In theory, Revlon Youth FX Fill + Blur Concealer should totally work for me. It’s a smoothing liquid under-eye concealer for mature skin, and, well, I’m 42, got some fine line action, killer under-eye circles, dry skin, and I’m usually tired as hell.
Buuut the spongy applicator is a frickin’ mess to use! The concealer gets stuck in the sponge, and there’s no easy way to clean it. Oh, and then when I put the cap back on, the stuff gets all over the inside, and the cap is clear, so it gets all crusty while it mocks my desperate need for order in this chaotic world…
I mean, the concealer is pretty good for the price. It’s only $13.99, but WHAT A TERRIBLE OUTFIT. Total packaging fail.
The formula is like MAC Select Moisturecover, which was one of the first things I ever reviewed on MBB. Moisturecover is MAC’s liquid concealer for dry skin. Both are lightweight, moisturizing and medium coverage, but Revlon Youth FX + Blur does a little more brightening in the under-eye area.
Too bad the applicator ruins it for me, and it’s not just the spongy tip. It comes in a click pen, like Touche Éclat, which should be a good thing, but this one always dispenses too much, so the liquid ends up pooling in my fine lines to make them even more obvious.
I will say that I like the formula. I like how smooth my skin looks when I wear this, even if the color, and the one I use is called Medium Dark (which is the second darkest shade, by the way), is about three steps too light for me.
Basically, I’m just not that into it, man. [sigh] Guess I’m still on the hunt for that divine drugstore concealer. Let me know if you have one to recommend.

I have the same beef with the Maybelline Eraser. Lovely formula, but the sponge applicator is just not working for me.
Right? Sometimes all you need is a good old fashion doe foot, ya know?
I really haven’t found a great drugstore concealer yet either! Also I’m with you on hating that type of applicator, what’s wrong with a tube?!

I’m a germophob- so a sponge applicator sounds already very unhygienic to me. And too much product isn’t really helpful on my old tired eyes either! The older I get, the more I realize: less is more (at least under my eyes- and my forehead too lol).

Wearing a lot of concealer underneath my eyes doesn’t work for me, either. In that area less is more! That’s why I prefer high-pigment ones where you only have to use very little. What are your current fave under eye concealers, by the way?
Oh, gosh, I started to get itchy as soon as I saw the applicator and was in full blown horror after reading your post. Not truly, but the crusty cap is quite awful. HAHA! The search continues but you enjoy trying new things, so that’s sort of a bonus. 🙂
Yes! I’m on a hunt to find a decent drugstore under eye concealer. Hopefully it exists! Which one are you using these days?
Now that I type this, I’m sure to wake up like a raccoon, but I’m pretty fortunate with my under eye area (not being dark or puffy). Luckily I’m a good sleeper. 🙂 I do have Smashbox Photo Op under eye brightener that I’ll use occasionally. 99% of the time, that area is bare, though. I don’t even really put BB cream there. I think any product highlights the old experience lines!
You’re so lucky that you can get away without wearing anything! Last time I was able to get away without wearing concealer was in college about a billion years ago. 🙂 You’re right, putting product on the under eye area can highlight lines; it’s a delicate balance to find something that covers without looking heavy. #storyofmylife

Connor is sick today so I’m writing you from my couch at the moment. She’s next to me hugging her stuffed puppy and we’re watching Planet Earth on Netflix together. Poor thing has a bad virus that keeps hanging out, and when she’s not feeling well she gets super clingy and won’t let me out of her sight.
Too bad about the packaging! That would be a turn off for me as well. I’m using L’Oreal true match right now and it’s been working pretty well.

Ooh, I’m liking the packing for True Match comes in a doe foot. What shade do you wear and do you set it with powder?
The color on the bottom of the tube says “medium/deep W 6-7-8”. Mine has a brush applicator, but it works for me. I just apply and blend with my finger or sponge. I don’t set it with powder, but that may help it last longer.
I had heard good things about Maybelline Instant Age Rewind, but the color was too light for my skin. I find I get a better color match with L’oreal.
Hi Karen, i’ve been using L’Oreal’s True Match concealer in W 4-5 forever. I’m Asian and it matches my skin perfectly. Also Maybelline’s Age Rewind concealer in Medium is great too. I love the foam applicator, not messy at all.
