My BFF Cindy likes to tell the story of the time she caught her grandma watching music videos on BET. Grandma, an older Chinese woman, doesn’t speak a lick of English and looked a little confused by 112’s Peaches and Cream.
Whether it was the gyrating women in booty shorts or the slow-mo scenes of milk pouring over ripe peaches, we’ll never know, but we think she may have thought she was watching a commercial for fruit. 🙂
To this day, whenever I hear the song or see peachy makeup like Chanel’s Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Fresque, I think of grandma…
This morning I spent some time with the blush ($42), released with Chanel’s Venice fall 2009 collection, while bumping some Peaches and Cream.
Is that a duochrome?
At first I thought Fresque looked like a pretty standard peachy blush, but something unusual happened once I got her on my skin.

The color kept changing, flashing through peach, coral and purple in the light. 🙂
The effect kinda reminds me of a subtler version of MAC’s Duochrome Eyeshadows…
Delicate finish
In terms of finish, Fresque is like the hybrid love child of a shimmery highlighter and a sheer, matte blush. It applies as a delicate sheen with an understated glow, a lot like MAC’s Beauty Powders.
Layer like cra-zaaay!
If you prefer vibrantly pigmented blushes, then Fresque might not be your cup of tea; it applies *very* sheer. I find I need to use at least four layers to get the color to show on my cheeks, and it even applies sheer on lighter NW20 skin, too.

I like Fresque’s duochrome color and subtle glowy finish, but $42 isn’t cheap, especially when a MAC Beauty Powder costs about half the price.
Still, it’s Chanel. 🙂 If you don’t mind the price, it might be worth checking out.

Excellent review!!! Your description is dead-on. I’m a die-hard Chanel fan and thought this looked boring in the pan, but had to have it anyways. I was pleasantly suprised when I applied it on my Chanel Shell 1.5 (which equals NC30/35) skin. I also agree it’s on the sheer side – I use stiffer brushes (versus soft ones) for blushes like this one.

That is very pretty. It reminds me of peaches and cream too.
I tried this on while I was in Hawaii, but sadly, it was just too warm for me. I still have plenty of Chanel blushes, though, so I can’t complain I guess :).

wow it looked so dark in pan and you said it needed to be layered like crazy???? maybe it would work for me. i thought it was too muddy for me from the first pic. i need to see if we have this. thanks for another awesome review!

Wow, it looks so pretty! But I would definitely not pay $42 for a blush…no matter how much I’d love to, for Chanel. 🙁 I suppose some things weren’t meant to be..oh well! Back to the MAC!

LOL! When I was a kid I sang all sorts of sketchy pop songs and NO IDEA what was going on. Once, my friends and I were bored one day and did a song and dance routine to Apollonia’s song, Sex Shooter. We had no clue what the heck she was talking about!
I actually found that song on nmy mp3 player at the weekend and found myself thinking “god, this is just filthy” lol
This is a pretty colour, but I don’t think its $42 worth of pretty. Thats almost 3 MAC blushers that’d probably give you better colour payoff!

With enough layers it shows up really well… it is pricey, though, for how sheer it is. Still, the color’s really interesting. It might be worth a look just to check out how it flashes!

I have very pale skin and love sheer blushes so I think this would work for me. The color is very pretty too but the price is putting me off a bit.
