Tarte Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder in Rose on cheeks, bridge of nose and chin
And the hits keep comin’ from Tarte! The cruelty-free brand (one of Tabs’ faves) just launched two new pressed powder highlighters for spring called the Provocateur Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powders ($30 each). The name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but the powders do have some moves.
The almost weightless, finely milled grains feel like baby powder on my skin — unlike those other highlighting powders that make my pores look larger than the Grand Canyon. They can be applied to cheeks, brow bones, and décolletage for a highlighting glow. Use a little for a soft, subtle sheen, or a lot to shoot for the stars.
These continue Tarte’s Amazonian clay trend, too, supposedly adjusting to the wearer’s skin. Tarte claims they add moisture to dry spots while absorbing oil from slick ones, but in that regard I’m not totally sold.

But as far as these look, I’m a fan. Both have a considerable amount of pigment and a finish that’s more sheen than shimmer. They remind me of MAC Beauty Powders, which I love.
Things these powder do NOT contain: parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs, Triclosan
Even though I think cool golden Champagne and warm golden pink Rose look lovely, I would love to see Tarte come down on the price (hint hint!).
All told, I prefer the way Rose looks on my tan skin (NC35), and I think Champagne longs for a lighter lass (it’s a little too cool and pale for me).
PRICE: $30 for a .32-oz. pan
AVAILABILITY: Available at Sephora stores and online

P.S. Congratulations to the Packers! Tabs is totally thrilled. 🙂

The Champagne one is calling me but every time I get close, the price stabs me in the chest.
ahhh. so THAT’S the sharp stinging sensation i feel :p
You guys crack me up. On the flip side, you do get a lot of product… plus it’s cruelty free!
cruelty free is ALWAYS a plus 🙂
Woot! And the kitty paws go waaaay up!
ooh, the glow on your skin is GORGEOUS! love the packaging, too!
Tarte is having a GREAT spring! Whoever did the packaging needs a bonus, LOL!
These look just perfect! The Rose one looks fab on you!
Thanks, Tracy! I hope you had a great weekend.
I didn’t know Tabs was a cheesehead! lol
Oh yeah! It stems from his time as a professional cheerleader/choreographer.
Always on the lookout for the perfect highlighter- pearly shimmer, not sparkle- and pale enough for me, which generally means I end up using white eyeshadow! I’m definitely checking this one out soon!
Hi Jessica,
This one has a wonderful sheen finish.
Also, if you haven’t tried them yet then check out the MAC Beauty Powders. Those are great, too!
Oh, I am all over this like a…makeup junkie…like me, on makeup, I guess. Well, it’s glorious!
I’m loving all the new things coming from Tarte these days. I just wore one of their new cream eye shadows today. I’m not sure what stores are selling it, I got it from QVC. It’s in a color called slate but I think it’s more of a rosey taupe color. Gorgeous! I put it on about 14 hours ago, no primer, and it hasn’t creased! Color me impressed!
I love the packaging. Thinking this could be a good alternative to High beam if you use more matt products xoxox
Rose looks gorgeous! It gives such a nice glow to your skin. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive!
Oh lovely packaging
These are incredible – I have found a good shimmer hard to find over the years! Packaging is top class although price is a bit of a let-down.
Ya that’s true it’s a bit expensive, but worth?
yay – LOVE Tarte this season. I have the rose already, and wonder if I need champagne too? they look kinda similar on your swatch, but since I’m fair I think they might be pretty different on me?
Love this packaging! It’s lovely. Plus, both shades are pretty. I’m curious, how does Champagne compare to Mary-Lou Manizer from The Balm?
oh those are so lovely! ive been using vanilla pigment to highlight but that powder is wayyyy easier to use!
Tarte’s about to get a good chunk of my wallet with their Spring collection, it’s lovely!
Karen, any chance you could do a quick how-to for your eye makeup please? I’m in love with this look but always struggle with how far to take the dark shadow in the outer corner..
These are cery pretty but I still love my Sephora highlighting trio in “Rose Pink.” You should try it out Karen it is VERY shimmery, but buildable. So if you don’t want your face to look like a glitter ball you just apply a very little amount!
The packaging on these is awesome, but I don’t think they’re worth the $30. Great review, as always, Karen!
This looks gorgeous on you! You know what I’m loving more though? YOUR SHIRT! It’s too cute. I’d love to snag that more than these powders 🙂
I’ve become a fan of High Beam but I’m so darn lazy that I hardly ever wear it. Maybe powder would be an easier option for me. I’ll have to give that some thought!
And, congrats to Tabs and the Pack. 🙂
Love them! Also, I like your shirt! Where’d you get it from??
These remind me of the beauty powders that recently came out with MAC’s Stylishly Yours collection. They were both only $22.
Im a highlighter junkie and I def will cheack this out… although, how shimmery are these cuties? I have acne prone skin so shimmery products tend to caus me acne- YUCK!
