As adventurous as I’d like to think I am when it comes to hair, I don’t think I’ve actually allowed a stylist to just go in there and do whatever they wanted. Perhaps having so many terrible haircuts over the years has made visiting the salon feel like an unpredictable outing in the wild west, ha ha ha!
While I love the idea of letting a professional execute their vision of my mane, I don’t think I could ever be that brave.
I applaud the gals/guys who can throw caution to the wind and let the hair goddesses do what they will.
Have you ever done this? I’m dying to know how it turned out! Fingers crossed that it was good.

Yes! It didn’t turn out as I was expecting, though. I said, “do whatever you want, it’ll grow out”. She looked at me like a deer caught in headlights. She kind of stumbled around for words and ended up, all she did was trim it & kept it in the same boring cut I had before.

WOW and you’re so brave! I think perhaps it might’ve turned out differently if you went to someone completely new?
I have gone to the same stylist for 15 plus years. Ten years ago she suggested a new cut. Although I was hesitant, I needed a “refresh”. She brought out my natural curl and I have worn it that way since then. I trusted her then and still trust her now.
Well I’m at the salon as we speak! But no, I can’t give over that kind of control. I do appreciate that my stylist makes suggestions. He’s good about showing me pictures and explaining what he could tweak. Honestly it’s been a while since I’ve made any major hair changes. And not likely to happen today!
Yes, twice. Once when I first moved to SF I had an indie stylist in an industrial space south of Market. This was 35 years ago to give you an idea of the space and the neighborhood. Lol. She suggested cutting my hair short and said with my fair coloring I’d look good as a redhead. I left the office Friday as a brunette with shoulder length hair and came back on Monday a redhead with a pixie. I loved it. Met Dear Husband shortly after that and he said my hair was one of the things that attracted him to me.
Second, after I was married and had Dear Daughter, I had a dear stylist at Vidal Sassoon. He looked at me one day and said, “I keep giving you this same, boring “mom bob” and I suspect this really isn’t who you really are. Can I do something new? Do you trust me?” I trusted him and let him transform me. I was really sorry when he started having back problems and had to stop working. For a while he cut my hair in his apartment, but even that go to be too much for him.
As long as I told them I want a short cut and lots of layers, yes, I have.

Except for one very brief period of time back in the 60’s, I’ve always worn my hair long and am adept at styling it and keeping it in good condition. In the 60’s; however, I was ready to shake things up and went to a salon in Beverly Hills for one of those geometric bobs that V. Sassoon was popularizing. I told the stylist to do whatever he thought would suit my bone structure and the natural color of my hair (deep espresso) and he did! 😃 It was a stunning and dramatic cut, but it required constant trimming to maintain the beautiful shape. Being a full time college student with a part time job, I just didn’t have the time—or the money—to keep it up.
