“Hello from Tokyo!” says my tote bag.
Um…I wish I was saying hello to you from Tokyo. Instead, I’m waving to you over the interwebz from my cluttered hallway while holding this Shiseido Hello Toyko tote.
The cute characters in the print remind me of those gummy candies at the Asian store.
Ooh! — what if the tote came with peach gummy rings!? That would be awesome.
It’s an online exclusive gift-with-purchase available now on the Shiseido website, and you get it, along with a skin care sampler set with extra big sample sizes, with any $75 purchase (excluding gift sets).
There are four skin care sets to choose from, too (but only the one tote). There’s one set for fine lines, another for brightening, one for fading dark spots, and a set for clear skin.
Most of Shiseido’s products are available on their website, so there’s a lot to choose from. One thing I use and love is their Ibuki Quick Fix Mist ($25). It’s a setting spray to keep greasy skin in check.
I also love their face and body sunscreen — the one in the blue bottle. It’s lightweight, isn’t sticky, and it photographs well.
I think their lash curler is pretty good, too.
I’m actually testing a few new Shiseido products right now. I’m using their Synchro Skin Foundation ($45), which is an oil-free foundation with sunscreen and a pump applicator, and I’m using the darkest shade available, Golden Sand 5.
I put a little on my face this morning to see how it sits on the skin, and it feels and looks lightweight, which is what I’m into these days.
I’m also trying the Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother ($23), which I wear on my cheeks.
Oh! — bourgie moment. The famous Shiseido Facial Cotton. This huge pack of 165 sheets is $10, which is expensive for a bunch of disposable cotton pads, but I’ve been dying to try them because they’re supposed to be supernaturally soft and moisturizing, too.
Are they necessary? Probably not… But I might change my tune if they’re good. 🙂

Ah! A lot of the best things come from Japan… Ridiculously good skin care and make-up brushes, for example. I have to admit with some regret that since I bought some Kumano brushes, I don’t really reach for the Chanel brushes any more. Like… at all. But with the revamped Chanel ones coming out, who knows. Maybe I’ll change my opinion. 🙂 That said, I once tried a Shiseido foundation which was supposed to be really light (and it was) – the Sheer and Perfect Foundation. However I found it to be extremely drying, so after a day of testing it out, I never tried it again. :-/

I love the Shiseido sunscreen my husband brings back from his Tokyo business trips for me. It’s got the lightest beige tint to it. Not that faint blue tint a lot of sunscreens have. It’s also lightweight and absorbs quickly. I can put gobs on and my skin still looks great. Wish the FDA would approve more sunscreen ingredients, especially UVA filters. These ingredients are being used safely for years in Europe and Asia, but they’re not safe to be used here in the US? The lack of logic defies me.
I really don’t get the tote and makeup bag GWP things, I have so many already and I just throw them out. Even though this one is especially cute.
Those Shisedo cotton pads are TOTALLY worth it! I cut them in half and they never shed on me!
