It’s all about classic smokey grays in the new Smoked Cocoa Eye Shadow X 4 quad from the MAC RiRi Hearts collection for fall.
If it weren’t for the packaging, I’d swear this palette was by Bobbi Brown!
RiRi Hearts MAC: Smoked Cocoa Eye Shadow X 4
- Houses four powder eyeshadows — a frosty whitish beige, a matte light gray, a sheer blackish gray with flecks of silver glitter and an uber-sheer matte blackish gray
- Fallout doesn’t appear as intense as it does in the Her Cocoa quad, although I find myself wanting more oomph from the two darkest colors, which are very, very sheer, and I have to really pile it on to get a good smokey effect on my NC42 skin.
- I tried wearing Smoked Cocoa on its own, but it looked odd without a transitional color… I think you really need a mid-toned brown like Cork, Wedge or Soft Brown to make it work.
I think this one’s more for the die-hard RiRi fans, since it’s fairly easy to dupe. Still pretty, though, if you don’t mind layering and adding in a brown eyeshadow (or two).

I heard this palette wasn’t the most pigmented, but these aren’t the sort of shades I typically go for anyway. I am definitely getting the other quad in this collection.

Really depends on what you want. Some people like sheer shadows, so for them, it’s worth it.
I’m afraid these quads might be a letdown 🙁
I heard the quality of these quads isn’t the same as MAC’s permanent line. Someone suggested you’d be better off buying four similar colors from the permanent line, is that true?
I’m madly, insanely in love with taupe eyeshadows, but 1)I’m not buying MAC, and 2) I prefer more pigment.
They look like beautiful neutrals, though; just the thing to wear with bold lips.
Too sheer for me! I’m eyeing the warmer palette from this collection. Prefer golds and browns to greys and taupes.
Oh too bad about the sheerness coz it’s a nice color combo. Btw, thank you Karen for including CDN prices, it’s very convenient. 🙂
