First things first, I’m not mad at the newly reformulated Velvet Teddy Maximal Lipstick by MAC. I know!
I thought I’d be grumpy about it after taking Sweet Deal for a spin last week and feeling underwhelmed by the experience, but the wear time on Velvet Teddy 2.0 is almost as good as the original, and it’s less drying on my lips.
If Velvet Teddy is a frequent flyer in your makeup rotation, don’t worry. This new version does alright.
Secondly, I totally forgot to mention the eclipse when I was writing the Monday Poll yesterday morning. I didn’t remember it until I saw a couple of telescopes and various eclipse-related accoutrements on campus.

I was oddly thrilled by the low-tech things, including the shadows created by the colander and by the eclipse glasses.

Did you catch it at all yesterday? I hope you did because even though we didn’t get totality here in Northern California, it was still very cool.
Last but not least, a totally random question. What’s for lunch today? I’m mostly asking on behalf of my tum. LOL!
I’ve been coming home for lunch lately, and to save time, I usually set aside some leftovers or make a sandwich the night before so I can just walk through the door and gobble something down. I didn’t do that last night, though, so I have no lunch plans yet. I need some inspo!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

It was cloudy here yesterday so I wasn’t able to see the eclipse at all, so disappointing. I just looked at pics online and it’s not quite the same. I love your outfit! That tan striped shirt is so cute. I am having a salad with shrimp. Aldi had frozen shrimp rings on clearance a couple weeks ago so I bought a few to put on bagged salads for protein. Yesterday I got fast food so I need to reign it in a bit as far as eating healthier! I am going to go for a 1/2 hour walk on campus today too after I eat. Happy Tuesday! Quick deal of the day note, Target has 40% off rugs today only if you need any! I got a couple small ones for the kitchen and doorway.
Luckily, I was not far from the “totality path”. But…I was far enough to not want to take the drive. See, I’m near Boston and the drive to upper VT or NH would have been three hours. But with all the traffic, it was expected to be far longer! So, I settled for 92-96% totality from my driveway. It was a sunny day but when max totality hit, it got dim in a weird way. It looked like the sky was deep gray, like a thunderstorm was coming. I really wish I had planned in advance to take the drive and stay somewhere overnight like my sister-in-law did. Early this year, she booked a Vrbo in NH for the event and thought it was so wonderful. It’s a shame that some people weren’t that interested in the eclipse. My next door neighbor commented on Facebook that it was stupid to even waste the time to care. I find astronomy fascinating! This was truly a magnificent event and I’m glad to have experienced it with my children.
Yes, for the first time in my life, I was living in the totality zone. The clouds made it a touch-and-go situation, but they cleared just enough for me to see the full eclipse. Unfortunately a neighbor just had to let out an incredibly loud whistle at the same time. I had my phone open to the Merlin app, and it identified his whistle as the call of a cedar waxwing! So that app’s not infallible. I did notice that there were groups of birds (probably starlings) swooping around like they were going to roost somewhere for the night. The full eclipse wasn’t as dark as I would have thought – maybe because of light bouncing off the clouds, and the lights down here on Earth. You could feel it cool down a little during totality. It was so cool to see it through my Celestron cardboard glasses. I could see what I think was Venus to the lower right of the sun. I just wish my mother could have held on long enough to see the eclipse. I had mentioned it to her last summer, as something she should try to hand on to see. 90 years old, and she never got to see a total eclipse of the sun.
Sorry that your mother could not witness this event. In 20122, my father also passed at 90. He was a fan of astronomy so I’m sure he would have been enjoying the eclipse.
Oh, lunch today was air fryer mini tater tots (only 5 of them) and some air fryer hash browns. I got a cheap, small air fryer a few months ago, and have been trying different things in it. The loose hash browns didn’t come out too good, but that might have been because they were a store brand.
I work in Cleveland, OH, so I was in the path of totality. A few of us had to work yesterday, so we had a little watch party on the roof of our building. I’ve seen two partial eclipses, but never a total. It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! At totality you could hear what sounded like everyone in the entire city screaming in excitement. I’m so glad that I got to experience it!
I live in Indiana, and we live about an hour north of totality. I would not have traveled, but my 11 year old was absolutely obsessed with being in the path of totality.
So we went to my best friends house, who was right in the path. It was sunny, and it was totally awesome. It got completely dark like night.. It was about the same level of light that the moon would give off normally. Birds did get quiet. it lasted a few minutes, and then just a tiny little bit of sun started making it light again.
While I wouldn’t have gone myself, I’m actually glad my son wanted to go so badly. My husband took off work, and it took us an hour and 20 minutes to get down there and 3 1/2 hours to get home. Lol. So the traffic was super rough, but we did think it was worth it. I’ve seen a partial eclipse before, and it was nothing compared to how cool the total eclipse was.
