I pictured card-carrying members of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion cult dancing around the ceremonial bonfire when I heard about the new Eyeshadow Primer Potion Professional Size ($29).
For an extra $11 dollars, you get more than twice as much product as the regular size. Yes, the new 0.85 oz tube works out to about $34/ounce, versus the original 0.34 oz bottle at $53/ounce. Both still sound like a lot, but the larger bottle is clearly a better deal, especially if you wear the product daily (as many women do).
If you’re new to the stuff, Primer Potion’s a nude eyeshadow primer praised for its ability to increase the wear time of other eye products worn on top, and it’s been one of the most talked about eyeshadow primers of the past few years. Gals also use it to prevent/delay shadows from creasing and colors from fading, and it consistently receives high marks from devoted makeup fans.
I’d call myself a fan, but I wouldn’t say I’m a member of the cult.
When it comes to simple eye looks, I like Primer Potion. I use it to lock shadows down and for simple washes of color over the entire lid, but when it comes to more complicated eyeshadow looks with multiple colors and extensive blending, I actually think it makes it tougher to blend away harsh lines.
Instead, for more complex eye looks, I’ll reach for Urban Decay’s Eden Primer Potion, a newer formulation released earlier this year that I find makes shadows easier to blend.

Anyone else notice how the new tube packaging looks like Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance Primer? It’s bulkier and obviously bigger than the orignal curvy bottle, but I give it props for efficiency. I find it easier to control how much product I use without wasting a drop, and I sure hope they release a version of Eden in the same style packaging.

Speaking of Urban Decay…
UD loves pushing out their holiday stuff early, and I’ve been seeing more and more of it online already. This week they released their Urbanglow Cream Highlighters ($24), a new line of multi-purpose cream highlighters for eyes, cheeks and face in four shimmery shades — Brown Sugar (a warm brownish taupe), Moonshine (an iridescent shimmer), Sin (a shimmering champagne) and Wicked (a pinkish shimmer).
I wonder if they’ll work as well as the MAC Cream Color Bases. Hmm…
Last year’s Smoke Out Kits ($34) in Yerba have resurfaced online as well, so if you missed those eyeshadow/primer kits the first time around, you’ll have another chance to stock up. 🙂

I’m like you- a fan but not a member of the cult. But I give props to them making it in a tube finally. I hope it doesn’t separate like Too Faced Shadow Insurance does.
I can’t believe I haven’t tried the UD eyeshadow primer yet – I am embarrassed! I bought the Too Faced primer last year, and I guess I don’t use it a lot cause it still hasn’t run out. I’m dying to try the UD Sin primer (the shimmery one), so I’ll probably get that next, even though it has the lousy packaging.

I’m a fan of UD’s Primer Potion and although I prefer the Sin version for looks that really make your eyes pop, I usually wear the original version as an everyday primer. Thanks for the side-by-side size comparison, I hadn’t got an idea of scale from the UD website. Does the larger packaging come with any applicator though or were you using your fingers or a brush to apply it?
I have the new professional size. It does not come with an applicator.
I think they’re a little too late for this – I switched to Too Faced a long time ago, no point in switching back… (besides, I think it’s easier to blend! :))
For me, UDPP does prevent creasing but after about a half hour my eyeshadow starts to all blend together and becomes muddy. Any advice?
Karen, any word on whether the tube applicator is here to stay? That’s my only worry is that they’ll go back to the genie bottle. I’m curious if they’ll release the other bases in tubes too, I really want to try Eden but I am hoping to hold off until they do that.
The tube applicator will be permanent; the size itself is limited edition. I hope they change the other versions to this tube one, too!

That is one mega size tube of primer! I use mine pretty much daily, so I think this will go into my Christmas wish list. I’m not quite done my XL size bottle of Primer Potion, but will be done soon I think 😉

This great packaging is LE though! I hope they’ll make it permanent! I’ve also heard that it expires 6 months after opening it ! How on earth will you use up all that product in just 6 months? :/

I’ve never used a primer before (I know, put on your surprised face!). I am an oily lid gal, though, so maybe I should consider one more seriously.
I’m on the fence about this. Ofcourse I am excited about the new package but I tend to have dry lids and I find that TFSI is better for my dry lids than UDPP. But on the other hand, UDPP makes my eyeshadow more vibrant and longer lasting and it does not separate like TFSI. First world dilemmas…
that’s pretty cool. I love Urban Decay. I have their eyeliners (liquid & pencil) their Primer Potion and their Mineral Foundation (that I got at a super sweet sale deal online xD). But, anyway! I would LOVELOVELOVE!! to go for this when my Primer Potion runs out!
