My mid-week book report
Last night I finally finished the book I’ve been reading, Before Ever After, by Samantha Sotto.
It sat on my Kindle for a few weeks before I got around to it, and then when I started reading it a few weeks back, it seemed a little slow. Every night I’d pick it up and fall asleep within a few pages, LOL!
Not that it’s boring at all… Just a little slow.
10-second summary: after a series of supernatural events, a widow suspects that her dead husband may, in fact, be alive, and she embarks upon a trip to learn the truth.
It’s one of those stories that jumps around in time and starts out a little confusing, but it gets clearer (and better, I think) over time.
I liked it…but I probably won’t be reading it a second time.
Now the fun part — hunting for a new book! 🙂 Any recomendations?

I read a book awhile back, The Night Circus (I think), where it jumped around in time too. It was a little confusing at first, because I wasn’t paying much attention to the dates under the chapters- but it was a good book.

Books I would recommend are: The Rook by Daniel O’Malley, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, or The informationist by Taylor Stevens, all of which are fabulous thriller/mysteries.

Yes, please do. I think I mentioned that I read The Hypnotist and, while it was good, it really bothered me. I probably should have grabbed something quick and fun to cleanse my palette, but didn’t. Now is the time! 🙂
Okay…quick and fun. How about The Long Way Home, by Karen McQuestion? It’s a pleasant, easy chick-lit book I read it a while back. Kinda predictable, but it could be a great palette cleanser.

Have you read A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness? It’s like Twilight for adults. My sister in law turned me onto it and it’s pretty good. I finished the first book and am almost done the second. Plus, they are pretty substantial reads.
