I saw this glass at a local gift shop and nearly short circuited in the middle of the store!
If you know, you know.
So, I know I’ve been quiet this week. Beyond the usual last-minute Christmas stuff that one deals with at this time (wrapping, gift hunting, card writing and feeding all the humans in your immediate orbit because everyone is so hungry ALL THE TIME), I’ve also been fighting a cold and dealing with lots of paperwork because, drumroll please, I’m starting a new job in January.
*Insert happy dance here.*
Seriously, the relief of having a steady gig is the best Christmas present ever!
I’ll be working at a college doing a mix of marketing, editing, writing and administrative duties, which include interacting with students and professors (I almost wrote “purr-fessors,” ha). I’ll get to work with the public, which I think takes advantage of social skills I’ve always had but haven’t really used since I’ve been freelance writing from home. Anywho, it’s close to Connor’s school, the hours are great for a working mom, and the benefits are insanely good.
THE BENEFITS, omg. Retirement! Healthcare coverage! Union membership! Paid time off!
I almost cried when I read about them, for real.
Side note, you know you’ve crossed a bridge when benefits excite you. LOL!
Anywho, I can safely say — I’m really, really happy. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to say that, but I am.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, ha ha ha. 🙂
All this rambling to lead up to today’s lip of the day!

It’s a vivid yellow pink that reads more as a bright red on my lips, Laura Mercier Louise, another beauty from her twist-up line of soft matte lip pencils.
I think it’s a fun and festive color. Give it a swatch if you happen to be at a Laura Mercier counter.
Before I head out, I have to share this song with you because it’s been stuck in my head all week long. It’s “Black and Gold” by Sam Sparro, and the senior competitive dance team at Connor’s studio is dancing to it.
Love it
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Are ya done with all your holiday shopping and wrapping?

I’m so happy for you. Congratulations 🎉.
I’m done shopping but haven’t wrapped a thing!
Thank you, Linda! Congrats on finishing your shopping. 😀
Congratulations on your new job!! I agree, the older we are, the better those benefits look, too! I would think working at a college would be an interesting job.
I hope it will be. I was on campus the other day to do some paperwork (there’s a lot, LOL), and even though it was finals, it was still nice to see and be around students.
You’re right about grammar, but the most popular terms being used incorrectly are BRING and BROUGHT used for TAKE and TOOK. It’s completely changed recently and makes me cringe but I doubt if it’ll ever be used properly again!
Congrats on the new job; hang in there!
L
Thank you!
Congratulations!!!! I’m so, so happy you got the job. And with great benefits; yes, it’s such an ‘adult’ thing to get excited about.😄
Isn’t it, though? Who knew it could be so thrilling. I can even get Rosie pet insurance if I want!
Yay for a new job! That is the best Christmas present.
Thanks, Liz! It’s a wonderful present, for sure. Happy holidays!
Congratulations to you Karen!! That’s wonderful about your new job. I think working at a college is awesome. I have something else I have to get for my husband, and then I’m done shopping. Happy Holidays to you and yours!!
Thank you, Sherry! Happy holidays. 🙂
What a great Christmas present. I worked for a college a long time ago and it was a great place to work. Never had such great benefits before or after that job.
Thank you, Jan!
Wonderful news about your new job. I think you will enjoy the social atmosphere of being amongst people. Working at a college with great benefits is something you deserve! Wishing you and your beautiful family a happy festive season and you can now relax knowing you have a new job waiting for you. x
I think I’ll enjoy the change, too. It’ll be nice to be on a campus again!
Glad to hear you got the job and benefits you wanted!
Thank you, CL!
Congratulations, Karen!!! That’s wonderful news and I’m so happy for you. We don’t take good benefits for granted around here, no way.
Thank you, Laura!
Omg who let those cups go to print?! Nobody caught that?!
Congrats on the job Karen! Benefits are very exciting, for real. Since college, I’ve only ever taken jobs that provided health insurance because it is just so expensive! The job I recently started in February is at our local college actually. It’s super fun to be around the students, and I love my benefits and the 10ish weeks I get off in the summer! I’m sure you’ll love your new job!
Congrats on the new work gig!!
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy new year!
Of to Japan today.
Congrats on the job!!! I understand about the benefits too!! In this day and age, good benefits are just as important as the salary. Happy for you! have a great week!!
