The Four Universally Flattering Shades in the $15 Sephora Mini Ultra Shine Gloss Set Pack a Seriously Shiny Punch

Sephora calls the four petite pink and nude shades in their $15 Mini Ultra Shine Gloss Set universally flattering.

I call ’em perfect for purses and sunglasses, on account of their diminutive stature (0.1 ounces each), their easy, breezy sheer-to-medium coverage and a finish that’s brighter than the sun!

These feel thicker and stickier to me than the glosses in Sephora’s Gloss Lab, and I think the stickiness helps them last a little longer. I get about four hours of wear time out of these, which also happen to be quite moisturizing, versus 2-3 hours for the Gloss Labs (Gloss Labs?).

I’m not sure how/where Sephora came up with the strong brown sugar and plastic scent and flavor for these (maybe Toys R’ Us?), but it’s fair to say that it took me some time to get used to…

Not that it makes me nauseous or anything, but I wouldn’t call it “my favorite.” At least it fades after a few minutes…

Notwithstanding the funky flavor and scent of the glosses inside, I like this set, and I know I’ll be able to wear the colors with a bunch of different eye looks.

Can I give you a Lyft?

I love the city, but I’d love it more if they could remove about half the cars. It’s such a pain to drive and find parking, especially in the rain.

Sometimes, like if I have more than one stop to make and it’s anywhere between the hours of 7-9 a.m. or 3-6 p.m., it can be quicker and a whole lot easier to leave my car parked in a lot, and then walk or take a cab or public transportation to get around.

So yesterday, I was hoofin’ it along the Embarcadero, and a car with a pink mustache drove by…

Wha?

That’s sort of the uniform of a new ride sharing program in SF called Lyft (there’s also another one called SideCar).

Riders use smartphone apps to find rides, like on-demand carpooling, and it’s generally cheaper than taking a taxi.

But the person who picks you up is just a regular person with a car — not a professional cabbie or driver.

The person picks you up, you go on your merry way, and when the ride’s done, you pay a suggested “donation” (roughly around $10 or so) to the driver via credit card. Later, you can rate the driver, and the driver can rate you as well.

Safety is a major concern, and the companies stress their efforts in that regard. Lots of insurance, vehicle inspections and background checks.

There’s something very San Francisco about it…but things like this can actually work here. It reminds me of the old days on craigslist when it wasn’t completely scary.

I haven’t tried it myself, but it sounds interesting, especially in a place like SF, where it can be easier to find a leprechaun than a cab.

Speaking for myself, I probably wouldn’t use this if I were alone… I don’t know, there are some crazy-@ss folks out there, and if I’ve learned anything from Lifetime movies, it’s that the really nutty ones are good at pretending to be normal.
