This is why Tabs has never hired a feline assistant.
He is territorial to the extreme! Heck, he even kicked a plush toy cat’s @ss when he thought it was invading his territory.

I was really looking forward to Kelly’s lipsticks from the the MAC Sharon & Kelly Osbourne collection, because from the product pics, they looked like the cats meow/whole enchilada (what’s the British equivalent of an enchilada? A pasty?) — like, take off your stretchy pants, and put on some real pants so you can head to the counter right now.
But then I tried them on…and I realized that you may have to be 16 years old with lips smoother than a baby’s butt to pull them off.
With the exception of Kelly Yum-Yum, the only satin lipstick in the bunch, the others are hard to wear, at least for me, and I really, REALLY tried to make them work.
Dude. I almost didn’t want to post these lip swatches because I’m not exactly thrilled with how they turned out. My lips look dry and heavily lined. I mean, I know I’m not a spring chicken, and I may be a little dehydrated today, but come on! I feel like Miss Havisham up in this b*tch.
So, first, the good. Kelly Yum-Yum. 🙂 If you only get one lip product from the Kelly squad, let it be this. It’s a satin finish version of the spectacular matte Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick. I just wore Candy Yum-Yum last week in the Jem lips post.
Other than the finishes being different, the colors aren’t identical. Kelly Yum-Yum has a little more pink, and not quite as much blue. But I think both are straight-up showstoppers.
Then there’s In Synch, the re-promoted Lip Pencil. It’s a solid oldie but a goodie.
I found the others here — the three matte lipsticks — difficult to wear, at least without serious lip prepping.
Like, if I smothered my lips first with lip balm the night before, and then on the morning of, and then drank five gallons of water, and then turned back time 10 years (ok, 20), then, yeah, we could make ’em work.

Tabs.
This is the title I have chosen to give this work of art. (I also considered “Kitty Supermodel Extraordinaire” and “Most Outstanding Cat.”)
I felt it was time for me to give something back to the cat lady community, so I created this extra large computer wallpaper of myself, myself.
I was staring into a mirror one day getting into character before a big runway show when it hit me — damn, I’m a gorgeous tabby. It would be selfish of me not to share these good looks with the world.
I made one version with a calendar, and one without. I hope you like.
Love always,
Tabs
Who is Tabs the Cat?
About seven years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). -Karen
P.S. My assistant tells me that you still have time to enter this weekend’s giveaway for a $50 Sephora eGift card (it closes on Monday at midnight). You should totally enter! They have a nice selection of cat-themed makeup and beauty products now.

If you can, marry a man who’ll buy you a pair of glasses to reduce eye strain.
I’m so not kidding!
Without even asking him to, El Hub got me these Gamma Ray Glasses ($30) from amazon.com last week, and they have straight-up changed my life.
Thank you, El Hub. 🙂
They’re great if you stare at a computer screen all day long, like yours truly. Something about filtering out the blue light, which is tough on your eyes, or something like that…
I’m not exactly sure how they work, but they do! My eyes seriously feel better at the end of the day, and my head doesn’t hurt (I get these headaches behind my eyes after I’ve been staring at the screen for 12 hours).
Because of the whole tinted lenses thing, though, I don’t use them when I’m working on pics. Mostly just writing.
It’s weird… When I wear them, I can actually feel the muscles on my face and eyes relaxing, and I don’t squint as much. By late afternoon when the glare on the screen in my office is at its worst, these help a lot.
Placebo effect?
Maybe… I don’t know. I don’t think so. I think they really work.
I’ve got the ones with the tortoiseshell frames, but they also come in black.

That dark purple, though!
The colors in Clinique’s new travel exclusive Eyes To Go Palette (available now at select airports worldwide) are shades I’d normally dismiss as way too cool for my warm skin tone (I’m a MAC NC42), but that dark plum in the center is the business. It’s just too beautiful to resist.
So rich! So plummy! I bet it would look amaze-balls on the lids with a shimmery warm copper in the crease and a sparkly gold or bronze in the inner corner.
Keep an eye out for the Eyes To Go palette next time you’re at an airport and spot a Clinique display, store or counter. The price will vary depending on what country you’re in, but these travel exclusive palettes usually go for $45-60.

I like to wear Laura Mercier’s Sheer Creme Color in Golden Pink on the apples of my cheeks (applying it with a patting motion) when I rock bolder eye looks. It’s a creamy new limited edition face product that adds a sheer veil of shimmery golden pink color.
Words of warning (not a big deal, but just to save yourself some trouble): be careful not to go overboard with this, especially if you wear foundation. The first time I tried it on, I applied too much, and it ended up looking really patchy on my cheeks.
Golden Pink ($35) is part of the New Attitude collection, which you can find now at Laura Mercier counters and online.

I’m reserving this lip look for when I get cast as an extra in the Jem and the Holograms movie.
I wish!
Something like that would be (wait for it…) truly outrageous. 🙂
It’s MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick with the new MAC 3D Silver Glitter and 3D Pink Glitter on top. I applied Candy Yum Yum first with a lip brush, and then used the same brush to press the glitter on my lips.

I hope you had a happy Mother’s Day yesterday. 🙂 I drove out to my parents’ house in the East Bay, and then we all went out and got Chinese for lunch.
That picture up there at the top is what we had for dessert back at the house. It’s called halo-halo, a Filipino ice cream dessert.
