there’s an actual patch of blue sky above me right now, and we were even able to go outside. There wasn’t any ash floating in the air today, and so Connor met up with a buddy and they had a play date outside — their first in a good week (they usually see each other every other day).

Lol about the Papyrus font! Have you ever watched the SNL skit with Ryan Gosling about that font? It’s hilarious! Anyways I do like that hair mask. It has suddenly gotten quite cool here and I have noticed more dryness in my hair and skin; I’ve been switching to my thicker balms and body creams already!
Thank you for the product recommendations. I’ll have to check them out next time I’m at Target. My hair has been really dry as well. Plus it’s frizzy. Lately styling it has driven me crazy combing out the tangles! Let us know what you think of the Hask Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner. ?
My God, this is why I love you. I was like “RIGHT??!!!” with your font comments. Some product choices are just tragic. HAHA! I haven’t noticed increased dryness since I stopped blow drying, but in the last couple of weeks I’m seeing diminished curl. I am planning to get a trim before October so I think maybe adding a few more layers will help. Fingers crossed. I’m very interested in the Odele Air Dry – does it dry soft or is it crunchy and needing a scrunch or finger comb once dry? I think I got the Oh-dell because of Adele and we’re close to French speaking QC so are pretty used to thinking of everything with French pronunciations. 🙂
I have the Air Dry in my hair right now! It dries soft without any crunchiness. It’s basically a very thin gel with flexible hold and BOMB definition! It’s also supposed to be unisex so don’t be surprised if the dudes in your life with curly hair want to give it a try!
That air-dry thing sounds amazing. I had a HASK conditioner a while back that I think I liked, I can’t remember why I didn’t repurchase. Probably got distracted by other stuff.
