Here’s a really great photo trick straight from the red carpet (well, sort of, by way of my hotel room and iPhone) and Neutrogena celebrity makeup artist Amy Oresman.
Amy works with a lot of celebs on their red carpet looks, so she knows a ton about posing for pics.
All you do is this: right before someone snaps your picture, you tilt your head at an angle from the camera — you don’t want to be looking at the camera straight on. Then, you roll your shoulders forward, tilt your neck forward, and tilt your chin down, and what this does is sort of elongate your neck and create more angles in your face, which for some reason just looks better in pics.
Hmm… It takes some practice to do it quickly without feeling goofy, LOL! But I think I can see a difference in the before and after pics.
Just a pro tip for the next time you’re either on the red carpet or, like me, taking pics in your messy living room at home with your cat.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. It’s good to be home! Happy hump day to ya. 🙂

This is a little off topic, but I LOVE your necklace! I’ve been buying a lot of statement necklaces recently.
Thanks! It’s from Anthropologie. I got it last year and it’s one of my fave pieces to wear.
lol! I just tried this with my phone and uh…..no one will ever see that picture as long as I live! It definitely takes practice. 🙂
Give it a few tries. It took me a few to get it right (with Amy’s coaching!).
The red carpet pose makes it look like you have a happy secret. I like it!
Thanks! I hope you try it sometime. 🙂
You mean “roll your shoulders BACKward, tilt your neck forward”, right?
Nope. Roll shoulders forward.
Great tips! Most of my “glamour shots” are taken in my car or at home with the cats. 🙂 I enjoyed reading your Nashville posts. It sounds like a fun city. Hopefully Tabs was happy to see you when you got back!
The kitties are the ultimate glam accessory!
How are they doing? Has Mingy been able to explore the outside yet?
The kitties love the space in our new house. Mingy is getting more brave about exploring the outdoors!
I want to know where you got that lovely top you’re wearing? I NEED it! 😀
Hi Georgia,
It’s a dress from Anthropologie!

Thank you! 🙂
You can definitely see the difference! I’ll have to get my pose on and give it a try! xxx

You are glowing! Gorgeous!
Nice tips!
I must try this sometime – although my ballet training is screaming out against the chin down, shoulders forward thing. Talk about a way to crash out of your pirouette, LOL! (Assuming you were pirouetting down the red carpet, anyway)
I need a lott of practise.. its my task for the day to practice this pose everytime I spot a mirror.. 😉
