Because I got up a little late yesterday and didn’t have much time to get reader for my de Young museum date with Cindy, I went with an outfit that 1) I could comfortably walk around in for a few hours and 2) I wouldn’t have to iron.
This light pink dress by Soprano, another brand from the Juniors section at Nordstrom, got the job. The material, a rayon-linen blend, resists wrinkles, and because it’s soft and stretchy, I can move around in it without feeling constricted.

I knew Cindy and I would be covering a lot of ground, so I traded my usual high heels for a pair of comfy sandals. These t-strap wedges by Jambu have a manageable 2.5-inch heel, and I think the bronzy color plays well with the oversized brown belt by H&M.
You never know what the weather will be like in SF, not even in the summer (it turned out to be overcast and cool), so I topped the dress off with this cropped olive green jacket by Therapy. A blue scarf from H&M (a gift from my brother and his girlfriend last year) with pink, green and yellow flowers ties the outfit together and provides a little extra warmth and texture.
A little bling never hurts, so I added a necklace from Kate Spade and a sparkly bee ring from Cara Accessories. If you prefer simpler pieces, I think a big pair of gold hoops would also work really well with this outfit.

A breakdown of the outfit…
- Dress —Soprano (check availability at Nordstrom stores)
- Shoes — Jambu Camden Wedge (now available online)
- Jacket — Therapy by Lane Crawford (no longer available)
- Belt — H&M (no longer available)
- Scarf — H&M (no longer available)
- Necklace — Kate Spade Shimmer Short Necklace (available now online; also check Kate Spade and Nordstrom stores for availability)
- Ring — Cara Accessories Critters Bee Crystal Stretch Ring (available now at Nordstrom stores and also online)
When you go sightseeing or spend a day at a museum, what kind of clothes do you like to wear?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Gotta give special props to my BFF, Cindy, who not only did a great job as my photo assistant yesterday (thanks, Cindy!), but I think she also looks great in Evolution Revolution Lipglass. 🙂

You girls are so cute ! Very well put together outfit !
Thanks, Yadi!
BTW, I saw your adorable pic of your new haircut on twitter the other day!
Love your ensemble, Karen! Very comfy chic:)
I saw a simliar scarf in Esprit the other day, but in another color. Your blue scarf definitely added that extra oomph in the outfit:)
Makeup? Flawless:) I have always loved the “natural” or “no-makeup” makeup look.
Do you have any tutorials for this kind of look? It’s been hit or miss for me for quite a while now:(
Thanks, Karen!:) – Sasha

Oh wow thanks so much, Karen! You are an angel:) Will definitely take a look at those links. Thank you for sharing:)
Your message, as well as tips, made me smile today:) Can you believe I’m only 32 in a roomful of elderly peeps (we’re talking 80-90 yrs old) waiting to be prepped for heart surgery? Just had one yesterday. Survived, but still groggy from all the drugs and stuff. The one thing, though, that I asked my hubby to bring to the hospital was my phone so in recovery, I could catch up on your blog. No kidding:) So a big Thank You, Karen for keeping my spirits up:) Can’t wait to be better so I can go to the MAC counter and buy some blot powder and that tinted lip conditioner that Johnny Weir uses (hopefully I got the name right from your article). Slowly rebuilding my makeup collection, and keeping it positive:) Thank you again:)
Love the outfit! I wish I had more fashion sense. I’m just a jeans and T-shirt kinda gal.
Ya know, I go through phases when I’m all about the jeans/t-shirts too. The weather’s been nice here so I’ve been dressing up a little more!
Hope you had a lovely weekend. 🙂
You look so cute!
Thanks, Beka! 🙂
Wow Karen, I don’t know how you manage to do it- putting outfits together and accessorizing are complete mysteries to me. And Cindy has amazing hair and is super cute! I’m glad you guys had a great day. I wish I had someone to go to museums with (and actual museums to go to!).
Hi Jessi,
I bet you could do it, too! It’s a lot like building a makeup look — find a few basics that you love, then switch out the accessories (like bright eyes or bold lips) to suit your mood.
Hope you had a lovely weekend!
I used to work at a museum! Yup, I was a sales associate in the gift shop. I always recommend sneakers or at the very least comfy shoes. Once a guy ran into the shop asking if we sold flip flops, because his girlfriend was wearing a lovely pair of heels that absolutely killed her feet! I hope she learned her lesson after that day.
Somebody needs to invent flip flops with famous art on the soles! I’d buy some Monet flip flops in a heartbeat.
That outfit looks so chic and comfy! I love the neutrals with the colorful scarf.
Thanks, Terri. 🙂 How was your weekend? Good, I hope!
im loving this dress! After the last outfit of the day I went to BP at Nordstrom and found a couple cool accessories! I decided I need to start shopping there again. =)
Oh, cool! What did you pick up? A few necklaces, earrings?
Cute outfit! I covet that jacket and scarf!
I’ve definitely learned to dress in layers when going to San Francisco. It can be blazing hot in Marin or Sonoma County and once I cross that bridge — brrrr!
Looks like you had a great time. I LOVE looking at art!
Oh, no kidding. It was so warm in the North Bay when I left. The minute I crossed the bridge I was like — DOH! Now I remember what it’s like to live in the City. 🙂
You look stunning. I wish I had a sense of style (and a bod) like that! =)
PS – I got Evo Revo this week! It’s my first MAC gloss, and I love it!
Hi Jenny,
You could probably easily re-create this outfit with stuff in your closet. 🙂 Do you have a go-to dress? Add some accessories and you’d be good to go!
So glad to hear you’re loving Evolution Revolution. When you get the chance, put on a layer and go out into the sun — you’ll be able to see the sparkles even more.
A full body shot is so rare, LOL! Your legs are looking great, almost makes me want to go and do something about them. I think. Nah *grabs a cookie* 😉
Can I have a cookie? 🙂 Semi-sweet chocolate with walnuts, please!
Cute and chic! I LOVE the ring!!!
Thanks, Sonya. It was a gift from my mom for my birthday.
I love your outfit! Perfect for a day of museum-going. I especially like the scarf.
Thanks, Ariel! How was your weekend?
“When you go sightseeing or spend a day at a museum, what kind of clothes do you like to wear?”
Um, jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt. 🙂
You can’t go wrong with the classics. 🙂
I saw your scarf and I literally squealed in real life, then pointed to the screen and yelled “that’s MY scarf!” No, I’m not trying to be a creeper LOL
But I’ve never thought to wear the scarf like that! Great ensemble! Casual, cute, and chic! =D
You know, me too! I love it though, and wear it all the time. 🙂
Yay for H&M!
Ha,ha…I have the same scarf too! I got mine from F21 though, but exactly the same and I get compliments every time I wear it. Karen, you make it look fab!
Hi Diana,
We have the best scarf, LOL! I love that thing — it practically goes with everything! I could wear it every day.
super cute outfit karen!
yes, do you think maybe you could do a FOTD of the makeup you’re wearing here? It looks so natural!

Yes! It had been a while since I got to hang out with her, so it was a good day. After the museum we went to eat at a Peruvian food restaurant called Pasion:
