Ooh, how lovely it is to see the thick, substantial September issue of “Vogue!”
Remember when they were all like that? I miss the days when I could curl up on the couch and just read magazines all day long, sigh.
Anywho, I was excited to see the “Supers” together on the cover. I love the hair, makeup and styling, and I’d wear Linda’s sequin jacket in a heartbeat!
I wonder if they had fun reminiscing about the ’90s, and if anybody gave Naomi crap about throwing a phone at anyone. Remember that?
On the beauty front, I was grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s earlier this week for dinner ingredients (I made salmon on Monday and ground beef and broccoli on Tuesday) when a couple things in the things beauty section caught my eye — a firming body lotion and a co-wash.
The Vitamin C Firming Body Butter speaks to me mostly because of the glycolic acid; I don’t really care about the firming part, but I could always use extra exfoliation.

So far, so good. The texture is thick and rich but not greasy, and the clementine scent is cheerful. A big 8-ounce tube is very affordable at just $6.99.
Speaking of good deals, this 8-ounce tube of Cleansing & Conditioning Hair Wash is only $4.99.

It’s a non-foaming co-wash with a delicate grapefruit and mint scent. If you’re living that “free of” hair life, FYI, this one has no sulfates, silicones, detergents or parabens.
I like it! I used it on second-day janky roots and was impressed by how clean my strands and scalp felt. I woke up the next morning with bouncy, soft hair.
Oh, not that I needed another base, but I was running errands at CVS and saw the Maybelline Skin Tint that’s making the rounds. I totally caved and bought a bottle, ha ha ha!
There’s a decent range of shades, and I ended up with 312, a medium tan with warm undertones.

Side note, I was at CVS because I wanted to buy some Hallmark cards. Shopping there always makes me nostalgic for the days when you could easily visit a Hallmark store to browse cards, tchotchkes and gifts and whatnot. In the Bay Area, Hallmark stores not as popular as they used to be. Do you live in a town that still has one?
Anywho, that’s what’s been going on this week so far on this side of the keyboard.
How are things on your end? Have you tried any new beauty products this week?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love Hallmark! I live in the Midwest so it seems like they’re still a thing here, and yes, there is one in my town. (No Sephora to speak of, however!) They have the best and funniest cards for sure. My Hallmark store is kind of like a little gift shop. They have Hallmark brand things of course, but also cute little candles, bags, socks, scarves and jewelry from small designers and brands. It would be fun to work there and be the buyer for what your store is going to carry. One last thing about Hallmark, my mom has always been obsessed with their Christmas ornaments and one day my girls and I will inherit her collection! I have fond memories of decorating the tree with her!
Aww, I love that! It’s going to be so special and meaningful for the girls (and maybe their girls, too).
I loved going to the Hallmark store and finding gifts for people. There was something so soothing and sweet about it. 🙂
Hope things on your end are great!
My brother and sister-in-law live in Kansas City, home to Hallmark. We’ve toured there and they even have a bow making machine on display. I always love the holiday paper and bows my sister-in-law uses. Wish Hallmark was easier to find out this way.
The Supers!! I’ve been trying to find a September issue but it seems all the magazine stands are gone in this town. I always loved how Linda changed her hair on a whim. I have to admit she was an inspiration every time I made a drastic change in cut or color.
If it wasn’t so hot today, I’d walk over to TJ’s to check those products out.
I would probably go crazy over the bow machine. 😀 I remember when there were multiple Hallmark stores within driving distance back in the day! There was even one in the closest shopping center, just a few doors down from the Alpha Beta Market.
Anywho, it’s *SO* hot today! I was supposed to run some errands for Connor’s class, but I took one step outside and was like, “Nope! It can all wait until tomorrow.” Hopefully you can visit TJ’s tomorrow because it’s supposed to cool down a little bit.
I worked at a Hallmark store in my neighborhood in LA when I was in college. There was a very specific way of organizing those cards lol. I remember I dreaded blowing up balloons for customers because I would always pop one or two, and I eventually quit to work at the toy store down the street instead. I think I still have a stash of stickers from that job somewhere in the garage!
I thought there were 3 left here. But to my surprise there are actually 8 Hallmark stores still left in the metro area. I need to visit a few this holiday season. I do miss when they were easier to find.
I am back to reading your blog after a few years break and I love the content and your salt and pepper hair has inspired me to figure out how to stop coloring my grays!
