I had high hopes that Covergirl Queen Collection Eye Shadow Pot in Dazzle Q185 ($4.49) would be a respectable, dramatically less expensive dupe for MAC Mulch, but according the Dupe Alert 3000, “BEEP! Subject is a little too coppery red. BEEP-BOOP! Match negative.”
Oh, well.
That doesn’t stop Dazzle Q185 from being a beautiful shade in its own right. It packs plenty o’ pigment and looks even more intense layered with a reddish copper cream shadow. I really dig it with Laura Mercier Burnished Copper or Chanel’s New Moon.
I think it also goes well with colors that contain plummy and burgundy tones, like MAC Sable, Twinks and Sketch.
So there, stupid Dupe Alert 3000. Take that. 🙂

Hehe, the Dupe Alert 3000 that I have in my brain is quite bad, really. Often I’l think ‘Oh, that is exactly a dupe for X!’ and then when I look up swatches to compare I see that I was, at best, in the same colour family, LOL! This one is a pretty copper nonetheless 🙂
Oh, and do not bring your Dupe Alert 3000 to a drugstore.
I’m just sayin’. It’ll be chiming nonstop! 🙂
Sometimes it’s shocking the difference in price between drugstore dupes and department store stuff, though. Sometimes the dept store products are 10x as much! They have a lot of ground to make up for that in terms of quality.
You’re getting all of the Covergirl goodies lol. This looks nice too! I was just browsing the Queen collection yesterday in Target. I was so happy to finally find the bronzers! I think I’ll be grabbing the blush you posted earlier when I go back for one

Really pretty. Not yet in the mood for a fall smokey eye as my summer holiday is quickly approaching, but one to remember nonetheless.

Oh, Dupe Alert 3000, you’re so particular. 🙂 I like the look of coppers in general but they give me the same effect as watching a sad movie. Or, I guess, any movie. One of the boys was giving me a hard time at dinner asking “is there any movie you HAVEN’T cried during?” Um, probably not, smarty pants. HAHA!
OHMYGOSH. So, I started watching this movie on Netflix last night and I need to talk to someone about it. Have you seen The Machine? I’m about halfway through it (had to go to bed early because today was my long run) and sufficiently traumatized.
That’s a great shade! I’ve never seen the Queen collection up here in the Seattle area but I’ll keep my eyes open when I’m traveling!
