My grandma has the biggest and prettiest baby pink and lilac hydrangeas I have ever seen in her garden on the island. She gave a tree to my mom so she could start her own line, but since my mom has no green thumb whatsoever, the didn’t make it long…
We call them hortenzije here:) But the english name is very fitting since they require a lot of water to survive!
Yep, all the tourist always ask her if they can have their photos taken in her gardens! She just recently got some weird tree with leaves that smell like lemon when they crushed in between fingers. We have no idea how’s it called, but I’d use it as a perfume if I could, how good it smells!
How intriguing! I would probably spend all day just crushing the leaves and smelling them, LOL! El Hub makes fun of me because my sense of smell is so “ON” (he says I have the nose of a basset hound).
Love them! We planted a bunch last spring then they all promptly died. 🙁 I think the hubbie over watered them…

Love em so much I have them planted in my yard! Fun fact, you can change the color to a certain extent by futzing with the PH levels of the soil. The more acidic the soil the pinker the hydrangeas.
Love them! Just planted a miniature hydrangea bush last summer. It’s supposed to be a deep pink (won’t change with soil ph levels). Can’t wait to see if it comes back and blooms this summer!
Just remembered my neighbor’s white hydrangea bushes from when I was little…we used to always call them the “snowball bushes” because we thought they looked like giant snowballs while they were in bloom 🙂
I adore Hydrangeas! My niece live sin Portland and they are in abundance there–she has the most porgeous ones in her yard–pink,& periwinkle!

Have you seen lacy hydrangeas? They are so delicate and pretty. My mom has gone hydrangea crazy. She dries a bunch each year and now has vases of them all over the house.
I love Hydrangeas. I think they are so pretty.

Me too! I think they might be one of my favorite flowers.

Your grandmas garden sounds beautiful!

I think they’re very picky about water and sunlight. When I usually see them they’re in a shady spot…
Yeah ours were in mostly sun and the hubbie drenched them with water every day. I warned him! 🙂

That might’ve been a big part of it! Those suckers love the shade!
I love hydrangeas! I used green ones in my wedding florals!
That sounds really pretty! Did you have them in your bouquet?
They are so pretty – these look hand painted!
Totally… it looks as though a very talented watercolor painter went to town on ’em.
They are beautiful……………

Don’t they just make you smile?
They are beautiful, especially the colored onces like these!
I love them too! They look unreal!
Periwinkle is my favorite shade, so I love them!
I love Periwinkle! Here are a few fun facts about the color from the Crayola website, if you’re interested:

Interesting info. Thanks!

Aww, how cute. 🙂
Did you ever pick any? When I was a kid I was always tempted to go into yards and go to town on the flowers!

How pretty! I would love all those colors in my yard.
They’re pretty but the devil for me. I’m so allergic to their pollen!
Allergies suck! I feel your pain.
They love shade?! I need to get me some of those stat! My patio gets almost no sun, these would be perfect!
They do! When I lived out in the Richmond district (aka fog central) in SF, there were tons of ’em all over the place.
I love them, but we have no shade in our yard, which means no hydrangeas.
I love hydrangeas!
Gorgeous!

Gorgeous! I love going to my boyfriend’s mom’s place because she has these beautiful hydrangeas 🙂
My favorite flower! I have a bunch in the front of my house. I adore them!
They were in my bridal bouquet! I love them!
