On a Saturday a few weeks ago El Hub and I went down to touristy Pier 39 in SF to walk around and have lunch, and we strolled into this shop called The Spice & Tea Exchange.
They carry about a million different loose teas and cooking spices. Really cool, lots of interesting scents, and the sales associates were very nice (they actually create many of the tea recipes themselves).
I brought home a couple of teas for me…
…and a packet of dried Super Duper Extra Strength catnip for Tabs. I wonder if it fires up cat ladies like it fires up cats, LOL!
There’s even a recipe for catnip cookies attached, which are supposed to be for cats…but I’m craving one for some reason.
I’m thinking about making them for Tabs this weekend, but I suspect he won’t share.
The gal at the shop said that catnip is also a good bedtime tea, which is perfect because I have chronic insomnia.
I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll let you know.
Have you ever had catnip in a tea or anything else?

I love tea! I haven’t tried catnip in my tea but I hope you will post if you try it. I also have chronic insomnia, I would love to know if it helps. 🙂
I’ve always found it interesting how catnip has the opposite effect on humans than it has on cats, calming instead of energizing. I think it may have been part of a blend in some bedtime tea I’ve had before, but tea doesn’t seem to ever help me when I’m going through an insomnia phase.
I don’t drink as much tea as I should! I can only do decaf because of my heart condition, so I keep decaf green and berry teas in my desk at work.
I love drinking tea, but I’m not sure that I would try catnip
Karen, hun, I dunno how much sleep you’ll get if you drink that and then climb into bed. Tabs just might come over and start pouncing your lips! 😛
Small story: When one of my cats was just a wee kitten, she’d pounce my face in my sleep. Catnip wasn’t even involved! A little hell-kitten, that one. She grew out of it, thankfully. Especially thankful given that the “wee kitten” is now a 15 lb. cat! XD
Do let us know if you make the cookies! I’m curious as to how Tabs will like it. Will he eat it? Roll on it? Prefer it with a side of gravy for dunking? Your CCL fan base needs to know!

I really have been dying to go to the Spice & Tea Exchange and I just found out that they have one near me in Boca Raton, FL. Otherwise – I knew there was one in Disney World haha. But that is about three hours away. Thanks for this post!
I love catnip tea. I make mine fresh though. It’s a mild sedative, it tastes kinda fresh and herby and you can throw some sweetener in it if you like.

So, does the catnip tea taste minty?
I’m uncertain. It was mixed in with mints and other herbs, so I didn’t know what the catnip itself tasted like, but the tea itself was yummy.
Mmm, that Citrus Breeze tea looks yummy. I haven’t tried Catnip as a tea…my hubby grows it to gift to our friends and family who have kitties and to attract kitties to our garden to repel some of the varmints! I will try this, as I have some bouts of insomnia periodically.
