I have finally — FINALLY — caught up on my magazine reading, yay!
It’s the little things, ya know?
Anyway, among other things, this means that I found some new sources of makeup inspiration, like this blue beauty up at the top…
Hoh! — I don’t even know where to start. Like, I love how the blue wraps around her entire eye, and how the shades shift from light to dark in a gradient, but what I REALLY love is how her brow bone highlight is completely ??? bananas.
See how it’s in the center of her brow and all metallic and glittery? And, most importantly, how it moves up into the brow hairs?
That is some cray-cray stuff! I can’t wait to try it.
Also, the stark white (or maybe it’s light blue?) on her lower water line and how the white drifts into the roots of her lower lashes? It’s absolutely beautiful.
I’m also really into this glossy, glittery purple lid look…
OK, it’s not for everyone; I get it. I mean, I wouldn’t up to Target wearing this, but I think it would be fun to try. The artist in the magazine recommended using lip gloss on the lids instead of an eye gloss.
Spring needs to get here, ASAP. That’s all I can say.
Ooh! Now look at this one…
Hello, bright orange. 🙂 This looks takes a warm orange shadow — almost an orange red — from the lash line all the way up to the brow bone, and I can’t tell if the finish is matte or satin.
Whatever it is…I love it. I love the simplicity. Eye makeup doesn’t have to involve 15 different shadows, ya know?
Next up, metallic silver.
Look at how this is placed! Honestly, I don’t know if I’d be able to pull this off… It looks kinda hard.
It’s mostly concentrated along the lash lines and the inner part of her lids, and then it fades out as it moves across her lids to the outer corner.
That’s really cool! I also like how the artist left the silver sitting near the roots of the model’s upper lashes.
This next one reminds me of Grace Jones in the ’80s.
That purple, and the wings and the cheek bones that could cut glass, and the glossy magenta lip? That’s just fierce.
I may or may not end up trying to recreate this one because I’ve seen this look so many times before… but I sure like looking at it.
And here are a few looks I bookmarked, not because I plan to try them (although I might), but because they just looked fun and crazy (not that any of the ones above are crazy, haha!), like this light blue, which starts from just above the crease and goes all the way up into the brow.
The lid is bare — well, bare except for the thinnest orange (it might be bronze) liner above the upper lashes.
And then there’s this craziness take on classic cat liner…
It’s deep red instead of black, and the bulk of the liner is at the bottom lash line, all messy as hell.
This would probably end up making me look like a zombie (a fashionable zombie), but I think I might try it anyway.
Lastly, this simple blue dot on the outer corner.
How does one get that circle perfectly round? And do you place dots on both sides?? And do the dots have to be perfectly even and uniformly sized??
Important questions. 🙂
This is one of those things that I think looks easy but is probably extremely hard.
I can’t wait to try some of these looks! They’re going to be cray, but yay! Makeup is an adventure.

I would like to try that first, really intense blue one with white, too.
And I would definitely wear the second look to Target, but I’d go for a purple that leaned more toward blue — it would look better on me personally. Need some clear MAC or Bobbie Brown lip gloss, I think.
I think the orange eyes are matte. The orange looks like it might have come from the Pastel Goth palette.
I’ve done silver eye looks, but nothing quite like that fourth look. I usually use NARS Eye Paint in Interstellar, or a very creamy, bright powder eyeshadow in bright silver (Coloured Raine makes a good one). I think this was done with pigments + glitter, either with a fixing spray or a glitter glue. I think it would be easier to do it on another person than on yourself.
I love the fifth look, but there is so much going on there, it would take me forever. I would love to try doing the eyes and lips, but doubt I could make my chubby cheeks look anything like that without hours of contouring layers.
I would like to try something like the sixth look, but maybe with a shimmery green instead of a pastel blue.
The lower-lid cat-eye is totally rad. I might try that, but not in red. Blue, green, or grey for me.
And that last look has to be made with some kind of template. If I was going to try it, I would try to find some very wide Scotch tape, and cut an exact circle out of it and place it very carefully on a closed eye. Or paint something like NuSkin around the area I want to fill in. Then fill in the space with something like Inglot’s gel eyeliner — they have some colors like this (a NARS Eye Paint might also work, I think) while the eye is closed and stays closed until the product is completely set, then remove the tape. This one, though, I think would be very hard to do on yourself. Less hard to do on someone else. Eye shape probably really matters here, too. And trying to do both eyes exactly the same? Few faces are that symmetrical. Either do just one, or do the second one in a different color, and a different size circle, or a different shape altogether.
It’s wonderful to see inspiration beyond the “natural” and “no-makeup” looks that have been so popular in recent years. Makeup can be fun, and these looks certainly are!

What magazines do you read that have these unique looks in them? Not my style, but still interesting as editorial work.
I think the Purple/Yellow or Gold would be good. Time to bust out NARS Kauai again! I still need that 🙁
I did a full blue eye yesterday. Not for going out obviously, but I surprisingly liked it. My husband asked repeatedly when I was foing to wash it off though, so I don’t think he appreciated the artistic expression.

These are great pictures! My faves are the blue eye, the purple and yellow eye, and the red cat eye liner.
