1. A softly shimmering lid.
For a while I was all about mattes because I like how they create an illusion of a deeper crease, but now I love softly shining lids. I think it’s casually chic, which is the vibe I go for these days. By the way, Chanel’s quads are great for this type of shimmering lid look! Today I’m wearing an old school fave, Codes Subtils, which unfortunately is no longer available (boo), but you can get a similar look with any of Chanel’s shimmery quads, like Tisse Rivoli.
2. Blurred lines.
Give me all the smudgy, please. No crisp edges here — too harsh! A cat eye with a blurry edge and a flick that softly fades into its end point? That’s all I want at the moment. Anywho, lately I’ve been getting this by wetting a flat eyeliner brush with setting spray, then loading it with a dark brown, navy, plum or khaki eyeshadow.

3. As much natural skin peeking through as possible.
A dollop of Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (Wheat) applied all over works wonders. Then, I dab Hourglass Retouching Fluid Concealer (Sand) underneath my eyes, around my mouth and on my cheeks, and then I blend-blend-blend. I set both with the sheerest amount of MAC MSF Powder (Medium Golden). If I wear too much base it just looks heavy and fake, so I try to get away with as little as possible these days!
4. A soft, semi-sheer matte lip color in a bright pink or coral.
Just like the shimmering lid, I feel like this lip look is casually chic. I also like how the matte finish contrasts with the shimmery lid and the natural, glowing skin.
5. Leaving the lower lash line alone!
Dang, girl! I can’t believe there was a time when I’d pile on all the things along my lower lash line. Now I just leave it alone because the more I wear, the more it seems to draw attention to how tired I look and feel. LOL! For me, less has been best for the last year or so.
I think it’s really interesting to see one’s makeup taste evolve and change, don’t you? What type of makeup looks are you liking right now? Please let me know in the comments.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m doing sheer lately. A couple drops of MAC Studio Radiance mixed with a couple drops of Maruyama Farms Moringa Oil (from Hawaii, my go-to when I have eczema or acne breakouts). Bobbie Brown Lip Tint in Bare Pink and GXVE “Just a Girl” Eyeshadow Quad ‘Destiny’ (light shimmery gold with a hint of rose) on lids with a thin line of ‘Big Surprise’ as an upper lid liner. A swipe of mascara and that’s it!
Minimal seems to be my makeup style these days. Sunscreen to protect my skin. Maybe some powder to tone down the dewiness from the sunscreen. A thin smudgy brown liner. If my lids are red and irritated, a skin-toned shadow. Mascara. A sheer lipstick or tinted lip balm. That’s all I seem to have the energy for these days.
Love Rosie’s ear tufts. Nora had them, too. Nibbler does not. I just noticed Rosie’s notched ear. Was she a stray that got captured and spayed?
We have no idea! Her previous life is very much a mystery to us. We do suspect that she was raised with loving humans at one point in her life because she’s SO affectionate. She sleeps with me and El Hub every night, and now she’s gotten to the point where she needs to be in between us like a little baby, LOL! If we wake up early, then she goes to Connor’s room and sleeps with her in the early hours. Oh, and whenever there’s a lap available, she wants to be on it.
I also think her previous family fed her at the table because Rosie has very naughty table manners!
Rosie is truly a beauty!
Nothing too different going on in the makeup department over here. But I will mention 3 new to me products that I am enjoying.
1. Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint. A lot of products are available in this category right now but so far I’m really loving this! It evens out my skin tone. Works well over SPF. It doesn’t cling to dry patches and it has a nice natural finish (not too dewy). So far so good! I’m curious to see how long the bottle lasts because it is quite small.
2. Ilia liquid powder eye tint in Cork (matte finish). They extended this line and added matte shades. This light brown taupe shade is a nice everyday 1 and done color. It blends easily and seems to last pretty well. I already ordered Tannin, which is a deeper brown.
3. Rose, Inc. cream blush in Camellia. Rosy pink. So glad you introduced me to this line. Loving this blush right now!
I have yet to try either the Ilia matte tint or the Rose, Inc. cream blush, so thank you for both of those recommendations, Megan!
Rosie sends purrs your way. 🙂
I’ve always favored a matte or soft matte foundation finish and bright colors on my eyes, cheeks, and/or lips (and yes, I have done all 3 at the same time!), which puts me decidedly in the minority at this point in time. My main makeup evolution has occurred in the products I use-I stuck to drugstore brands as a teen, but I now shop Sephora and Ulta way more often than I shop drugstore-and in the fact that social media provides so many more places for me to find makeup inspiration!
I am so about leaving the lower lash line alone! It really is a game changer in looking younger/more awake etc.
I’m using a lot of Dr Hauschka colour correcting powder at the moment – it’s really great if you have redness. I swear by good old L’Oréal Double Extension waterproof mascara and Urban Decay Naked II palette because I love all the sparkle.
Bare skin, satin taupe on my lid, a bright lip color and a sharp winged liner is what I have been wearing for the last three years.
My lower lash line has always been left alone, I never liked how color there made me look, I felt it aged me by ten years.
