Connor’s first dance competition is now officially on the books.
The girls did great last Saturday! Although I don’t understand anything about how the teams were ranked and scored, I do know that when Connor’s team got called, the faces of the girls reflected pure joy.

Oh, and I have to say, I was kinda surprised (but also not) when I saw Connor leap up to claim the team trophy on stage, LOL!

On the makeup front, I’m happy to report that NARS Dragon Girl lasted most of the day, and hung on until the early afternoon. I could’ve touched up her lips right before they went on stage, but I skipped it as she still had enough pigment on. Seriously, this matte red is a classic for a reason. Grab it if you don’t have it already.

Because it was raining and I knew we were in for a long day, I actually didn’t wear a lot of makeup to the competition on Saturday, although if I did go full on, I I probably wouldn’t been right at home with all the lewks the ladies were serving.
One team had at least 20 girls rockin’ a full beat—big lashes, bright lips, cut creases paired with wings so big they could take off at any moment. You get the picture. And don’t even get me started on the hair! There were many big and elaborate styles. I couldn’t help but wonder if certain teams hired on-site glam professionals to get everyone ready.
If I wasn’t so preoccupied with trying to keep track of my child, I would’ve taken more pictures to appreciate all the artistry. Next time, perhaps.
One last thing re: makeup. Just in case Connor wanted to wear something more than lipstick, I brought “emergency” blush and glitter with me in my bag, but I think I was hoping for too much, LOL!
Anywho, it’s cold and rainy today again here in the Bay Area, and even though I haven’t seen the sun in days, out of sheer habit I put on sunscreen first thing in the morning.
Lately I’ve been into BSG Kids because I like how it doesn’t leave a film on my skin and layers well with all my lotions and potions and whatnot. If you haven’t tried this one yet for your face and neck, grab it! It’s affordable and comfortable. Looks great under makeup, too.

I’m off to chug another mug of green tea. (Did I mention how cold it is here?) Later on this afternoon, I’m going to attempt minestrone soup! Here’s the recipe I’m going to use in case you want to check it out. Seems easy enough.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

What beautiful girls! I especially love the gap-toothed smiles of the girls who have lost some teeth, so cute! I may try that minestrone recipe, I made some chicken broth on Sunday and I need a recipe to use it in. I’m mostly vegetarian/pescatarian, but I buy rotisserie chickens for the girls because it’s a nice and easy protein for them, so I don’t let the carcasses go to waste!
Me too. Connor’s pumpkin smile is filling in and I will certainly miss it when it’s gone. LMK how your soup turns out!
Awww the girls are adorable. You’re rocking it there, Dance Competition Mom 🙂 I’ve never tried NARS Dragon Girl but now I’m curious. *Hug* hope the green tea is keeping you warm. Have a nice day!
I think it would look amazing on you! It’s one of those easy reds to apply because of the crayon shape. I also bought the NARS sharpener, too, because why not?
What happy faces! The girls look so cute. They look like they had a fun and memorable time!
I got my minestrone recipe from my college roommate from her mother-in-law. Almost same ingredients, proportions are a bit different because she only calls for a quart of chicken stock. And instead of green beans she has two zucchini quartered length wise and then sliced. And she adds up to half a cup of cream for richness at the end. I hope you enjoy your yummy soup.
BTW, is it windy as heck up your way too? My girlfriend doesn’t have power and on the way home I saw a huge oak tree that had fallen and crushed half of a one story house. I hope everyone was OK there.
BTW, was the dance competition held in Redwood City? Or is there a Sequoia High School up your way, too?
YES! It was a loooong drive in the rain. Redwood City is super cute! And that high school is huge.
I wish I had known, I could have come by to cheer the girls on and to give Mom some mom support!
Oh, I would’ve loved that. Next time we’re there for an event we can meet for lunch! 🙂 I’m sure there will be plenty more dance things in the future!
Redwood City seems like a cute town, and the neighborhood by the high school seemed very charming.
I ended up going to Trader Joe’s after this to get zucchini to put in my soup, ha ha ha!
I’m glad they’re happy! That’s what’s important.
They could never get me to wear makeup for costumes and stuff growing up, but I never did dance (the only dance teacher in my small town was mean and also I have zero coordination)
They were so happy! I think they were mostly stoked about getting special pins for their team jackets. LOL!
Y’all are precious as twins in your Dragon Girl. Congrats to Connor and her team for a great performance.
For long-wear, especially for something active like dance, I haven’t found anything better than the Sephora brand cream lip stain. I have Always. Red, a true neutral 1950’s red. It says “matte” but it’s not drying imho.
Ooh, I’ll have to try that shade, Virginia! I hope they have it when I stop by Sephora. Lately whenever I pop in they never have what I want/need!
So cute!
Karen,
I’ve missed your emails….I used to get them and I thought of you and Tabbs and I am so happy you are still here. Not sure what the emails stopped but so happy I found you again.
Yay, Connor! That is so exciting, and she must have been thrilled to get the team trophy. 🙂 I think it would take me a minute to get used to all the glam, but I have no doubt it smells better than hockey equipment. HAHA!
She’s just too cute! I can’t believe how much she’s grown. ❤️ I’m loving Neutrogena hydro boost with SPF 50, with my two kids 5 and under I like a good combo product in the morning. 😁
I’m totally putting it on my list!
