Fall smoky eyes are on my mind, and so while I was looking through my MAC eyeshadow stash for browns, I realized that a couple of my staples have sadly been discontinued. Brown Down and Bamboo, I will always love you!
I’m also in perpetual mourning over my favorite waterproof mascara, Urban Decay Cannonball. I have two tubes left, and I’m cherishing every last swipe.

I was upset when Bobbi Brown discontinued my two favorite base products, the Moisture Rich Foundation and the Extra Tinted Balm, but it has introduced me to some other brands. I still have not found the perfect replacement for the foundation yet, but I’m getting close. It’s their loss.

Me too! The Exta moisturizing balm just can’t be replaced. Why do they discontinue the most popular products sigh…
NARS Cyprus eyeshadow. Chanel Glow lipgloss. It was SOOOOO good. It was the one they used on Gossip Girl. I used to work for Chanel at the time and it had a completely different formula than the rest of the glosses.
I sound like a broken record: MAC Hyperreal Foundation (not the highlighter fluid). It was soooooooo goooooood. Why hasn’t anyone else made a hint-of-iridescent medium coverage foundation??
Urban Decay also had an amazing lip gloss shade in “Rocket.” I’ve been looking for years but haven’t found a replacement that comes close; it was a coral-peach-sliiiiiight-shimmer that you could wear with a nude lip pencil and your lips looked plump with a shiny pout that wasn’t glittery. I even wore it on stage, which is how nice it featured the lips without actual color (my fellow performers always insisted on red lipstick for the stage but I never followed that mandate).
I have to make an effort to not get sucked into the news. The headlines just literally make me cry so I self-soothe with lots of animal YouTube videos. Hope you’re doing okay today!
I really miss MAC’s lipstick in Sandy B. no dupe and they’re not bringing it back. Too many Chanel products to mention but the natural beige and natural pink nail polishes will forever be missed.
Revlon colorburst lip gloss in Bordeaux. It was a comfortable, non-sticky formula and this color really brightened my whole face. I repurchased for years and I don’t use up many lip products!
Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion! The Clarifying Lotion 1.0 they replaced it with burned my skin.
Also Chanel Stylo Yeux in Khaki Précieux.
That toner was THE STUFF. I wish I stockpiled more bottles!
I miss the Tom Ford cream eye shadow in Escapade. I fear there will never ever be a better and more perfect peach beige colour for my eyelids. The other much missed is also a cream eyeshadow by a more brown-grey by Chanel called Mirage. I will look for replacements until I am too old to put eye makeup on myself!!! I promise to find something someday … or maybe they will be brought back. One can always hope so.
I’m on my last tube of the MAC High Tea lipstick, and I’m going to miss it so, so much when I use it up.
I also really miss the Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm. It used to be my go-to base product in the spring and summer because I could just smooth it on with my fingers and go. It had medium coverage, a satin finish that somehow didn’t melt off my oily skin, and it had SPF! I haven’t found a BB cream that compares to it. Sigh.
I remember that balm. It was GOOD! And the shade range was decent too.
I miss the StyleLink Air Dry Twisted Boho curl cream. Nothing else works the same for my hair, no matter how many products I buy!
Nars Madly blush, Mac Freckletone lipstick, Mac Sincere blush.
Mac Next to Nothing foundation. It evened out my skin, felt like nothing on my skin, and wore well. I have been looking for a dupe for years. No luck .
That was a good one! I didn’t realize they discontinued it; it wasn’t on shelves for long!
I’ve worn makeup for about sixty-five years now and can honestly say that I don’t miss anything. There’s always something new on the horizon and so I just don’t feel any regret when something is discontinued. I’ve seen so many trends come and go and come and go yet again. And, each time they come around again, the products have changed for the better. I use up the products I enjoy, I don’t buy backups, and when they’re gone, they’re gone—no regrets.
MAC Indianwood paint pot. There’s nothing quite like it. *sigh*
I use this every day and didn’t know it was discontinued! That sucks… I love MAC Paint Pots.
Oh no!!! Hate to be the bearer of bad news. They kept a bunch of the other shades when they reformulated – and even added a bunch of new ones. But alas, no Indianwood. And she was my fave. I have one last unused one. I’m teaching in a mask again this year, and she’s about to get a lotta love. Mask-induced sweaty eyelids are NOT cute.
Mac lustre lipstick in Orchidstrate. Why didn’t I buy more tubes!?! ❤

*BH Cosmetics Waterproof Lip Liners. And they even more recently discontinued their Naturally Flawless Foundation.
*The MUFE Artist Shadows (the formula before the current Artist Color Shadow).
*Almost everything Urban Decay. Most recently, Sheer Rapture Vice Lipstick. I’m glad I brought backups.
*Elizabeth and James fragrances. (Again, I’m glad I bought backups.)
*Lady Gaga Fame Black Fluid fragrance. (I’m on my last backup. 😥 )
*OCC Lip Tars.
I didn’t buy any of the lip glosses or liquid lipsticks from Revlon’s Ultra HD line until they’d already been discontinued-all that’s left is the liquid lipsticks-because I was paralyzed with indecision, and when I did finally buy them, I was only able to get a few shades. I wish Revlon would bring them back.
Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick in Bruise is my favorite lipstick of all time! I am down to my last tube😥😮😥😮!!! Urban Decay always discontinues the good stuff. I really loved the Afterglow Blushes (Fetish) and the Naked Foundation they discontinued.
Two things that I still mourn numerous years after they’ve been discontinued are Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in Amant and Dior Capture Totale loose face powder. After years of searching I finally found a worthy successor for the face powder last year (the Rose colour in the By Terry Hydra Powder) and one of the newest shades of the Chanel Rouge Allure Laque is very close to Amant. It’s taken years of searching and hoping!!
Bonnie Bell sheer gel bronzer, it made my skin look fantastic! I’m always always looking for a substitute…
Oh! One more, those double ended Tarte lipglosses, each end named after half of a famous couple, remember those? Those were the best.

Smashbox waterproof kohl liner/shadow in Bronze. I have dark Auburn hair but am very pale with green eyes so darker browns and blacks are too harsh. That was a perfect gold-flecked shade. Mad Hippie makes a gold/brown liner which I really like but it won’t work as a shadow like the Smashbox one would.
Not makeup, but the Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Exfoliant. It is still available in the US, but in the EU now has to be sold as Glycolic Acid version and it just isn’t the same.
Laura Mercier Flawless Fluide foundation. In Buff. Honestly the best foundation ever for my skin.
Urban Decay Sheer Ladyflower lipstick. MLBB nothing comes close.
