Holy eye makeup ruts, Batman! I’ve been in one for about a month. I just haven’t wanted to push myself, makeup-speaking, or venture out of my comfort zone.
Does this ever happen to you?
I really haven’t been experimenting with any new eye makeup techniques lately or funky eyeshadow placement, and I’m not going the extra mile, you know? — like by applying false lashes or going buck wild with my eye looks. I’ve been eye makeup lazy, also known as perfectly comfortable doing the same-o, same-o, which for me is color in the crease, color on the lid and a little in the outer corner.

I’ll use different eyeshadows, of course, but I’ll place them on my eyes in more or less the same way.
This is the Old Faithful of eyeshadow placement positioning for me, LOL! Putting color in the crease, color on the lid and a little in the outer corner gets the job done. It appears to deepen the crease, which matters to me because mine isn’t naturally very deep (my eye shape is somewhat “hooded”), and I like my eyes to look like they’re set a little deeper.
1. A mid-toned eyeshadow in the crease
When I do this eye look, this is how I’ll start, and it’s usually with a matte or a satin brown to fake the falling of shadows and sort of make my eyes look like they’re set deeper than they actually are.
2. Now a lighter color on the lid
Then I’ll pat a lighter color, usually a shimmer, on the “mobile” portion of the lid, which is the part that moves when you blink.
My mobile lid space is limited, but I feel that when I place a lighter shadow on it, it emphasizes what little mobile lid space I’ve got, because the lighter color catches the light and looks closer, or more prominent.
That, and the contrast between the lighter shade on the lid and the darker shade just above it also makes the crease look even deeper.
3. Blend a darker color into the outer corner
The last thing I like to do is blend a darker color into the outer corners, which seems to lift (but it’s just an illusion) the outer edge of the eye. Since the edges of my eyes naturally sort of slope downward, sometimes I’ll look sleepy, even on those rare occasions when I’m not. 🙂 Strategically placing a little of a darker eyeshadow in the outer corners seems to lift the eyes and prevent that.

Karen–my lazy girl eye routine was COMPLETELY provided by you, actually! MAC Woodwinked buffed on lid and crease, with Costa Riche smudged on upper and lower lash lines! I know you didn’t mean it to be any kind of groundbreaking look, but I loooooooooove it, and have worn it 2-3x/week all summer. I don’t even feel like I’m in a rut w/it, either–it’s such a versatile look that I’m much more open to trying bright lipsticks than I have been in the past. So…thank you!!!!
This is great. I’m new to blending so this post is really helpful.
Basically this is what I do, along with a bright lipstick, on the weekends or for a special event. Most of the women/girls I know don’t wear much makeup, so even the little effort I put in seems like a lot compared to them!
This is my routine all day, er’day! Lol! Seriously, I did an eye look last week that was so involved & required so much blending that when I was done, I was all- ” nah, bruh! This ish is too much. I’ll stick to my lazy girl routine!” I do add a little more depth at times but this works so great for my almond eyes 🙂
I totally know what you mean Karen, I have been in lazy mode for my makeup for a while now. Normally, I’m doing smokey looks, and looks with bright colors, falsies or bold lips. However, lately it’s just been rice paper in my inner tear ducts and brow bone, woodwinked on my lid, blended out with swiss chocolate and espresso. And then some brown liner smudged on my lower lash lines, and black on my tops. lol. Boring. I just haven’t been feeling creative lately, which is a shame. since it’s summer and the weather is actually nice here.

Girl, you’ve got me beat by 1-2 steps! For awhile, I’ve just been throwing MAC Kid on, even tho I own every pallette in the world! A song as I have black eyeliner and mascata, I’m happy!
your lazy look is, like, my full effort look. my laziest of laze look is a funky darker eyeliner swept on upper eyes (like a dark/almost black green/plum/charcoal), a gold on bottom lashline, a neutral cheek color and a bright/interesting lip color. plus eyebrows.
Girl, that’s my sophisticated makeup placement. My rut is cream eyeshadow all day erryday this summer; in previous summers it was eyeshadow crayons….
When I’m at my laziest, I just pat a cream shadow all over the lid and smudge it with my finger.
At first I read this as lazy eye make-up, so I was like whuuuut, what lazy eye is she talking about??
I’m pretty lazy actually when it comes to my eye make-up, even though people always seem to think that I put in a crazy amount of work. I just do one color on the lid, a darker color in the outer corner of the eye and crease (usually the same one) and blend blend blend. And I just rinse & repeat every day, lol.
Totally lazy these days! Some days I’ll just swipe some eyeliner and mascara on! Heck, I didn’t even wear eyeliner today. I feel no shame! 🙂
Oh, I’ve been so lazy lately that I haven’t even bothered to smudge a single color on my entire lid… with my fingers. HAHA! I’ll have to at least upgrade to *your* lazy girl routine. 🙂

Yes lazy is an understatement these days. I think I’ve lost my makeup mojo. Either that or it’s just to damn humid to want to put anything on my face. My go to for “lazy” days is the Stila Soul Palette. Kitten all over the lid, Individual in the crease and Substance on the outer corner. Done.
Lol. I guess I’m lazy, because this is usually how I do my shadows. Like 90% of the time. Unless I just use one color. I guess that makes me super lazy.
I have three lazy routines:
1) Shimmery light on the lid; mid-tone in the crease; browbone highlight.
2) Darker shade on lid and smudged under lower lashline; mid-tone in crease; browbone highlight (sort of a lazy, daytime smokey eye, I guess).
3) A medium shimmery nude all over with a colored eyeliner. (My super-lazy eye look.)

LOL this is exactly what I’ve been doing for work! I’m always rushing in the mornings and never really have time for complicated eye looks so I’ve just been popping a shadow stick on my lids, adding a transition brown into my crease, a little deep brown in the outer corner and done. So easy!
Makeup Geek Vanilla eyeshadows all over, LORAC Taupe eyeshadows in the crease, and a tiny bit of a sheer shimmery Ivory on the center of the lid and inner eye. Lazy and polished! I’ve been using Clinique Skinny Stick eyeliner in Olive-Tini to do a winged look.
By Terry’s Ombré Blackstar in Bronze Moon and Zoeva’s crease brush are my current lazy eye duo, and then I tight line with Marc Jacob’s Rococa. It’s like ice cream sandwich magic!
Usually I am lazy, so when I can do with minimalist looks, I just go for a cat eye or something similar and then mascara; however, when I feel a bit more fancy I go for an eye look quite similar to the one that you shared! xx Aditi

I totally understand Karen! I feel your pain. Yesterday all I wore was mascara and a lippie. I just don’t have the energy or the inclination to do a full face. I just ordered some stuff from Sephoria – maybe that will help!!! I must admit, I always do easy, lazy shadow….. almost always. It takes me forever! I just don’t blend, blend, blend like the girls on youtube.com. I can’t see using 8 shadows to do an eye look. That’s just me – when I can use three or four to get the look achieved.
You know thought Ms. Karen – you’re blessed however because your skin glows — and you always look gorgeous in your pictures – it doesn’t matter what you have on!!!
