When you think of traditional holiday makeup, what comes to mind? For me it’s rich red lips. I picture them at dreamy candlelit Christmas parties with lots of little black dresses and crystal glasses filled with bubbly champagne.
I think there’s just something right about the look. A red lip demands attention, but at the same time still looks sophisticated enough for semi-formal holiday party attire.
So will any red suffice? This year I’ve been all about glossy tomato red lips, and my current holiday combo features NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Foridden Red beneath NARS Lip Gloss in Greek Holiday.

VOTE: CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in a deep red, slightly shimmery shade mixed with a hint of the nude shade (I don’t remember the names) to temper it out. I don’t use lip liner with these since they provide enough coverage for me. I’m thinking about trying out CoverGirl’s new Outlast lip color that looks like a marker. I’m going to check the reviews right now!
vote: NARS jungle red liner with MAC ruby woo on top for a BRIGHT blue-red… to make it super flashy you can add a layer of MAC dazzleglass creme in amorous!
for a deeper, blood-red, MAC brick liner with NARS lip stain gloss in indian red (so buttery when it goes on), paired with NARS moon fleet gloss.

Great color on you. On the occasions I wear red, I pull out Nars Diablo. I usually wear it applied sheery, but I know I can vamp it up. It complements my golden-olive coloring. It’s red & slightly glossy, yet still manages to look natural (as natural as red can be on me).

That’s super bold and pretty on you. Intense reds are a little out of my comfort zone so I use the combo above, which I feel is wearable enough for me, but still pretty red if I layer the lip glaze on. I was inspired by your Benefit Gilded under Mac Russian Red post 🙂

Both MAC Lady Bug (Lustre) and Medusa’s Makeup Lipgloss in Bite Me have been rocking my world lately. I like that Lady Bug is warm and gloss and creamy. It really brings some warmth to my skin tone. I like Bite Me because it is a cool blue based red and it has a bit of gold shimmer it in to bring a little of bling.
The concoction you have is hot and smoking! I am still lemming to get Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon though.

I think red lips are chic and ultra feminine like dita von teese. However am usually a bright eyeshadow and blush and nude lip kinda girl.

That and a neutral eye is easy peasy!
I like the see red look on other but I personally would just leave my lips alone because I will be doing a lot of eating!

Hi Karen! If you can believe,today I’m wearing red on my lips. I’ve always said that I don’t look at my best with red lips but I had to test the Max Factor Lipfinity Colour&Gloss in Radiant Red and I’m trying to get use to it. My lips are very small and I think this red lipstick is making them even smaller….so…do you have any advice?:) My friends said that they even like my red lips and it’s a gorgeous chance….but I still doubt the color 😀

I just wore this out for my anniversary with shimmery champagne lids and a cat-eye via Lorac Front of the Line liner! For super-wattage, I like to top it with Chanel Goldlights glossimer!
That looks AMAZING! One of my New Year’s resolution is to wear more red lipstick. This combo will have to be added to my rotation!
