The other day I was running errands and noticed the sun setting, so I sat in my car and watched the sky change colors for a few minutes. I love finding beauty in unexpected places.

My dad found this cleaning out the house last weekend! It’s an old Beastie Boys tape that I gave to my little brother for his birthday when he was in middle school. That year he also got Soundgarden’s Superunkown, making me officially the coolest older sister ever.

Halo-halo is a Filipino dessert that’s kinda like Hawaiian shave ice. It’s one of my fave sweet treats.

Oh, sweet, sweet watermelon. How I’ve missed you!

To pick a good watermelon…

• Look it over: Look for a firm, symmetrical watermelon free from bruises, cuts or dents.
• Lift it up: The watermelon should be heavy for its size. Watermelon is 92% water.
• Turn it over: The underside of the watermelon should have a creamy yellow patch from where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun.
