Eye Candy: 55 Easy Makeup Looks for Glam Lids and Luscious Lashes, by Linda Mason ($14.95)
Sometimes I get stuck in eye makeup ruts, and this book’s loaded with inspiration. There’s 55 eye looks. DUDE! That’s a lot.
Makeup Makeovers Beauty Bible: Expert Secrets for Stunning Transformations, by Robert Jones ($19.99)
This one is packed with lots of good, in-depth beauty information. Check out the section with makeup for different eye shapes.
Love, Lashes, and Lipstick: My Secrets for a Gorgeous, Happy Life, by Mally Roncal ($25)
Mally’s bubbly personality really comes across in the writing in this book, and I dig the cute illustrations.
Hello Kitty Nail Art, by Masako Kojima ($17.95)
Granted, I probably don’t have the skill to pull off most of these nail looks, but I want to! Because it’s Hello Kitty!
Beauty: The New Basics, by Rona Berg ($19.95)
I really like that the models in this book look like normal women of all ages and ethnicities.
Everything Eyes: Professional Techniques, Essential Tools, Gorgeous Makeup Looks, by Bobbi Brown ($14.95)
A whole chapter devoted to makeup for girls with glasses. Yes.

I actually hated that Bobbi Brown book. But I have Eye Candy and love it.
I have the Robert Jones book that you’d like to buy. It’s super basic but the chapter on looks for various eye shapes is helpful. I also have a Bobbi Brown book, Makeup Manual, that I enjoy. I’ve heard great things about Kevin Aucoin books, Face Forward & Making Faces, that I’d love to purchase. Sam Fine has a book that I’d also love to have. It didn’t get great reviews but he also has a DVD, which might be a better buy. But I’d prefer to read the book as opposed to watch a DVD.

“The New Basics” looks kinda AWESOME! Might have to look for that one! My favorite of all-time is Kevyn Aucoin’s “Making Faces”. I got it when I was 18 and that man introduced me to a whole world of products and techniques I didn’t know existed. I mean, in 1998, what the hell was “liquid illuminator”?! My mind was blown. And I was running to the store for gold lipgloss to pop my lips! Good memories! 🙂
I once gave a beauty Book to my sister on her birthday (completely without thinking about borrowing it – ahem) but I can’t remember the title.
In this corner of the world nothing! Not even a classic Bobbi Brown or Kevin Aucoin!

I would never actually buy books like these but if I see them lying around somewhere I definitely go through them.
I have and love Kevin Aucoin’s ‘Making Faces’. That man was truly amazing. I’ve checked a couple of Bobbi Brown’s books out of the library a few times and enjoyed them, too. I have a book by Robert Jones but enjoyed it less, not remembering why right now, but I like books with ideas more than books with ‘rules.’ Lots of people seem to like to make up lots of beauty ‘rules’ for older women, and I find it really annoying. We older women and our grey hair and wrinkles should just erase ourselves, disappear, please, so no one will have to look at or notice us, seems to be the idea — well, no thanks, not me, I want to have some fun! I break the ‘rules’ all the time and get plenty of compliments when I do, from makeup artists in stores, from checkers at my local co-op, from the women in their 80s and 90s that I help take care of and the young women I work with. I’ve been eyeing a couple of the same books you are, on amazon, but my budget is stretched a bit thin right now… if I buy a makeup book, I won’t be able to buy some new item of makeup that I’m eyeing! What a dilemma! So if you read some of these, I would love it if you would share what you liked most.
The 5 Minute Face, by Carmindy. I always loved watching the makeup transformations on What Not to Wear, because Carmindy made makeup seem so accessible and gave thorough yet easy application tips, and instructions. Plus her voice is so soothing; when I read this book, I could almost hear her reading it to me.

The last time I read a book like this one it was Sophia Loren’s “Women & Beauty” (very good for advice on life, not just fashion & beauty).
I haven’t been a huge fan of makeup books. I’m a magazine person when it comes to that or a blog person. I did love Kevin’s books though.
I have all of the Kevyn Aucoin books. IMO he will forever be the best makeup artist that ever was. He was teaching contouring before it was even a thing. Plus, the transformations he did are mind blowing. I also have that Hello Kitty nail art book! My brother gave it to me for Christmas. It may be far above my skill level, but the pictures are amazing 🙂
Oooh interesting books. I like the idea of makeup for girls with glasses. I wear glasses on my “lazy” days when I don’t put my contacts in and I usually go lazy with my makeup too.
My vote is for the Hello Kitty nail art book! How fun!
I’d like to pick up Kevyn Aucoin’s Making Faces. It seems to be a classic and everyone talks about it when makeup books come up.
I want to check some of these out. 🙂 I really think Urban Decay should come out with an eye makeup book for all the different looks you could do with all the naked palettes. I would definitely buy that!! 😉
I got the Mally book for Xmas. A fun read, with some good tips as well.
I have the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual and another book (forgot the name) but I want that Everything Eyes book too. I think I want Molly’s book as well. It looks so cute lol
