The bounty of produce being gifted to me by my neighbors continues! Check out these beans…

What does one do with purple beans? I’m thinking of roasting them, but I dunno. A heat wave is coming in, and I don’t fancy turning my oven on when it’s boiling outside.
Oh, remember that massive head of cabbage my other neighbor gave me last weekend? I ended up making cabbage rolls with ground beef, rice and parsley.
This was my first time, and they turned out OK!

I found the recipe on the Jenny Jones cooking blog. Remember Jenny Jones, the talk show host from the 90s? A few years ago she was active on YouTube and did a whole bunch of cooking videos, and they’re fun to watch. It’s been years since she’s posted, though.
Jenny Jones fun fact: before she rose to fame, she owned her own catering business.
I’ve tried two recipes from her site so far, the cabbage rolls and a 20-minute meal called spaghetti with cherry tomatoes, both of which were light, easy and excellent.
Back to the cabbage rolls. Jenny says they’re great as leftovers the next day and suggests frying them in a pan with a little bit of olive oil. That’s what I’m gonna have for lunch today. YUM!
On a beauty note, the tweed quads are up on the Chanel website. The one with browns, taupes and rosy shades, Brun et Rose, looks really lovely.

There’s also new nude nail polishes that look good, too. I don’t know what it is about Chanel, but they do such a good job of hitting all the right notes when it comes to neutrals and basics. UGH, WANT.
What else is going on, hmmm? Oh, forgive me for living underneath a rock, but I’ve only recently discovered the singer Harry Styles.
I’ve been listening to a random assortment of his music, and these are the two songs I’ve had on repeat.
Sometimes he reminds me of Prince and sometimes he sounds like the band Phoenix; it’s hard to pin his genre down. If you get a moment give his songs a listen.
Alright, I’m off to start my day. I hope you’ve had a wonderful week so far! Did you wake up this morning just as surprised as I was to find out that it was Thursday? Yes? No? Whatever you’re up to today, I hope you find a way to find joy in your tasks — even the mundane ones.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Those beans are so pretty! I like mine blanched, might not heat up the kitchen as much that way too!
Do you think they’ll keep the purple color if I blanche them? Don’t ask me why this is suddenly so important to me. LOL
I don’t think so – green beans get even brighter green when you blanch them! But the purple pigment could be different – hmm now my science brain is turned on!
I remember reading an article on purple carrots, and how groceries eventually phased out purple carrots for the orange ones because people didn’t like how the purple would bleed into their food. My first guess it that it’s the same for beans, but the structure of the vegetable is different, so it might not, hmm!
The purple beans turn green when cooked – not nearly as pretty, but they still taste good with a little butter, salt & pepper and I like to squeeze fresh lemon on mine.
Sounds yummy!
Nice! We found some surprise tomatoes at the new house. I can’t wait until I’m allowed to start chewing food again next week.
I love Harry Styles!
I’m picking up some office furniture from Facebook marketplace today, so I’m pretty excited about that.
Surprise tomatoes — I LOVE IT!
I bet everything you eat next week is going to taste glorious. Glad to hear you are on the mend.
Do you have any Harry Styles song to recommend?
Some of my favorites are Falling, Adore You, Late Night Talking, Grape juice, and Golden. He also does a cover of Girl Crush that’s really good.
When someone gives me cabbage, I make fish tacos.
Just eat those purple beans raw. Or steam them and dip them into some ranch or some wasabi and soy.
Hmm, steaming sounds easy!
You never were a fan of ONE DIRECTION and the rest of Harry’s buddies?
Talk about under a rock . . .
Karen, those cabbage rolls look so good!! I’ll be right over!! LOL!!
Those veggies look yummy! You have very nice neighbors!
The SA from my local Nordstrom Chanel counter texted me last week. They had the testers under the counter and I got to swatch them on Tuesday. Ended up pre-ordering Brun et Rose. I was tempted by the 01 quad too, but decided I just didn’t want to go that warm. Will pick it up today in between grocery shopping and going to airport to get Dear Husband.
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
Cabbage rolls are delicious, I don’t know when I made them the last time though.
Your neighbors seem to have a good hand for gardening.
I was with Jennifer and the “eat them raw” comment. They’d be really pretty in a salad. 🙂 I can one up you on Harry Styles, which I know won’t surprise you. I haven’t listened to much pop since the boys were young but happened to catch one of his songs on the radio and thought “is this Justin Bieber?”. Luckily, I was enlightened by the digital display in my car that now helpfully shows title and artist. I then thought, “Harry Styles… hmmm… I think he was in some boy band. The Jonas Brothers? Oh, of course not. Styles. Not Jonas”. HAHA! One of my kids told me it was One Direction, so your rock is much more shallow than mine! The last boy bands I was very familiar with were the Backstreet Boys and ‘NSYNC, and I was never a big fan of either. 🙂 Have a wonderful, long weekend, my friend!
