Is it wrong to want Sunday brunch on a Wednesday afternoon? — or to get a little dolled up and don colorful makeup in the middle of the week? I hope not, because today the Benefit Sunday Funday palette and I have reservations. We’re doing a daytime/brunch look together featuring eyes in purple and bronze.
To test the versatility of the brushes that come with the kit, I told myself not to use any other brushes for this look, which was tough because I’m really picky about my eye brushes. I usually ditch the ones that come with palettes like this one, but the Sunday Funday brushes actually shine like stars. I wouldn’t toss my best brushes for ’em, but they should be great for trips and purses when you want to travel light.
The Benefit Sunday Funday Palette
Despite the palette’s name, I’m guessing these colors are safe to wear any day of the week, ha!
Most of the products I use for this tutorial hail from Benefit Sunday Funday, but if you happen to have any similar shades from other brands, feel free to put ’em to work!
First, grab your goodies!
Makeup for the eyes…
- A neutral eyeshadow primer like Benefit Stay Don’t Stray
- Toasty Liner from Sunday Funday
- The Pretty in Plum Eyeshadow from Sunday Funday
- The Shimmering Bronze Eyeshadow from Sunday Funday
- The Pink Satin Eyeshadow from Sunday Funday
- A black mascara like Benefit BADgal Waterproof Mascara
Your tools…
- Both of the dual-tipped brushes from Sunday Funday
- A good lash curler (lately I’ve been liking the Benefit ProCurl, but Shu’s curler also works great)

Eye makeup, eye makeup, 1-2-3
1. Let’s start by prepping our lids. To prep mine and boost the wear time of the shadows, I start by smoothing Benefit Stay Don’t Stray primer over the entire lid with a finger. Then, with the Toasty Eyeliner, I draw a solid block of color directly on top of the lid area (which ramps up the richness of the shadow colors even MORE). Since I plan to smudge it, baby (aww, yeah!), in the next step, I kinda rush through it.
2. Color me bad. With one of Sunday Funday’s fluffy eyeshadow brushes, I pat Pretty in Plum directly on top of the liner, and, with the same brush, draw the color up into the crease.
3. Deepen the crease. To tone down the purple just a smidge and create the illusion of more depth around the eyes, I sweep Shimmering Bronze into the crease with the other Sunday Funday fluffy eyeshadow brush. Then, with a finger, I draw the color up toward my brow bone to mellow out any harsh lines.
4. Open up and say “eye” with a spot of shimmery shadow. For a wide-eyed look (insomniacs like me use this trick all the time!), I dab a finger directly into the pan of Pink Satin to pick up some color, and then apply a dot of it at the center of the lid. No need to blend out edges here because Pink Satin should settle on its own after a few minutes.
5. Let’s line the lower lash line to make our eyes POP! First, I line it with Toasty, and then I smudge Shimmering Bronze directly on top using the Sunday Funday angled eyeshadow brush.
6. Mascara time! As a finishing touch, I curl my lashes with the Benefit ProCurl Curler and apply three coats of Benefit BADgal Waterproof Mascara both to my upper and lower lashes (now bat them prettily!).

Sunday Funday even comes with makeup for lips and cheeks (I swear this thing has it all).
Here, I dot and blend Sunday Funday’s Benetint on my cheeks, contouring the area below the apples with Hoola and swiping Shimmering Rose gloss on my lips.

Oh my! How funny – I was just wondering how to use this beautiful plum eyeshadow (it’s from Korres, the plum color) I have, and decided to check out your blog, and boom! =D I really like this palette, but I have similar colors and would feel bad if I splurged on it, hee hee…
Would you say the shimmering bronze is close to Urban Decay’s Smog? I’m not sure what to pair the plum with, but this gives me an idea for something that I could try (and I’m not brave when it comes to bright eye colors. ^_^ Maybe one day, but not there yet…!)

They’re similar, so you could it to replace the bronze shade, but there are subtle differences. Shimmering Bronze is a touch more coppery (like a penny!), while Smog is more of a neutral golden brown.
I can’t wait to copy this look! I might try it tommorrow since I have plans after work.
I used the palette once last week but was disappointed in the shadows – I realized I should have used a primer first!
Primer totally helps. If you want to bump up the colors even more you could also always wet your brush first with MAC Fix+!

I loooove the Get Baked palette, and you can do something very similar with the Get Baked shades. Try Bourbon liner on the lid, pop a brown or gold shade on top, and do a lil’ bit of teal in the crease. Or, pop the teal on top of Bourbon and do gold or brown in the crease.
