Truth be told, there are always so many products I “need” (air quotes, very loosely added), but at this current moment, my mission is to find some new cream shadows that rock my world.
This is my imperative. 🤭
As part of this very important mission, I went to Ulta yesterday, you know…to conduct recon, since the testers are available to swatch again.
Side note: this freaked me out a little because it’s been a long time, and while there’s no way I plan to apply any makeup from testers on my actual face any time soon, seeing how products move and look on skin really does help to get a feel for them, which is why I swatched a few colors that caught my eye.
I’m still deep in the research phase of the operation, but I have the Amber and Greige shades from the Smashbox Always On Cream Shadow line on my list. They remind me a little of the old-school MAC Paints (RIP).

Along with cream shadow, I’m also looking for a moisturizing sunscreen (I figure I’ll need some heavy-duty face and body ones for the fall and winter), a lightweight hair oil and a dark burgundy nail polish with a cream finish.
Shh! Quiet. Don’t give away your location. We must be stealthy to have a good hunt. 🤫
What beauty products are you currently hunting?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

These are lovely! I did not know that they were allowing swatching in store again. It’s going to be strange to touch products again, but good in that we can get a better idea of colors and textures. (This reminds me of a palette I purchased based on the in-store display which was tightly covered in plastic wrap. When I got home with it, the cool palette turned out to be surprisingly warm, and remains untouched. Ugh.)
Oh, quick note — typo of Smashbox above swatch pics.
Hope you’re having a good day.
Thanks, Susan! Must be the tears I had in my eyes after I dropped Connor off at kinder!
You know I always pick the non-makeup thing, but is that a sweater?! HAHA! It’s been so warm and humid here that I’m quite jealous of your sweater. 🙂
PS Boy delivered to college and we all survived. Yay!
Oh my goodness! It really is happening. I’m so happy to hear he made it there. How are you doing?!
P.S. Yes, it’s a sweater. Mostly for wearing indoors when the air conditioning is too cool!
We’re all good – I actually just got a call from him after asking if his thumbs were broken (and if he wanted them to be; just kidding CPS). He is settling in and has some HS friends there, which is awesome. I reminded him if he doesn’t text back, I’ll be calling and facetiming and he doesn’t want THAT. 😉 Fingers crossed he’ll be getting some school work done. Classes start on Monday. That’s the part I’m dreading most. We were there with him for 2 days doing the move-in and parent orientation, so I think that helped us all, too.
Sweater weather is right around the corner!!
Well now I’m looking for those Smashbox cream shadows, lol. As for the lightweight hair oil, try Biosilk. (Found in salons.) They have regular, which is already light, and also a light formula.
I used to use and love Biosilk back in the day! I’m hoping to find a spray oil. The one I have by R+Co is on its last legs, and while I like it a lot, I’m getting itchy to try something new.
I’m currently hunting gel and cream bronzers, subtle shimmer, matte, sheer… I’m flexible.
I’ve ALSO been interested in cream shadows! Not sparkly and not something that’ll slide all over the place either.
And, maybe this only exists in my imagination, but perhaps a cool locket or screw top pendant full of lip gloss??
I’m not hunting really hard but looking for a better mascara that won’t smear or irritate my eyes (currently using Clinique’s waterproof mascara) and some fun eyeliners that won’t irritate my eyes to switch up from just liquid liners.
A black felt tip liner that won’t fade over the course of the day. And a brick red lipstick for fall with a satin finish.
The Uzu Eye Opening Liner stays put fo sho.
I’m so glad the testers are back too! Like you, I won’t be applying to my face (!) and will wash hands well before & after, but it’s so nice to be able to get a feel for the texture and finish of a product!
I have a sunscreen rec for you! Black Girl Sunscreen sold at Target is fabulous – super moisturizing, feels lovely, no white cast, not sticky/tacky. I usually buy the kids version in the white and yellow tube, but the adult version in the black tube works just as well. Plus, yay for supporting Black-owned businesses! Give it a try! 🙂
Nail polish rec – the new Essie Expressie line. It’s #260 Breaking the Bold. It’s not a cream, but the shimmer is ultra fine so the polish doesn’t look flat. I love the burgundy color so much that I bought a second bottle as back up. Been using with the Essie Gel Couture top coat and it lasts for 5-6 days no chips.
I am hunting wearable non creasing glitter cream eyeshadows – if they exist 😉
Metallic eyeshadow does not suit me and usually I dread glitter, but somehow I fantasize about a glitter glimmering eye at the moment…
