Yikes, this day is flying by so fast! I can’t believe it’s already lunch time. I think I’m gonna nibble on a PB&J while I take a trip down memory lane. Remember these posts from one and two years ago on MBB?
2008
- Wedding Makeup Tips, Live Blogging from Boca: We’re here in the bridal suite getting ready! I’ve been picking the makeup artist’s brain (Lynette) for wedding makeup tips and she’s been great!
- Brown Skin is Beautiful Skin: I don’t usually reprint posts from the archives, but I stumbled across one from June 2007 that still strikes a chord with me. I think it’s more about being considerate than it is about political correctness, cultural mores or stereotypes, but tell me what you think.
- Essie Winter 2008, aka Her Royal Hotness: Well, cover me in jewels, and bring my royal scepter because the regal shades of rich purple, deep ruby and gold make the Essie Winter 2008 collection ($8 each) a royal tour de force!
2007
- I love you, MAC Antiquitease!: Against my better judgement, here’s a pic of a face of the day with makeup from MAC’s Antiquitease Limited Edition Collection. El hub walked into the bathroom and announced oh-so-loudly that it was time to eat, and subsequently scared the bejeebus out of me.
- 43 things I’m thankful for (the makeup edition): So, what happens when you think about what you’re thankful for while staring at your makeup for too long? Well, the Makeup and Beauty Blog version of 43 Things, of course.
- Red lips and gold eyes: The red lip look is strong, but at the same time versatile. You get lots of mileage out of this look because you can work it in many different settings.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. What did you have for lunch today?

Just had some leftover thai noodles. I also had half of a Korean pear. We recently got the house painted and our painter stopped by this morning and dropped off a huge box of Korean pears. It’s the first time I am having a Korean pear, and boy are they delicious! Very juicy and sweet, somewhat like sugarcane juice. Our painter was sooo nice!!! It’s nice that he does business the Asian way, where we always give gifts and tokens of appreciation our clients…its very heartwarming, esp since that’s also how it is done in India.

What color did you paint the house?
Mmmm, open-face toasted cheese sandwich and a honeycrisp apple (my fave apple name of all time)!
I also was doing some work in the living room and watching Glee! I saw the first three episodes, and I am lovin’ it! I wish my choir had been more like that! Oh, and helllooooooo, Mr. Shue! 😀
That sounds yummy. I don’t think I’ve ever had a honeycrisp apple. Are they extra sweet or something?
LOL, I only got hot for Mr. Shu after seeing him perform Bust a Move. LOLOLZZZ
Yah, it was Golddigger in the tight red t-shirt that caught my attention! 😉
Yeah, that performance was pretty hawt, too.
Isn’t his wife CRAZY?
P.S. Also lovin’ the new comment format! 🙂
Thanks! I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time. 🙂
I just got cinnamon & cumin meatball with chickpeas in fresh tomato sauce.
Delicious and so easy to do 😉
Sounds delish!
That sounds super-yummy, Alexandra! Do you have a recipe you might be willing to share with us…?
Yes, please share! 🙂
Ok, no problems, but you’ll have to put up with my bad english and european mesuring system (yeah grams etc)
For 4 persons :
400 grams of hamburger meat
400 to 600 grams of chickpeas (in a can, easier )
400 grams of peeled tomatoes (in can too)
4 onions
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 spoon of olive oil
1-Mix the hamburger meat with the cumin and cinnamon. Make meatballs with that mix
2-Slice the onions in thin slices
3-Drain the chickpeas of the can juice and rince them
4- In a fryer pan, heat the olive oil, and cook the meatball 5 min on each side (time depends on how big the meatballs are, so be careful)
5-Add the onions slices and let it cook for 3 min
6-Add the chickpeas and the peeled tomatoes with the can juice
7-Add Salt and pepper to your taste
8-Let it cook at low fire for 10 min
It’s ready and yummy !!!
Awesome, Alexandra! Thank you for sharing. I hope to make this soon…
Amen Karen!! Being Filipina and having dark skin is wonderful. I love my color, but have also lived thru comments on being dark. As a kid, I remember family would say ” get out of the sun or your skin will turn black!” How horrible is that!!! I remember one of my aunt’s stories: She was a young girl in the P.I. and she would bathe in the river. She would take a stone and scrub her skin so it would get white. God blessed us with golden skin, we should embrace it!!!!
Yes, girl! I wholeheartedly agree.
I had PB&J too! for the first time in ….. too many years!
I concur with you all- the new comment setup is awesome, and Alexandra’s meatballs sound amazing!
I bet it tasted yummy, right? Are you a smooth or a crunchy peanut butter person?
For lunch I had chicken, tomato sauce and rice. & a piece of Babika for dessert. 😀
I love your post about brown skin 🙂 As you know I’m Filipino. I do recall one of my mom’s good friends who I hadn’t seen in years say, ‘You used to be so light, what happened?’. I was appalled. I admit my forehead was darker than the rest of my skin due to acne medication. But no one had blatantly said I’d gotten dark before. She was one of those who believed in products with whitening properties and wore foundation lighter than her natural skin tone….In the Philippines, the focus on light skin is awful. All of the models on billboards and magazines are of fair Pinay’s & Pinoy’s. (Think NC 20). Walking through the mall, or out in the streets, girls everywhere wear foundation that’s too light in an attempt to appear lighter. I have a cousin who lives in the Phils that uses whitening products constantly. Her skin looks unevenly fake pink now. I tried to tell her to stop. She would look so much better with her natural color.
My mom never told me to go inside and play, but she encouraged me to wear sunscreen because of skin cancer and freckles. She’s encouraged me to love my skin the color it is, so many people out there tan and use bronzers to get my shade.

That’s wonderful Christy. I hope more moms do the same with their kids.
OMIGOD What is the red lipstick in that first picture??? I must have it!
And I had coffee and bundt cake for lunch. I would have had frozen yogurt but I’m trying to give up my addiction.
MAC Queen’s Sin Lipstick and Red Romp Lipglass. Both are from the Antiquitease collection from a few years back.
Well lately I eat only one time in day, actually evening ( I know is not good at all) and I had some grill pork with funghi porcini 🙂 and a salad 🙂

Ok Karen, you’re not going to believe this, but this post actually made me squeel with glee, and I have to share why.
I clicked on your MAC Antiquitease post and gasped out loud. I was in the Cosmetics Company Store this weekend and they had these amazing MAC eyeshadow duos – I had no idea what collection they came from, but it was love at first sight. After trying them on my hand and nearly fainting, I picked up Engaging, Earthly Riches, and Silversmith.
And then I open up your post and see you rocking them!! It made me so happy because they look AMAZING. I haven’t tried them yet, but your post has given me inspiration – I’m going out tonight and this is the perfect excuse to get all done up using color combos from these quads.

That was a fantastic year for MAC Holiday, le sigh!
Glad you were able to find those treasures at the CCO. 🙂
