I looked outside my window this morning and noticed that the oak trees on my street have their leaves again! When you look up, all you see is green. It’s gorgeous!
So, I wanted to wear green today.
It is possible to wear color and still finish your makeup in 15 minutes or less
You know, I also wanted to attempt a 15-minute look that wasn’t 100% neutrals.
It’s easier to do quickie makeup with smoky browns and beige (which you know I love), but sometimes I like to challenge myself (but not too much), so I paired a green lid with a purple lower lash line, pink cheeks and pink lips today.
It reminds me that you CAN wear color while doing speedy makeup. It IS possible. You just have to be careful how you go about it, and I think that it also helps to focus on either your eyes or your lips.
Pick one — eyes or lips
If you go with bright lips, you get a lot of bang for your buck. With a bright red, coral, purple, pink or something else, you can dial back everything else, and don’t have to try as hard with your eyes and your skin, etc.
And when you’re in a major rush, bright lips are usually easier to do than bright eyes. There’s more room for error, and you don’t have to worry as much about perfect symmetry.
I mean, do you want to be moving like a makeup maniac at 100 miles per hour for your 15 minutes, or would you rather take a leisurely lip stroll?
I’m just sayin’.
Sheer shadows are easier than super pigmented ones
That said, it isn’t impossible to do a colorful eye look in 15 minutes, and when you are going to do one, I think that sheerer shadows are easier than super pigmented ones, because pigmented eyeshadows got NO CHILL.
I’m wearing a sheer eye tint by Clinique in this look called Chubby Stick Shadow Eye Tint in Mighty Moss. It’s also a cream, which means no fallout, YAY!
I layered it on top of one of my favorite MAC liners, Minted, which I sloppily whooshed along my upper lash line. Then I smudged a purple Chubby Stick Tint called Portly Plum along my lower lash lines and blended it out.
So, yeah! Fast doesn’t have to mean neutral. You CAN get some color up in the mix. 🙂
Look for double-duty products
If you’ve been reading Makeup and Beauty Blog for a while (shout-out to all my 10-year MBB buddies), you know I love products that do double duty, like highlighters that you can wear on your upper cheekbones or as an inner corner highlight, or powder eyeshadows that you can use to fill in your brows or line your lash lines.
Here I’m wearing NARS Sun Wash Bronzer in Laguna as a bronzer on my cheeks, and I’m also using it in the crease as a transition color.
Sheer face products help, too!
Which brings me back to the whole sheer thing. Because Laguna Sun Wash is a sheer bronzer, I didn’t have to spend a lot of time blending out edges.
And the foundation I’m wearing is also sheer. It’s MAC Next to Nothing Face Colour Foundation, which doesn’t have a lot of coverage, but sometimes when you’re pressed for time and don’t have half an hour to spend on blending, a little coverage is enough.
I’m curious, when you do quickie colorful makeup, are you more likely to go with a colorful eye or a colorful lip?

I have a tendency to go for bright & colorful eyes rather than lips. In fact, since the sun was out for the first time in a very long time, I wore a bright purple eyeliner today. My lip colors just don’t last unless I put in a lot of time & prep. I adore the green & purple combo–I may try it out tomorrow!
Pretty spring look! When I’m rushing out to run errands, I wear concealer, draw in my brows and wear a bright lip color. Normally I prefer to play up my eyes though. I rarely go neutral since I look better with some color. You should totally do a You Tube tutorial on this look!!
