The title pretty much says it all. Makeup often gets talked about for the visual transformation; I think there’s so much more to it, though. I know that when I’m not feeling all that great (like I was when I woke up this morning…been a long few weeks!), putting a little bit of color on makes all the difference with my attitude.

I’m wearing what’s basically my makeup equivalent of comfort food in this look, which means lots of MAC.
How are you doing today? Now that I feel and look put together, I feel like I can finally get some stuff done.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m doing okay today despite being exhausted by getting up four times in the night to pee. I had too much coffee yesterday and then I drank water right before bed, not sure what I was thinking.
I’m so with you on the makeup.
It is an essential daily activity for me or I start on this downward mental slide. Or maybe I start on a downward mental slide and not putting on make up is my clue that things are starting to go south.
I feel so much better when I’ve at least put a base layer of spackle and a swipe of lipstick on.
Also, the nails, I finally got a mani/pedi last week after four months (not sure what I was thinking) and I feel like I could conquer the world!
Girlfriend, the nails are key. Mine have been terrible for the last month. I finally cut them this morning; I’m going to paint tonight, and I already know that will make me feel so much better.
It’s incredible how big the mental impact beauty TLC can make. I also waxed my upper lip this morning for the first time since I don’t know when, and I feel like a completely different person.
When I don’t wear makeup and catch myself in the mirror (like this week while I’ve had Covid), it really brings my mood down. When I’ve put some on, I feel a pat on the back when I look in the mirror and like I do belong to the human race after all!
I hope you feel better soon, Sarah! Take care of yourself.
I have seen photos of myself my husband has taken without makeup and I honestly don’t look much different, but I just feel more put together when I wear it, even if neutral and nude shades that I prefer for day to day. You look beautiful however you wear it though, and love your primers on what colors you are using.
Thanks, Brigid. I definitely feel better when I do a little something, even if it’s just styling my hair a little bit and putting on some gloss.
Hope you’re having a great week so far.
Same! Also: reading your blog always makes me feel better. Whenever I feel down, I know where to go! My mood is better almost immediately. Cats and makeup! How much better can it get? Btw: stripes definitely suit you well! 💋
I totally agree. Makeup makes me feel so much better, even just a few basics does it for me.
Love the top. Where’s it from?
Hi, Linda! It’s by Banana Republic, and it’s from this season so you can still buy it. I also have it in black and white. The cotton is super soft and I love the cut.
I feel absolutely the same way. Somehow the day doesn’t properly start until I have at least some makeup ion, which is why I wear it almost every day. It just makes me happy and feel accomplished.
