1. It’s nostalgic.
Well, it’s nostalgic for me, at least, LOL! Shiny, sparkly tubes take me back to my 20s, when I was living in San Francisco and rotating between MAC Lychee Luxe (a recommendation from my mom), MAC Nymphette and MAC Spite.
2. It’s joyful and fun.
What is it about that glossy, mirror shine? It’s so carefree, like the complete opposite of matte lipstick, which to me feels formal and serious.
3. It’s easy to apply!
Talk about no-brainer application, especially with certain shades which I can swipe on without much thought (gotta save my brain for adulting these days).
For me those shades are peachy pinks with shimmer, like the gloss I’ve been wearing lately, Saint Jane Luxury Lip Shine in Nectar. I grab it before hopping on a video call (which I’m about to do in five minutes), or when I’m standing in my hallway and don’t have a mirror, or when I’m just sitting in the car at afternoon school pickup and need a little something-something.
Gloss is always there for me, and it never asks for too much effort. I think this is the main reason why I love it so much!
Do you have a gloss you love, or a gloss shade with good memories attached to it?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. This morning it was chilly enough to wear a sweater! I can’t tell you how thrilling it is to wear long sleeves, ha ha ha!

I’ve never been a gloss lover because I can’t find one that isn’t sticky. I just bought a very Fall-ish Ilia gloss balm, though, so I’m hoping for good things with that.
Yay for long sleeves! It’s not that nice here, but it is a little better than it has been. The humidity is lower and that’s a big deal.
Hi Suzanne,
I have one of the Ilia Balm Glosses; it’s lovely! What shade did you get? The one I wear is called Tahiti, and it’s coral.
I got Only You, a slightly brownish pink. I’m wearing it now over a NARS Velvet Matte Pencil (the pink-brown Bahama shade). It feels good- no stickiness and a little sheen without being super shiny.
I’m on the hunt for the ‘perfect’ Fall nude lip, which is harder than it sounds for someone so pale, lol. It’s down to the Bahama/Only You combo or the classic Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Medium.
I am currently loving my GXVE by Gwen Stefani lip gloss in Candy which is a neutral lilac (sparkly/shiny but has really good staying power without being sticky). My nostalgia gloss is the Bonne Bell Lip Smackers (I wore Dr. Pepper and Orange Crush a LOT).
Karen – OMGosh you are so on point with the memories of MAC glosses Nymphette and late Ooh Baby were and are so fun and pretty. I sometime them on top or in the middle parts of My upper and lower lips for a bit of punch especially wearing wearing a nude colour.
Fenty makes nice ones too called Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer and the original one is Fenty Glow in light pink is great for everyday and anywhere. I also like Fu$$y which has shimmer and is light pinky and Hot Chocolit was a new one I tried this year it’s pretty too. They last ages – my original Fenty Glow is over two years old and smells great still not stale and works the same as it originally did.
Your post made me smile big like a kid thinking about the old days of MAC lip glasses and just how fun shiny gloss can be. Thank you for that moment.
P.S. what Bronzer are you wearing in the photo at the start of the post. It is perfect for you!
Hi Vita,
Thanks for noticing! I did something different yesterday; I layered Chanel Les Beiges cream stick blush in No. 20 with MAC Give Me Sun MSF Powder. Then I blended Chanel Malice blush on top!
I have never been much of gloss wearer, when I got into makeup the formulas were way too sticky and then I had already lost my heart to satin lipsticks, so I never really wore them.
