This morning I jumped on the treadmill (it’s in a room on the second floor) and spotted this wild turkey on the roof ledge outside the window. Um, weird!
A bunch of them were chilling in the oak tree, too… Can you find all three?

I always thought turkeys were too fat to fly and just fluttered around like pigeons. I guess you learn something new every day!
I 2nd Trisha and Courtney’s comments. How’d they get up on the ledge and in the tree? They must be turkeys with super powers. Or maybe they know that Thanksgiving is right around the corner and picked up some new survival skills! 🙂
Yep, turkeys can indeed fly! My first thought: Mmmmmmm, Thanksgiving. Nom, nom. LOL! But wild turkey meat tastes nothing like Butterball store-bought turkey. Butterball is much better, IMO. Wild turkey is too gamey. Yuck.
The only I’ve ever had is the drink, and it was awful, LOL!
Yes, they fly! They’re obnoxious too. They would sit on the roof and gobble to torment my dogs. Every Autumn like clockwork. I’m sooo glad I moved into town.
They’re HUGE, too! When they’re standing upright they’re about waist high.
COOL! I found all 3! How awesome is it to spot turkey outside of your second floor home?!!?! LOL I just saw a turkey at the Oakland Real Food festival this weekend (a living one, lol) 🙂
It was kind of a trip. They usually stick close the ground; I think there might’ve been an animal on the hill below that scared them.

Too funny! Today I actually had a very similar experience. As I drove in the driveway I spotted a lone turkey hanging out around the door to my house. Because I’m goofy, I chased it around the outside of the house and into the backyard, just for fun. They look hilarious when they run. =p ‘Tis the season for turkey spotting I guess?!
Do they usually hang out by themselves in your neighborhood? In mine they’re always moving as a unit.
I’ve heard tell of a whole flock of them trotting along my street, down the driveway, and on to the backyard. But this was the first time I caught sight of one myself. I wonder if he/she was lost?
I grew up on a tree farm so I’m used to seeing these guys all the time. They’re the dumbest and most obnoxious birds ever. I almost hit on yesterday. Didn’t quite get the air as soon as he needs it to get over the car.
We dont have turkeys in Indiana. We do however get giant flocks of Canadian Geese which never leave no matter the season and they are mean as heck!
Karen, I will sooooo agree with you that Wild Turkey, the whiskey, is the worst!!!!! Blech!
